Okay, I have to answer Cristine's question about [caffe] lattes in the beginning. Most espresso drinks are still called by their Italian name like latte, cappucino, macchiato, etc. Technically the full name for a latte is "caffe latte" since latte literally translates to milk. So "caffe" is a noun and the following word is almost like an adjective that describes how much milk/foam you want. Some craft coffee places have reverted back to using the full Italian names and many older customers order using the traditional names as well. There have been different waves of coffee culture and at some point during the second waves (80s-early 00s) it became fashionable to abandon the traditional names and proportions of the drinks to make espresso seem more accessible to the average consumer.

Yep. Caffé means coffee. Latte is milk in Italian.

This is mostly right but "caffe latte" simply means "coffee milk". The word "latte" isn't there to explain how much milk you want or anything, the term "caffe latte" is simply saying "I want coffee with frothed milk". This term is used (and is very useful) for Americans in Italy so they don't walk in ordering a "latte" and end up with a glass of milk or a cup of warm frothed milk.

@@mars7612 I have been a barista for 5 years at various craft coffee places and there are indeed distinct proportions for all espresso drinks, especially ones that originated in Italy like the macchiato and cappuccino.

@@chrissyhallaman5908 Omg 😂 I'm a barista too and I'm from Europe. Nowhere in my comment was I talking about whether or not proportions are used in espresso drinks. What I'm saying is that the term in itself, "caffe latte", has nothing to do with proportions. It's literally two words: "coffee" and "milk". None of which have to do with proportions or are used to describe proportions.

so the reason that dry and liquid measuring cups are usually separate is because dry is based on mass and liquid is based on volume! dry measuring cups, the scoops, are made to be filled to the brim that you then level off before pouring out. with some dry ingredients youre supposed to press and pack them into the cup, and with others you dont pack them and are (supposed to) sift them afterwards to re-aerate them. you dont level off liquids because they level themselves out, so a liquid measuring cup doesnt go all the way to the top, and they usually have lips on them to make it easier to pour out the liquid vs trying to pour, carry, and pour out of a dry measuring scoop. the more you know!

So annoying when a recipe calls for something like a specific number of packed cups of flour, that you sift. Like what. It's so much easier to weigh your ingredients, and if you're daring enough, you can just add ingredients directly to the bowl lol no measuring cups required

Cinnamon is somewhat hydrophobic, so you can't just dump it all in at once or it will clump like that. You either have to dust it a little bit at a time, blend it within an inch of its life, or mix it with a fat first.

We use the glass measuring cup for liquids because it has a spout and is easier to pour out, but a metal/plastic measuring cup works fine, just potentially more spillage :D

Pumpkin thing is also good for dog digestion. My dog had poop problems so our vet suggested it before any medication and he was okay. Now he gets a some bit eat day

So today’s episode is “Leaves vs Seeds” which is better. Me personally I love both! It’s how I prefer each prepared that’s the difference. So many variations for making coffee..just as much as tea. Also when ⏰ is the right time for which..it depends on your emotions..some emotions require tea and some coffee. In the end the important thing is to have a good supply of each and enjoy the experience!

Hate coffee but love tea. I drink it cold in the warmer weather and hot in the colder weather. I love suggling up with a warm blanket and a hot cup of tea.

This is why in culinary school, they very rarely ever use measuring cups. They only use grams and ml (mostly grams tbh) and measuring spoons sometimes. Since cups measurements aren’t accurate for dry ingredients.

About the measuring cup versus measuring spoons debate I’d say that it is because in the cup you can easily pour wet ingredients (like milk) and with the spoon you can easily spoon the dry (like flour in a bag) since it’s smaller and has a handle😂 sounds pretty logical to me, I don’t know why it was such a surprise to be fair😂😂

It's the westernized way we took over the words . When Americans started making lattes they only really had people into coffee on the go. Tea drinkers didn't need that shit (think the die hard brits). We had to add the prefix of tea so we knew the difference. It's the same as people saying chia tea. Chia means tea in Hindi.

I tried a Starbucks PSL for the first time yesterday and it was underwhelming, it tasted a bit like medicine, the iced version with full fat milk and extra shot of strong espresso was a lot better though, the fatty milk and stronger coffee disguised the medicinal taste 😅

I'm sure this has been explained already, but if not: The reason, Cristine, to why one "should" use plastic or glass to measure liquid, and metal for dry ingredients, is because many liquids react with metal in one way or another. How depends on the liquid. So because the measuring cup/dl etc for dry ingredients are just round, as they aren't made for measuring and pouring liquids and therefor don't have a spout, one is 1000% more likely to spill the liquid when using those :) (All my measuring devices are plastic tho 'cause I'm poor lol and it's cheaper, so this isn't me saying you have to use either glass or metal at all, just answering from C&B's perspective) Btw also, sugar is technically a liquid, not a dry ingredient. But straight from the bag/box it's easier to use the measurement for dry ingredients, 'cause sugar isn't liquid before mixed or heated. Hope that detail made things only a bit more confusing heh

You can blend until the end of time but cinnamon especially doesn't dissolve or break down in liquid and so will always leave a gritty sediment in the bottom of your cup. Starbucks pumpkin spice syrup probably uses a cinnamon flavour rather than having actual ground cinnamon in it. That is not a failing on the part of Cristine or the recipe, just a feature of ground cinnamon.

as someone who study culinary stuff, no, it doesnt matter if you even messure water (ml) in gr. the same with the cup, what its difficult its when people put example "a stick of butter" and exist so many different sticks of butter, 65gr 120gr like that lmao

Yes, and you don't even have to study culinary to know 100 ml of pure water is exactly 100 grams 😀for other liquids it would be different, they have different density.

For the latte debate. I think it’s that a Latte is a coffee drink BUT it can be made with tea but since that’s not normal they refer it to a tea latte. It’s not that tea drinkers are special I would argue it’s the opposite. It’s a latte but better 😂
