Saxophone player here for about 19 years now. Started when I was 11. It may be a little frustrating for some at first but that's normal! I first started off in middle school, and it was frustrating for me, but I kept at it and improved. And the more I played it the more I understood the instrument and it was making more sense. As with any instrument, practice always makes perfect. Don't be discouraged one bit if you're stuck on playing a note, or getting the fingerings right. Take it one step at a time and move on to the next one. Before you know it you'll be capturing the ladies at the club. lol

i'm primarily a guitar player, and about a year ago i went to see a tash sultana concert. about halfway through the set, they pulled out a saxophone and i was utterly entranced. i always had a passing intrest in the saxophone, and had considered picking it up, but i just never got around to it. a little while ago, i remembered that i had my grandma's highschool band sax in a closet, and i've spent the last couple weeks getting it back into playing shape. we'll see how it goes, but i'm pretty excited

I played alto sax in band in middle school for two years, but my original instrument pick was drums. I taught myself how to play drums at age 5 and was already playing in church by the time I was in middle school. I picked drums, but my band teacher didn’t want female drummers so she lied and said all of her percussion spots were filled and I had to pick another instrument. I chose alto sax because my older brother played alto sax. Eventually I got a new band teacher and he allowed me to transition from alto sax to percussion. I’ve also played baritone sax. I’m just relearning some things now in remembrance of my brother. 🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾

Saxophonists I’ve really loved so far are Lester Young, Coleman Hawkins … and just absolutely in love with what I’ve heard of John Coltrane so far. Had a few weeks of lessons. At age 42 , busy life/kids and with no musical training/knowledge , its hard to learn, and slow going. But I’ll try and keep chipping away , a little a day. And I’m enjoying learning! I'm 50. I play keys and do vocals in a cover band after a very long hiatus of not playing at all. Back in high school, I played clarinet and tried to switch to sax, but it never worked out. Every since, I've sworn that one day I wanted to learn sax. However, I never pursued it. Recently, I joined a rock band once again, playing keys and singing. We did a gig last weekend and some random person from the audience happened to be a sax player and asked kindly if he could join us on stage if we did any "blues-style" songs. When he joined us, all my thoughts of playing sax came back to life. I am going to buy one and figure out how to play the thing! I'm not getting any younger!

One thing that I think was extremely helpful as a beginner was learning how to properly use the lower thumb to push the instrument forward (rather than holding it up like a clarinet) and how to align the neck-strap properly. Very underrated techniques, much like not resting my arm on my leg while playing. Nice Video!

Fell in love with the sound of the sax when i first heard Baker Street as a teenager. Have wanted to play (or even just touch one!) ever since but have never found the time. Went to a madness tribute band a couple of weeks ago and was mesmerized by the sax all night. Im now 55 and think its about time it came off of my bucket list. So im looking to buy a second hand Alto Saxophone and give it a go. Wish me luck.

I remember listening to an 8 track of Boots Randolph when i was a kid and thinking "I love this sound". So I joined band in middle school and played until I broke my wrist in a fight. Now I'm 43 and hearing it in genres I wouldn't normally think a saxophone would work, like in Volbeat's "Wait A Minute My Girl," and it's made me fall in love with the sound again.

i am now 62 years young and relearning the alto sax, I played the alto sax in high school band, and because I didn't own my sax when I graduated it went back to the school, my sisters bought me an alto sax for my birthday a few years ago, anyway I have decided to get back to my love of playing my sax and your lessons are making it easy for me to relearn how to play, thank you.

I just started at 19, my dad always wanted me to play an instrument but I could never find one I was interested in, but I began thinking back to high school band. I always wanted to play a saxophone but I just didn't want to have to learn, now I'm a bit older and it's easier than I thought. So thanks for the help, will definitely stick around to learn more.

My husband has been talking about wanting to play saxophone for quite a while now. His motivation was the sexy sax man tunes. But he also said he's always wanted to learn an instrument at some point. I surprised him for his birthday and got him a rental alto sax! I played clarinet for 9 years, from fifth grade through the beginning of college. It would be much smoother for me to teach him on a tenor but we have an alto for now. He's never played an instrument or read music before. Wish us luck!

I’m actually a clarinet player, so listening to Benny Goodman with my great grandma was what got me into jazz! Just now learning alto after having played tenor in jazz since middle school.

My introduction to sax began in the 60s in 4th grade from a storybook; Melindy's Medal. I had no idea of what it was, what it looked like, or what it sounded like. During the following school year, our first music teacher arrived, and he showed a film that showed all of the music instruments and a sample of what they sounded like. Once I heard the sound of that alto sax, I was hooked! By the time I was in 6th grade , the new music teacher, who was also a band leader, established the first marching band for that elementary school. Guess who was first to sign up and for which instrument?😂..I played all the way through high school, along with Basson for concert band. I'm now 63 and looking forward to picking up where I left off. Thanks so much for your help .. 🎶🎷

Lifelong musician here, primarily a drummer. I listen to a lot of prog metal and the tipping point for me was hearing the sax solo in D.O.S.E by Intervals and seeing how much fun their guest saxophonists have with it live. I NEED to learn to the sax, it's just too cool! I've also recently started getting really into this new wave of 80s-inspired synth pop stuff coming out, and epic, summery sax solos are making a big comeback in this genre too (see tracks like Nothing New by The Strike, Kyra (The Midnight Remix) by Clubhouse). Can't wait to get started, thanks for the guidance!

Great song, for me it was Rivers of Nihil's "The Void From Which No Sound Escapes." Also sort of prog metal, if you can handle growls I gauruntee you'd love it.

I started out playing piano, keyboards synths, then drums and guitars. Now sadly arthritis is preventing me doing that so I bought an Alto. As a child my late father used to play a lot of Jazz on his reel to reel tape deck and one tune I loved was by a quartet led by Dave Brubeck with Paul desmond on Alto called - 'TAKE 5'. (probably before your time!) Also Baker street but a guy called Kenny G really brought relaxing sax into the forefront of music. Late night listening driving on a summer night. He had VERY famous chart hit with 'SONGBIRD' on alto. SUPERB. GREAT LESSONS!

Ive always been musical, done lots of singing and learned to play keys at young age. Sax has always been my dream to play and with double bass I find it the most sexiest instrument in the entire world. I’ve now starting lessons with sax, got myself a tenor sax and am just thrilled to see if I can switch my horizontal view of keys into vertical one ❤ as to what inspired me to this instrument there are so many, it just is the most amazing sound in the entire world

I was inspired by some local players,by Dexter Gordon's sound,by Lisa Simpson, albeit she plays Baritone, but mainly inspired by the history and Majesty of this instrument. Why did I waste my elementary school band classes playing Trumpet and Cornet??? I should have been a Sax man all along!!!! Oh well,64 is a good time to start on my next journey!!!

Rock and Metalhead here,. A few jazz pieces namely from Scott Hamilton really had me intrigued by learning the sax but it was a lot of the synthwave scene that has me hooked. Seeing Tim Cappello collab with Gunship or many of the Midnight's tracks (Jason, River of Darkness) that really inspired me to pick up a sax!
