This is a follow up tutorial, I originally did a tutorial on live sound mixing on the Behringer 1204FX small format mixer, this tutorial is on the larger UB2222FX-Pro mixer, still a basic mixer but with a few extra features that the smaller mixer doesn't have.
This mixer has a parametric mid EQ, channel inserts and sub groups.
I have followed the same format & included the other features of the mixer

Amazingly clear and helpful. We use this mixer currently for live performances, but will also use it for simple recording mixes and thanks to your explanations much better monitoring for on stage fold backs or in-ears.

Bloody good basic setup tutorial for any mixer having gain adjust (pity no comp knob). Thinking of getting this mixer, so bookmarked.

Hi, thanks for your comments, don't worry too much about the missing 1 knob compressors (they don't impress me much as they don't act anything like a real compressor, but a real compressor would definitely be handy on any mixer) Regards Dean

This was very helpful. I have been dealing with headset body pack mic feedback at the past few events. So it's been tricky playing with the trim and gain for the headset no see mics for presenters. Part of my issue is I don't have a chance to mic check each presenter before they walk up on stage with live speakers. I about have a nervous breakdown as I slide up the mic level in front of all those people. Lol.

Hi, Lapels are very challenging to keep feedback under control & to then have a realistic natural sound for the spoken word, headsets are usually a little easier as they are closer to the mouth and less prone to gain issues. I usually ring out the lapel/headset before hand when no-one is around, walk the stage area and keep boosting the gain until feedback starts, then using a 31 band eq notch out the offending frequencies. I cut the first 3 frequencies & last 3 frequencies to the lowest the eq will allow, then ramp up/down over 3 frequencies. For eq looks like this _ _ _ / - - - - - - - \ _ _ _ sometimes you might have to add back some lower frequencies if it sounds too sharp/harsh, as a general rule I try not to notch much more than 6db to 9db for a single frequency and stop adjusting when I have over 50% of frequencies adjusted, ie less is best. So that gets rid of a lot of feedback but can make the spoken word sound yukky, don't be afraid to pull back some of your cuts or better still add some other frequencies top compensate ie add lower bass frequency will remove sharp treble tone. Once you get a base line that sounds good for the "average person" then you're nearly home, you only need to make minor changes as you get different presenters.Key frequencies I like to use are, ADD around 100hz to add bass tone, CUT around 300 to 500hz for the toilet/nasal sound, ADD 3khz to 5khz for clarity or CUT if sharp/annoying. Most adjustments are minor, usually 3 db. If you are using a parametric eq you can sweep the frequencies to listen for what you want to add/cut. The more you do it the better/quicker you will get at it, I think most people like myself at the start adjust too much, I always advise making minor adjustments at 3db. Hope that helps, can help if you have specific question. Regards Dean

Super helpful. We had great sound using the board at our Chicago event. We had 1600 people in the audience and all the mics sounded great. We only had a few minor hiccups with 2 presenters initially and I was able to quickly compensate for their voices using your tactics. Thank you for your helpful tips!

Hi. This is one of the most straight-to-the-point, no rubbish, quality demo. I only have one question. I am planning to use two input sources, live microphone and a pre-recorded phonogram from a laptop. On the microphone channel I would like to add some effects, whereas I would like to keep the laptop channel free of any effects. Can I do it with this mixer? If yes, how do I do it? Thank you

