As Nikon release the all new Nikon Z9 mirrorless body and Z400 f/2.8 telephoto lens at a whopping £18k (For the 2) I pondered on who would be buying such items. As a semi pro photographer I am unable to afford them but, the real question is, "Do you need them?"
My honest answer to that question is "NO YOU DO NOT" and the only folk who would disagree are those I refer to as Pixel peekers. I will be sticking with my Nikon D500 and my Nikon F glass 200-500 and 600 f/4, all of which was used to capture the following photographs.
Get to know your gear, there is nothing like going out and using it regularly, invest in the glass and not the camera body as a £5k camera body with a £100 lens will only ever give you £100 shots.
And last but by no means least, shoot in manual mode and if shooting wildlife you absolutely must get the eyes in sharp focus.

Thanks for the lovely comment, the cats are "Summer" and "Benny" they are my new family addition and are Mother and son, Benny is the Black and White fur ball and his Mum is the Black beauty. I watched his Mum give birth to him and 4 others last September. All 4 are doing well in their new homes but I kept Benny with me. The Ginger cat is "Tiger" but he's not mine. Stay well.

Many thanks, good luck with the Z6, I looked at the Z9 but its very expensive and I doubt I'd get any better images, I'd also lose reach as its a full frame camera. I'm sticking with my D500, in fact, I will buy another body as Nikon have now stopped producing them.

Thanks for the comment. Nikon discontinued production of the D500 in February of this year but its still a fantastic camera and I will now get another with a low shutter count for when mine decides to retire.

Very nice video' I Also shoot the Nikon D500 with the 200-500mm f/5.6, But I do know how to create this kind of video!

Thanks, like everything else though making these videos is a learning curve, the best software is Premiere Pro from Adobe but its complicated and now works from a monthly subscription which is EXTREMELY costly so I have moved to Cyberlink 365 which is a yearly plan and much more affordable.

I have D500 & D850 with 500PF and several lenses, but not satisfied and waiting to ordered Z9. Maybe, problem would be my skill or myself, not camera> I realized that when I saw your pictures.

I doubt that the Z9 will be the solution in honesty. Thanks for the kind words though and yes I think your equipment is excellent but you maybe need to get out more often and use it more. The only solution is daily use as that is the learning curve. I also only shoot in manual mode which is the best way to capture any image. If you get anything better with the Z9 then let me know as I'd be interested in your findings. I'm sticking with my D500 as the Z9 offers nothing I want other than a silent shutter. Stay well and good luck.

If you put the two images side by side 99% of people wouldn't even be able to tell them apart unless you blew them up billboard size. Love my D500!

Absolutely spot on, I don't buy into all this nonsense about having to have the latest gear because you will get better images, the only people who buy into this rubbish are those with more money than brain cells.

Beautiful images! As much as I hate to ask a gear question, what's your go to telephoto lens for wildlife? Primarily bird photography? Thanks.
@wildlifesnapper1
@wildlifesnapper1 2 жыл бұрын
Gear questions are good, my go to lens is actually the Nikon 200-500 f/5.6 because it is so versatile and not heavy. I love my Nikon 600mm f/4 but you have to use a tripod and gimbal head which makes it impossible to move around with, so yes, The 200-500 without a doubt.
