Great video. Love your commentary and instructional videos on tube amps and McIntosh in particular. I am an amateur tube amp restorer, but not advanced much beyond the "shotgun" approach you mentioned in another video. I am learning slowly and appreciate the information and effort you put into these videos. Thank you.

Hey Mark, In response to that last comment I felt he need to thank you - because of you and Uncle Doug I have the confidence and knowledge to troubleshoot ,recap and bias my classic amps - 4 successful so far - next is a vintage Pioneer integrated amp. Hey! Not sure if anyone has said anything, but the McIntosh Clinic Performance Certified stickers don't mean "Date of Birth", it means Dave O'Brian, who ran the Mac Clinics and was the Chief Test Engineer on the road. They both visited the Mac Clinic in 1974.

I really enjoy watching your videos, they are very educational and I grasp the way you explain the processes very well. You make me confident about digging deeper into audio circuit repair. The phono cartridge and tape head EQ is quite fascinating. The user makes the coarse adjustments with the switches then makes the fine adjustments with the tone controls, and together they can properly EQ any record or tape ever made. (78's, 45's and early LP's had a wide range of recording curves; RIAA became the standard in 1955.) McIntosh specifies only 2 microvolts of noise in this circuit with 53 dB of gain!

Nice intro, but you made a couple of mistakes. :) The MC30 mono amps were manufactured from 1954 to 1962, per former McIntosh employee Roger Russell's website (www.roger-russell.com/amplif1.htm#mc30). The McIntosh Clinic's were a service provided by McIntosh to their dealers to test and verify the specs of anyone's amp or receiver if they would bring it to the store where DOB (Dave O'Brien - www.roger-russell.com/clinics.htm) would be that day. So, the two amps you have in for repair/upgrade were at a McIntosh clinic at a store somewhere on 4-7-1971 and were tested for proper operation by Dave O'Brien. Of course, back then, McIntosh components were almost always better manufactured and would have better specs, the stores got a lot of new McIntosh sales around clinic time. :) Looking forward to the rest of your series.

How do you polish the MC30s if it’s rusty? And without taking the letters off?

What is the voltage? 110 or 220

I'm curious, can 2 of these be connected to feed a stereo amp? Such as an MC240?
