NEW FISH for SPECIAL PROJECT | MD Fish Tanks

I've got a great plan in mind for a cool shallow tank for these fish...the rice fish will also have something very interesting but I will talk about that at a later date. It's very different though. I'm going to be doing a faast shallow stream for the panda garra and hillstream loaches that should be pretty cool!

Best thing for rice fish is to put them in a pond style bowl or a tank low down as their colours show from looking at them from above and they sparkle.

Panda gara are my favorite fish!!! They are constantly doing something and moving around. They are also not shy at all. They will even get on your hands while you're doing maintenance. Love the video!!!

Loved the rainbow river so am glad to see a version return. You need a lid on the panda garra tank as they will find a way out. Happened to nearly all of mine over time even though some of the gaps were tiny

Ricefish are AWESOME! I watch another fish KZfaqr in Japan , Ryo Watanabe, and they keep many different kinds of ricefish in pots outdoors with plants and no filtration and they thrive. 👍🏼

I've been keeping Daisy's blue ricefish for a little while now. I keep them in a heavily planted setup and their colours and behaviour is wonderful. Be sure to check them out when lights first come on, they are usually in full breeding colour (males become a super dark blue). Glad you got these wonderful fish!

Love Panda Garra. I’ve got 10 myself. Amazing fish. Just be mindful that the Hillstream loach require lower temperatures hence why they are in the ‘Cold Water’ section with the Goldfish 😊

If you have the daisy's rice fish in a heavily planted tank like your guppies, plenty of babes will survive...I put 4 in an outdoor pond with a bunch moss...64 offspring made it over the summer. But I think they like it a little warmer than medaka? And the males are more colorful, particularly first thing in the morning...show offs. The ladies get more colorful with age though, when they stop laying eggs. And they are friendly/guppy brave when they settle in. Looking forward to see what you do with them

I am relatively new to your site. Just an old sassy broad finding new entertainment. Really enjoy your videos. I am kind of picky in choosing the sites I settle in subscribing to. I like yours for a bunch of reasons but the main ones are..your areas are always best and clean..your enthusiasm..the info you provide..your tanks are clean and beautifully scaped.. Top notch camera work..overall you get across to your audience the love you have for the hobby. I am new to this so bear with me if I ask silly questions. First question. Do you keep shrimp in all of your tanks as cleanup crews and if not .. Why not. Keep up the good work.

Hi, Mike. When we first went into lockdown last year I attempted to recreate your Rainbow River tank in response to Rachel O'Leary's Scrap tank challenge. It is an 80cm tank & holds 25 gallons. I found that a fluval 206 was adequate for flow & filtration. It is now home to sewellia, white clouds, yellow shrimp &, recently, 2 semoni goby. Anyone who sees it remarks on the Hygrophila emersed growth. The rocks are thick with green algae, which the hill streams & gobies spend hours grazing. Thanks for the idea. It will be interesting to see how you scape yours. Good luck & Happy New Year.

Made a serpea tetra specious tank yesterday you’ve inspired me to start simple again and learn tetras before a lot of other fish because there are so many sizes and colors I wasn’t even aware of until the amazon tank so thank you md and I hope everyone has a great day

Hillstream loaches climb out off tanks. So you'll probably need a lid for their tank. Also so jealous that your fish shop is open in England 🇬🇧 ours isn't in Northern Ireland 😢. Because funny enough I really want Hillstream loaches lol

BTW if you're putting daisy's ricefish into the high flow environment as well, they're going to hate it. They don't do really high flow, in fact, many people keep them without filters. I've found that low flow is fine, they do alright, but generally it is not recommended to keep them with hillstream fishes because the flow will really stress them out. You can tell by their body shape that they aren't built for it. Do love the overall idea though!

Great stuff as always! The power head use gave me an idea. You can use a vac as well. Just have the hose go to a bucket as a debrie catch and stick the power head in the bucket, rest like you showed in the video.

the panda gara i have are pretty aggressive, definitely the bosses of the tank . one of em even chases around my siamese algae eaters which are about 2x bigger than he is.

These are the borneo sucker loaches i think that's why they look different . They have blue or grey tales with yellow or green spots! The blue rice fish are the males! Put an airstone if you have in the loach tank or direct the flow to move the surface of the water!!! Nice choice you can also put a pair of rhinogobius or stiphodons in the hillstream aquarium! feed the loaches some algae wafers to because in the shops they are too stressed to eat !! good luck i will be waiting to see that tank!!! @johns_aquarium if you need any help on the hillstream species!!
