It's like I was never anything but an amateur athlete but I hurt myself repeatedly. I ruined a shoulder swimming, I blew my shins out running and I broke my collar bone and had a compound fracture in my right arm on a bike. That and I cracked my ribs diving for a ball playing softball. I can remember how I felt when I realized that - no - it was NOT going to get better. I could function normally but ... running six miles a day or swimming two miles ... those days were over ... I didn't want to believe it - but they were. I went through therapy and got somewhat better - but never was able to do what I had been doing before. You see that pattern a lot as injuries bring a career to an end. They get some and they go through therapy and try to get better. Sometimes they do and they try to come back. Sometimes the can and sometimes they can't but even if they do - they can get injured again ... and again ... Eventually it just takes to big a toll on them and they realize they aren't coming back and ... it's over. The utterly amazing thing about athletes at this level - is that they are still able to do it at all. You have some athletes that age out or just get tired of having to put themselves through all that training but a lot of them end their careers because of injuries. It's really common - and if you look at what they are doing to their bodies - on a daily basis in training - not surprising at all. My understanding is that McKayla's foot injury came during training. .
@murasakino1012 жыл бұрын
@@audramanahan3410 yeah I wish more people would care more for an athletes health rather than seeing them compete with injuries. I cringe every time I watch a gymnast perform with horrible injuries and I know they train their whole lives for that moment, but physical and mental health is important. I don't blame mckayla for not coming back after not only having injuries, but being assaulted by that creep. It's why miss gymnasts haven't returned to the sport and I don't blame them one bit. I miss McKayla Maroney, and wish she would have been an all-arounder or continued on to NCAA gymnastics. Her career was way too short for me. On that third tumbling pass, I think she never really grasped the concept of keeping the 1.5 lower to the ground as she continues through to the double tuck. She takes it sky high like all of her other tumbling passes, which is beautiful, but it loses forward momentum. But that 3.5 is sky high -- best I've ever seen that tumbling pass -- including the Chinese gymnasts. Nobody takes it as high as she does. She could have easily pulled off a quad.

@Disney5827 жыл бұрын
Leandro Araujo I thought so too until I saw the Chinese... Almost everyone does it but adds a front tuck out of it to get even more points. Shang Chunsong basically has an H opening pass because of connection value. If it was upgraded to a G, then she would have an I which in my opinion is far too much
@leandroaraujo71337 жыл бұрын
Disney582 yes, could be. and what do you think about the chinese vaults? i dont see why they cant, at least shang, throw more doubles or even an amanar when they are capable of a 3. 5. I know it also requires more skills apart from the twisting one... but its quite strange
@Disney5827 жыл бұрын
Leandro Araujo yeah it is really odd... I think it's partially not being able to run fast enough and transfer that to the board. Shang lands on the board really flat, so she doesn't really pop off. It's so weird though because in 2008 all the Chinese had doubles/amanar.
@maxrenaud81237 жыл бұрын
Leandro Araujo have you seen the men's code? Some people (probably including myself) would go ballistic if even more wag tumbles were upgraded
@xxSennaxx7 жыл бұрын
+Disney582 I think Shang just doesn't have a good block technique, and apparently she had a nasty accident with the vault when she was younger and has a bit of a mental block on it- I think she's the exception. Mao Yi also does the same 3.5 tumbling pass as Shang and she has a solid DTY. The Chinese have had DTYs pretty consistently imo- at Rio they had Mao and Tan with DTYs and Wang with her double tsuk. I don't think China has ever had a gymnast consistently throwing amanars except for Cheng Fei. Tan Jiaxin and Huang Qiushuang trained amanars but never had them consistent enough for competition. Only other one I can think of is Jiang Yuyuan, who did have a pretty good amanar in 2008 briefly but ended up not being able to land it in Beijing due to a shoulder injury - I don't think she ever competed the amanar after that :/

"For me, the scariest night of my life happened when I was 15 years old. I had flown all day and night with the team to get to Tokyo. He'd given me a sleeping pill for the flight, and the next thing I know, I was all alone with him in his hotel room getting a 'treatment.' I thought I was going to die that night."