Hi, this is a very common question (if you look down the thread of this and the other mixer tutorial you'll probably see some similar conversations). It is easy, but it can be tricky the first time. Use the FX AUX2 send knob on the Mic channel, set it straight up, rotate the AUX2FX send effects knob located under the led display on the effect unit (point it straight up) , now the last knob you need to rotate is the AUX2FX return knob located in the same area (point it straight up). You should now have effects on your main out. For more detail refer to these sections in my videos. Thanks for sharing this very helpful video. I have a question about the gain structure. You mentioned that the trim knob is probably the most important knob to set, and to make sure that when adjusting the volume this does not clip. My question is, if I tested on a singer that sings really loud and I can only turn up the trim knob to less than 1/4 before it starts clipping, considering that the slider on that same chanel needs to be set at the "0" mark, in order to set the correct volume amount, wouldn't it affect the overall volume if the trim is set too low? I noticed that I can set my trim at least at 12 o'clock without peaking, but on the other singers microphone I can't pass more than one quarter on the knob. I'm I doing something wrong? I do karaoke gigs and I have a lot of feedback problems with certain singers. Any help you can give me would be greatly appreciated
@MDTV3
@MDTV3 7 жыл бұрын
Hi, there are 2 problems with setting the trim, if you are too hot you will get distortion = bad, if you are too low you will introduce electronic floor noise = who cares!, if you are going to be wrong in setting the trim, always err on the side of slightly under rather than slightly over.In regards to the distortion, are you checking the led level indicator on the channel to detect distortion or are you detecting distortion with your ears?Only reason I ask is that if it's by ear your system/speakers may be distorting, when you check the level PFL/Solo the leds should hit around zero/unityAre all singer's microphones exactly the same?Regards
@lamarcy
@lamarcy 7 жыл бұрын
MDTV3 Thanks for the fast response. The distortion shows on the clipping LED of the individual chanel, on the LED of the main mix volume meter and also in the speakers distortion can be heard.

I only have two microphones. One for me and one for everyone else. I cannot set the the slider level to unity because I get feedback
@MDTV3
@MDTV3 7 жыл бұрын
Hi, if you have 2 microphones the same but two singers that are very different in the acoustic volume then yes, I'd expect the loud one on a quarter and the softer one on half (roughly).Feedback is another question though, this has more to do with your proximity to your speaker or monitorHappy to help out, but I struggle to "see" your layout, feel free to send me a pic of your setup & it'll probably make it easier to see what's up

MDTV3 Thanks a lot for your help. Unfortunately I don't have a one see-up only. I work at different restaurants an each restaurant provides it's own speaker wich are already mounted and I cannot relocate them. Would it still help if I send you a drawing of at least one of the places?

Hi I have the behringer xenyx 2222 usb I am using it live with 3 mics keyboard drum unit and bass I am using left and right for my mains how can I hook up two monitors and still have reverb in the monitors thanks for any help
@MDTV3

Yep too easy, you can use AUX1 to send output to your monitors, daisy chain the monitors together. Turn up the AUX1 know on each channel you want in the monitor. To get the effects in the monitor (from memory) turn up the AUX 1 (I think) RETURNS

Is it possible to put several effects on at the same time on one channel? And are there any dubbeling effect? And how are the quality on the effects? Thanks for the upload :) cheers
@MDTV3
@MDTV3 7 жыл бұрын
Hi, with the built in effects you can only select 1 pre-set, you could run the signal out of the aux to multiple standalone effects units or add the onboard effect and an outboard effect unit. Not sure about the dubbeling effect? you'd have to scroll through them or read some of the descriptions (I usually just scroll through until I find something pleasant for vocals).

for some reason, I still can't get my effects to work. I am recording directly to a video camera, which works fine. using the rca out to mini pin. listening thru headphones. my question...there must be a button I am no pressing?? anybody can help plzz
@MDTV3
@MDTV3 7 жыл бұрын
The TAPE OUT RCAs are supposed to be a copy of the main output send so if you can hear the effects on the main output then you should hear it on the TAPE OUT. (Just make sure you're listening to the main output) You could try the CONTROL ROOM OUTPUTS. Strange, but I haven't ever done that on this mixer before.

is the solo button next to the effect knob supposed to be depressed>? drummer here....im getting a whole new appreciation for sound guys.
@MDTV3
@MDTV3 7 жыл бұрын
Hahaha you should have lead with "I'm a drummer". Yes the SOLO button will send the effects to your headphones, so that could be the confusing factor. Brief summary of what you need to do is, on the channel strip rotate the AUX2FX send effects knob (point it straight up), rotate the AUX2FX send effects knob located under the led display on the effect unit (point it straight up) , now the last knob you need to rotate (this is probably your problem) is the AUX2FX return knob located in the same area (point it straight up). You should now have effects on your main out. For more detail refer to these sections in my videos. Hi, definitely not aimed at beginners, there is a lot of good videos by others for entry level, this video was aimed at those who own this mixer who want to understand how to use it. Mixing in general is a long learning, I've been doing it for years and always learn more all the time.....
