People say that season 1 is boring, but I think that its mainly the first 6-9 episodes that people find boring, and most of this is because those episodes are entirely dedicated to character development. When you have a show with 6 main characters, you have to develop who each character is and how they all work together, and Agents of SHIELD does a fantastic job of this, as everything really comes together towards the end of season 1.

The only people who "hate" season 1 are people who did not finish it🤣

Season 1 is not bad, it's just that the later seasons are so much better. It is a lot of set-up in the first half, so it can feel like it's not going anywhere, but it all pays off. Also, it's not entirely the show's fault, since they had to wait for the movies to come out before they could do certain reveals. Anyway.... that's my little rant. I find it frustrating that season 1 gets such a bad rap because it's really not that bad, but it keeps people from getting into the show. Glad you're watching

Anyone who says to skip the first season is insane. Slow start, sure. But it also has some of the best story beats of the whole show. And this is coming from someone who thinks it just keeps getting better and better.

Don’t worry. It does get better. Episode 6 is really good, really intense. The plot really picks up during Episode 10. The rest of the season after that is amazing.

Also, Season 1 is looked back on more positive now, especially when you can binge it and not wait a week. The pacing just works better

The issue with season 1 is that they couldn't really start their plot until a certain Marvel content came out because the events of that movie had a direct impact on the show.

One more comment. I know they haven't earned it yet but trust the writers. You have no idea what they have already laid out. On rewatch, its brilliantly setting things up.

Yes, a new AOS reactor! The ride gets so good and remains one of my favourite MCU adjacent TV shows with the characters just growing so phenomenonally with great character dynamics. Season 1 is weaker but essential for everything else being so impactful as well as some great episodes in the mix :D hope you enjoy the ride!

I can’t imagine why anyone would call season 1 “boring” and even suggest skipping it. It lays the groundwork for everything that follows, and that makes it essential to me.

Basically, they were expecting the Avengers every week (cast, story, FX, etc.). On a 22-episode/season TV show. That was never how it was going to work. And yet, for those of us who soldiered through the threat of cancellation that followed almost every season, and for those who've reacted since, we got our Avengers-level show. So sit back, grab a drink, grab a snack, fasten your seatbelt, and enjoy the ride. Welcome.

I genuinely love season one. It was shaky and a bit slow at the start but there are so many amazing episodes in season one still! You cant watch the show without season one so i cant imagine people enjoying the show as much if they skipped season one

Both the Defenders series and AOS were designed as MCU canon. There are some thoughts that they may have been retconned but anything Feige has said in the past says that they are canon Some people find that the first 10 episodes are slow and part of this reason is that they needed to sync up with the release date of one of the movies.

As a MCU Fan you're in for an absolutley amazing ride. I get that season 1 is the least liked, but hated? Thats just not fair. The first like 10 Episodes are maybe a little bit much of setup, but the pay off is so worth it! And just my 2 cents: Yes, the visual effects are rough sometimes. Sometimes they are absolutley great. Especialy for a 22 Episode Network show. But the writing is top notch for at least 95% of the time. I would argue it's the best in the MCU for me. And don't think they don't have a plan. Nearly everything gets explained or resolved sooner or later. Just wait for the payof.

This is a first season of a Whedon series. It builds. After you complete the series, and rewatch, you will see in plain sight what you missed.

I will say one more thing... When you hear them play "(Don't Fear) The Reaper" is when the show REALLY shifts out of first gear!!!

I have seen all seven seasons/136 episodes. It's remains one of my favourite TV shows ever. All I can say, given your reaction after three episodes in, as that the show are watching now is not the show you will be watching come the season one finale. Or the season two finale. Or the third, fourth, fifth, sixth or seventh. TV shows set in the MCU are a dime a dozen nowadays. That was not the case back in 2013. AoS had to figure everything out as it went along. So there's one or two stumbles and missteps along the way until the writers find their footing. But, if this is not a show you want to see develop and grow, do yourself a favour and quit now. Personally, I hope you stick with it and come to love it as much as its dedicated fan base does to this day. Have fun!

