Just change the team, put MSD in Australian team where he gets to keep for great bowlers (with all due respect to our bowlers) and players who can stoop to low level sledging and resort to unethical tactics and imagine Gilly keeping to Kumble, Bhajji, Ashwin and Jaddu's guiles. There is no doubt that MSD's records will, still improve but that of Gilchrist may not be same as it's now! Though I'm a big fan of Adam Gilchrist!

Much better? Dhoni was by far the best wicket keeper As far as batting is concerned Gilchrist was an Opener and MS came down the order. Even if you like Gilchrist i wont ever go as far as saying any player as Much better than Dhoni

I m a fan of Msd but I will pick ghilchrist.bcoz he was the reason Australia won 3 world cups as he played great knocks in 1999,2003 and his best in 2007 final.and he is the reason why I love the all time Aussie XI.

The Fact that Gilchrist also had to keep and open at the same time and maintain a strike rate of 97+ is what makes him impressive. Dhoni has played over 300 ODI matches consistnely thats why he has over 10000 runs. Michael Bevan and AB Devilliers were far more superior finishers to Dhoni.

But again Gilly is ahead in term of strike rate & don't forget Gilly played in early 2000 era whereas dhoni started late & continued till 2019. Odi cricket became a joke after 2011 worldcup specially with two new ball from both side & For a kind reminder Dhoni averaged 47 @6.

Lara had 3 double centuries against Australia when McGrath played. 2 in Australia and 153 in 1999 was one of the greatest test innings of all time. Tendulkar has zero double centuries against McGrath.Even in 2003 series when Tendulkar was struggling McGrath was not playing. McGrath played with Tendulkar

@@marlonsamuels6432 Sachin -Mcgrath duels were more or less even stevens and Sachin possessed respectable record in both formats when Mcgrath played. Comparing Lara-Mcgrath to Sachin-Mcgrath doesn't make sense w.r.t context because despite Lara definitely played Mcgrath convincingly better, Sachin's record was pretty good in its own . It was several other aspects that made Sachin a better over all batsman to Lara .

Show me another Wicketkeeper batsman with 50+ avg in Odi playing in middle order 5-6-7 having more than 10000 runs in which more than 6500 runs scored under his own captaincy. Show me another batsman who takes less innings(38) than MSD to become no. 1 odi batsman. We are not choosing Dhoni becoz we are Indian we are choosing him becoz becoz he did better. Gilly was not captain and he had the luxury of ponting ,Martyn symond and bevan like match winners after him in Odi but Dhoni didn't had that luxury still having more runs than Gilly with better avg showing his skills and mindset under tremendous pressure of cricket loving crowd. You can choose Gilly if you want opener but as a wicketkeeper batsman having Captaincy and finishing skills it belongs to Dhoni.

I think the comment box forgot who is the fastest to reach at 1st in odi ranking of batsman and also the man who demoted himself in the middle order instead playing at no. 3 and even gautam said that if he would have batted at no. 3 always he would have broken all the records♥️♥️ By the way no hates to other players but it is truth that if dhoni hadnot sacrificed his no.3 for team then he would be one of the best indian batsman along with sachin sir🙂🙂 Gilchrist was very very good but mahi at no.3 was just 💥💥💥💥💥

Gilchrist had the luxury of Haydos, Langer, Ponting, Martyn, Bevan, Symonds and look at Dhoni it was only after 2008 he had a Prime Sehwag, Sachin, Gambhir, Yuvi, Bhajji & Zak later he had the likes of Rohit, Virat & Raina Not easy being a WKB in Indian team 😢

Gilchrist can easily be the greatest cricketer ever if cricket didnt just focus on batting and batsmen. Bowlers dont get that limelight and wicketkeepers even less. Gilly was and forever will be the benchmark for a wk batter. The greatest No. 7 in test history. An automatic choice. Plus people shouldn't be blind over more ODI runs made by Dhoni. Gilly made those runs as an opener and 9600 of them. Needless to mention, in a much competitive era (WI, SL, Pak, were much better, only NZ was maybe worse) He made 9600+ runs in ODI cricket, not a mere 4-5k. A time when hardly anyone even crossed that many runs in ODI. Most tests hundreds by a wk batter and 100s all over the world in the most beautiful and destructive fashion. Also for IPL kids, show me Dhoni's IPL player of the tournament award even after playing so many years while Gilly just played 5-6 seasons that too after retirement. What a legend and what a man. Even technique wise a way better batter. Flair wise, stats wise, there is just no match for Gilly. All this with due respect to Dhoni. Our national hero.

Jisko semi final aur final ka importance pta ho tournament ka wo hamesha gilchrist ko pick krgea.. If you have best team then captaincy become easier like ricky and dhoni but when wickets starts to ctumble then glichrist like crunch player comes to rescue and that too in quarter,semi or final.. 2003,2007 one man show

Dhoni in Odi and Gilchrist in tests.....dhoni was rank 1 odi batsman for 700+ days + 2 times icc odi batsman of the year....

Any educated person will pick Gilchrist who won 3 world cups, 2 champions trophy, captained Australia to test series win in India and also won one IPL trophy. He did everything

In my opinion both are great wicket keeper batsman but their role was totally different as batsman.Gilchrist used to give great start to australia whereas dhoni role was to finish the game which he did many times.starting and ending both are important.

I have been fan of Gilchrist since Sachin times but it was Dhoni who made be watch cricket again because I rarely saw someone playing the game actively on field like Australians before he became captain. One is best catch taker behind the wicket, and other is best at stumping. Sadly, MS never became an permanent opener like Rohit and Gilchrist was from the time when openers in ODI used to be perfect. I mean most of them used to score 100 without getting out and some of them were better hitter than Rohit.

Dismissals/inning in all 3 formats Gilly 1.865 AB 1.784 MSD 1.363 Away tests avg - Gilly 49.70 AB 55.24 MSD 32.54 Away ODIs avg - AB 54.20 MSD 48.65 Gilly played in different era. Away T20I record (SR matters more here)- MSD 33.82 avg, 123.31 SR AB 27.93 avg, 133.13 SR Gilly 22 avg, 145.59 SR MSD is better than both in only captaincy. (Source - cricinfo & howstat)

Gilchrist any day. Also a better keeper than MS. No doubt MS is also brilliant. Add on apart from skills dhoni has leadership skills. But for important matches would have to consider Gilchrist.
