Great video restoration series. I restored a C32 and C33, MC2205 is next.. Was able to find the Computer Grade Caps with recent date code, ordered the rest of lytics caps. Got lucky and found some 36VDC relays.

A little constructive criticism... only remove one Cap at a time and replace it. This may take longer. However, removes the chance of errors and possible wrong Cap installation. You are doing a great job, keep up the educational videos!

I like how you say that "It will eject all the electrolyte" haha. I popped a big power supply cap once, the worst part is the smell! My shop stank for 2 days!

Hi interesting thing I just discovered. I always thought that the big power supply caps were connected in parallel but I looked at the schematic and they are connected in series which would cut the capacitance in half and double the breakdown voltage. Hmmm.
@Tinybench
@Tinybench 5 ай бұрын
Hello teammate! They are not connected, neither in parallel nor in series. They are two different circuits, sharing a common ground. One capacitor is for the positive rail voltage and the other capacitor is for the negative rail voltage. Make 100% sure that you lined up the vents on the capacitors with the holes in the chassis of the amplifier or they will explode and eject large amounts of electrolyte. Each circuit has 39,000 uf capacitance. 🙂🙏

T@@Tinybench The schematic looks to be in series because the positive side of one of the is connected to ground . The pos output is connected to the positive side of one of the caps and neg output is connected to the neg side of the other cap. Check the schematic see if I'm reading it wrong.

@@shaknit Hello teammate. I am not sure what happened but I already answered this question. Please refer to my previous reply. I explained that they are not connected neither in series nor parallel. One capacitor is on one circuit, and the other capacitor is on a different circuit. If you know any electrical engineers, maybe you can give them a call and keep in mind that if you why are these incorrectly, they will explode.

@@Tinybench Go look at the schematic. It is in series
@Tinybench
@Tinybench 5 ай бұрын
@@shaknit Hello teammate the Amplifier has two rail voltages. One is positive and one is negative. The positive side has a 39,000 µF filter capacitor and the negative side also has a 39 µF filter capacitor. These are two independent circuits that do not interact, neither in series nor in parallel, but simply share a common ground. I am very familiar with the schematics diagram as I have been staring at them for years. Whether you think they are in series or parallel it, doesn’t matter as long as you connect them correctly. But notice how each capacitor is enclosed in its own circuit. You just have to look at the schematic diagrams in a different way. What I think is confusing you is the fact that on the negative rail voltage side, the positive side of the capacitor is grounded, which makes it look like a series connection. Just make sure you line up the vent on the capacitor with the hole on the chassis of the amplifier or it will go Boom. 🤣😂🤣😂🤣

Thank you for the good and interesting video, that's great. I would also like to restore my MC2205. I live in Germany and my device has 240 volts. What do you think of the idea A list of the parts you need to replace so that interested parties can order the parts. The manufacturer of the capacitors used would also be good. Please keep up these good videos Thanks again

hello tiny, many thanks for the quick response. It would be nice if you could put together a repair set for me and send it to me. please tell me how much it will cost including shipping to Germany. I have another question, my device has 240 volts, I think that is important for the selection of parts. I saw an offer on eBay for a repair set for the MC2205. that costs about $160 plus shipping. what do you think about that? is it good? Many thanks for your quick answer. regards Henning

Tiny bench, I have a question for you regarding them two non polar capacitors by the input 2.5v and .75v level switch. In the service manual it states it's slot c229/c230 poly .01uf 2.5 63v. My current amp that I am going through has two 1uf 80v in there currently? All the different schematics for the mcintosh mc2205 say it's non polar! And this non polar capacitor seems hard to find, could you share where you located these capacitors. Thank you in advance ☺️

Okay boss another question the .15 ohm 5 watt resistors in the output transistors on those big heat sinks. Have some way our of specs but a I can find are wirewound resistors now I have read that you shouldnt use wirewounds on common emitter amps. what are your thoughts, Mc2205
@Tinybench
@Tinybench 3 ай бұрын
Hello teammate! Those are wirewound resistors. Is that your question? And are you sure that those are out of specs because I have never seen those get out of specs. Why won’t resistors are usually spot on? Make sure nothing is affecting your measurements. Good luck!

@@shaknit 9 Ohms??? WTF!!!! Lift one leg off the PCB and then measure it. I really think something else is throwing off the measurements. By lifting one leg of the circuit. It will isolate the resistor, and I bet it will measure spot on. Teammate if you haven’t, please subscribe. I would really appreciate it. Thank you so much.

Teammate unfortunately, those are now obsolete but I’ll get you a link for one that will work. They will be available in April DigiKey, and mouser. They run out if you need it right now I can send you a link for one that is the exact same size but 47,000 µF it’s still OK because the originals are 39,000 µF but with a -10+ 75% tolerance.

He may not be the most knowledgeable at electronics, and he says in this video that this is his hobby, and loves doing this. And that's what matters the most. Maybe instead of trying to insult others in KZfaq, you can work on your own hobbies... Or is this your biggest hobby? I don't know you, but you may be a great technician. But I'd take an amplifier to this man before I take it to you and your hard heart.