I'm glad they had the courage to stick with this, they must have known the reaction to the first few episodes, but the pay off is great. And I think its worthwhile, we get time with characters, we care, it makes what follows so much more impactful.

People that say you can skip season 1 didnt watch more than a few episodes. It seems to be a villain of the week and that is not entirely wrong. There is a deeper plot already but you cant see it now.

i was around when season 7 aired and watched it as it came out; at that time the fandom was already pretty quiet, but we're still active if you know where to look! i guess we just didn't make a lot of noise. season 1 is pretty much all "villain of the week" stuff, but it gets pretty crazy as it goes on!! this show is one of my favorites of all time, i hope you enjoy it!!!

You honestly have the perfect amount of each episode tied in. I wouldn't cut any more out, it's like the perfect balance! Id rather see two episode videos with the same amount of content per episode, than 3 episode videos with drastically cut content

I don't think it's a bad first season, by any means. It's a fairly strong full length first season of a network show, with no more growing pains than is typical. It starts out kind of episodic (by ABC mandate), then gets more serialized as it goes, as a lot of network shows do. The bigger problem with season 1 when it aired, from what I recall, was the breaks. They took weeks off before properly hitting a stride and some people just forgot to come back to it. I think one of the reasons that happened was because the release date for one of the movies got moved, and the show had to sync up to it. So the experience of watching season 1 as it aired was slow. But if you can get through season 1 in a shorter amount of time, and be patient with the early episodic format as the pieces gradually get placed on the board (and take note of the unanswered questions and seeds of things to come), I don't think you'll have any problem getting into it.

I also started watching the show very recently and I'm currently on season 4. I personally liked season 1 and I thought that's all the show has to offer but I was so wrong. The writing in this show is top notch. Even in season 1, once you reach a certain point it becomes really good and after that it just keeps getting better.

Okey, so i have some thougths before I watch the reactions. First or all, season 1 is not boring, and its not bad and im definetly sure people dont hate season 1 (unless they hate the show in general overall, then you know), season 1 just starts a bit slower and formalayic then people were hoping is all. Second of all, this show was always canon. I think Daredevil always was, but if you wanna say that it wasnt until it was confirmed in NWH, then sure. But this show is the other way around, it has always been canon, or at least started as being canon, and then as the show and the MCU went on forward, it got a bit muddy is all I will say (and people who dislike the show will also just straight up say it is not canon as a way to put the show down, without sometimes even having watched the show or caring about the context or what is true). But this show was definetly meant to be canon with the MCU and was marketed as being a part of the MCU when it originally came out, they even used the tagline "Its all connected". And Marvel or Kevin feige hasnt gone back on saying it was canon, even if it was a long time ago, ergo the show is still canon unless they come out and say otherwise. (Regarding the show being canon, it does tie into the movies quite a lot, at least in the beginning, and if you want i can post an overview of what episode ties into a movie/if a episode is right before or right after a specific movie if you want. It will enhance your watching experience quite at least in one big case.) Also, regarding people not talking about it in 2020, this show has always had a smaller, but loyal fanbase. And something else that was quite big happened in 2020, if you might remember.

even though canon always discussed, I highly recommend watching Agents of Shield in watch order with the MCU movies. Several sites have the order listed (for example, AoS S1 E16 ---> Captain America: Winter Soldier ---> AoS S1 E17). Excited to watch you react

Season 1 is a really slow burn, but it makes for a good foundation and the plot only gets better.

Whoever says S1 is bad just means the seasons forward are better but S1 isn't bad the 2nd half of it is certainly more intense but all of it answers the questions you have about Coulson, and I'll say it follows the MCU timeline pretty well without any major characters and it has a good ending overall. And more poeple need to watch this show it gives Shield and Coulson sooo much more development than the movies and its heartfelt ugh so good

You remember in the early part of Captain America, when they went to the Stark Expo and saw Howard demonstrating a red car a few years away from reliably flying? I don't know for sure, but that car looked to me an awful lot like Lola. Plus, Coulson is way too much of a history buff for his pride-and-joy possession to be something Tony made, whereas Tony is too modern for any of his inventions to have the aesthetic of something from the '40s. No, I'm pretty sure Lola is a Howard Stark invention.

