In all reality, most of these issues are pretty insignificant and mild compared to many other supercars. They are well built and perform exceptionally well.

Guys this car is one of the most underrated cars. Is it better than a 458 Ferrari quite possibly yes by a mile What car in this range actually has a carbon tub and 616bhp. Most of the issues such as flat battery are simply fixed by just leaving on trickle charge when not in use. If the spoiler is partially up, as in you’ve stoped in active mode. Simply drive off and it will reset. I actually own one of these and had no issues. It’s actually flawless and an amazing piece of been engineering. My advise is buy one while you can and buy one which has been serviced regardless of mileage at McLaren annually. That way lots of these issues are not a problem. Cam phasers normally have issues when cars have been revved hard from cold. Have mechanical empathy and allow the engine oil and water to get up to temperature and before driving hard and you’ll be unlikely to have these issues. Guys it really is time you recognised how great this car is.

The real problem is that the early volcano colors (specifically Volcano Red and Volcano Orange) all the way through the 650S did not have a thick enough clear coat over the top of the tinted clear coat to protect it. The cars are actually silver and then painted with a tinted clear in the color of the vehicle. The combination of UV rays, heat, and even paint correction will degrade the tinted clear coat. The reason some sections of the car seem to be worse than others is because of the differences with metal, composite, and plastic the way they react to the sun. Mirror caps and gas caps tend to fade really fast.

I have half a dozen supercars: Porsches lambos ferraris owned anywhere from 5-9 years and they all have been great to me, each has its own weakness and issues. Have been taking a back seat on the mclarens over the years coz I have been waiting for Indy mechanics and suppliers to catch up and learn about these cars, as paying 4k a year to dealers for warranty on a car that’s unlikely to ever appreciate makes zero sense. Always respect them as amazing machines, but my god those issues across all fronts are indeed intimidating and discouraging (mechanical, paint, design flaws, interiors, electronics, hydraulics). I can see someone taking the gamble if they only intend to own 1-2 years

570's don't have accumulators. The entire sport series doesn't have them, and neither does the GT. Power steering rack issues actually stem from bad accumulators. What happens is the accumulators absorb the power steering fluid, it gets below it's minimum level, and then you start getting air in the system and it could damage the rack. Usually if you catch it in time you just need to top off the fluid until you can replace the accumulators. Notchy steering is an indicator of bad accumulators.

A good friend bought one for £198k new, had an epic service bill for £27k. Owned the car 3 years with minimal miles and was offered £65k by McLaren Manchester UK. He eventually sold it private for £76k. 😩 Meanwhile 458 prices are on the up and having driven both would say the Ferrari delivers on every level.

As a long term owner of a 12c I don’t recognize the litany of issues this review highlights. If you want an accurate summation of a 12C I’d recommend looking at John Thorne’s breakdown at Thorney Motorsport. He’s serviced literally hundreds of them and like me takes a different view to this very negative view.

I was looking at one 12C last week and noticed there was a bill to cover the replacement of a cylinder head. Unfortunately, it meant a new engine from McLaren at a total cost of approx £40k! On the bright side, McLaren HQ is only round the corner from me. 😅

I appreciate this video as a layout but think you can thank declining values to videos like this. Would love to know what the failure rates on these items really are on a percentage basis? This video makes it seem like ALL MP4s have all these issues and are basket cases which doesn't appear to be the reality. Could you clarify a bit on how many cars you've seen with these issues?