I was once of those who gave up on the show after a couple of episode when the show came out. The first few episode just felt like it wasn’t going anywhere and the dialogue was so cheesy but I’m glad I gave it a second chance because this and daredevil are my favorites

Ha, I was just shaking my head at your assessments of these first three episodes saying it's bad writing and "Why am I thinking there's foreshadowing? It's probably nothing because they're bad scripts." I had to laugh and said, "You are SO wrong. Wait for it..." You know by now (since you're at least in S3) that it seeded a bunch of stuff they pay off later. There's even some stuff from S1 they don't pay off until, like S5. It's the loooong game. I also think you were heavily influenced by people telling you that the first season is bad and those people are just flat out wrong. I watched this when it first aired and then watched it a second time with my friend and told her what a lot of people were saying at the time that it was bad and they stopped watching it and what I realized is that it was written in kinda a long form that works a LOT better if you binge watch it, which me and my friend did and she was like, "I don't know what people are talking about. This isn't bad at all." That's when I said, "It does flow a lot better when you watch them back-to-back." Although I don't mind interesting one week stories, after I'd seen the season and then watched it again with her, I kept going, "OH SHIT!" then she'd say, "What?" and I'd have to say, "Oh, it's something that I just realized they seeded that happens later on that I didn't remember! Nice." As much as you think an episode may be a "filler" ep, do not assume that ever with this show. Point is, people were hyped from movies like "The Avengers" and this show isn't like that, so they found the week-to-week episodes unappealing. I also think people were expecting to see a bunch of superheroes show up rather than it actually be about the agents of SHIELD and then thought stories about the non-supes were not interesting while I always did want to know more about this spy organization and how they handle crazy stuff, in general.

Hey, again. Glad to see you finally begin this journey. I must say im a bit concerned about this format. Now, I have seen other youtubers to this exact thing, where they have watch multiple episodes in the same episode, but that never really jelled with me. I always liked the structure of 1 episode each video, where you watch and discuss that episode and thats it. Now to be fair, i havent watched any of those other channels or videos where they do this, uncluding this one. Overall this format just strikes me the wrong way in terms it feels like reactors want to get a show done as fast as possible, and overall a rushing feeling. Not to mention it doesnt give each episode its own spotlight and attention that it deserves. Now maybe these first episodes in the first season, I could understand doing this, but later on, each episode is a big deal, and it would feel bad to just lump them togeter, when each one is a masterpiece deserves of its own seperate discussion and appreciation. Not to mention that a lot of fun is seeing a reactors thoughts and theories after each episode before you go into the next one. That for me is at least a big part of the joy of reactions, besides the reaction itself. So i would hopefully like to see more single episode videos, but if not, at least talk a little bit about your thoughts about the episode, and your theories for the next one, in between the reaction segmants, even if its only 5 minutes. But again, i havent watched the video yet, so maybe all this is for nothing, but i cant watch it right now, and i just wanted to get this said, while this video was fresh and i had this on my mind. But nevertheless, this is an awesome show, and im glad we could hype you more up at the subreddit before you began (which you are more then welcome to join, after you have watched the show of course). I'm surprised to hear that people suggested for you to skip the first season. I'm glad you didn't listen. You would have missed out on so much of the character development needed to feel connected to the characters and understand the stake for them

Oh, you are not going to believe the places this show goes... This show has ALMOST as much foreshadowing and convoluted, interconnected plots as Babylon 5 did! And if you have not seen Babylon 5, that is really saying something, as that show was almost completely plotted thru before the first episode ever aired. I just liked and subscribed...

So now i have watched the whole thing, and i really liked your reactions, and i can tell that you will enjoy this show a lot. And both the acting, writing and the visual effects get a lot, and I mean a LOT better, trust me. And the whole show, but especially season 1 funnily enough, has a ton of foreshadowing and some weird writing or character decision/moments that only makes sense later on. And this show is anything but predictable, and has some of the best twists i have seen in any tv show. So its was really funny when you said all that. But yeah, episode 2 is definetly the worst episode of the show, so its all up from here on out. Welcome to an amazing journey my friend, i cant wait.
