First Aid Trained person from Australia and big raccoon fan here: really glad to see Bill providing assistance to the choking raccoon in the right way. We're taught in here in Australia that you alternate between slapping someone's back and chest in an upwards motion when they're choking, and heimlich isn't taught here because of the danger of injury it poses to the person performing the heimlich. We don't have raccoons here, but to be fair we're not taught to provide CPR to anything but humans either. Evidently, what works for people works for raccoons too.

Yeah, I know the jokes are fun...not questioning that. (An aside - we often call two-legged dragons wyvern, to distinguish them.) Thing is, we actually do occasionally have multiple-headed animals in the real world. Snakes and lizards with two heads (twins that didn't split fully) are not extremely rare in zoos, and it does sometimes happen with humans. Most examples in the wild would die quickly, however. There's more biological precedence for extra heads than there is for extra limbs, though I can't imagine how it would be useful enough to be repeated. The four-limb model goes back to really early fish and became a hard-set rule among vertebrates. We'd sooner lose all limbs, (snakes again) than sprout an extra pair of arms, legs or wings. Dragons are generally ancient as a species in lore, but something with six limbs would have to be constructed by a wizard. A natural world including them should be FAR more strange and alien than LotR or GoT. Yes, invertebrates can have many limbs, but that's so far separated in biology that we'd never call that a dragon.

I mean..."Animals" is a broad term. And that term is divided by "classes" for a reason. For example, "vertebrates" are divided into fish, amphibians, reptiles, birds and mammals. "Arthropods" _(like your example)_ are divided into insects, millipedes, crustaceans, arachnids and an extinct species - the trilobites. But would we consider them all to be the same? And...where exactly do dragons fit in? Are they Reptiles? Amphibians? Both would already be a different class than the "Arthropodes".

@sithalo
@sithalo Ай бұрын
The issue is like his mistake in calling Pteradons dinosaurs, he made the mistake of saying animal instead of vertebra. And even then there may be a few niche cases. There are some ancient fish which may have had 6 flippers that may have counted as 6 limbs. The Coelacanth has 6 fins but someone did argue that the back 2 dont count because while the first 4 mirror each other the back 2 dont. I dunno how fair that is or not but he was just wrong to say animal when he should have said vertebrate. And even then, his dragons can also fly but for a realistic dragon to fly it needs to have gigantic wingspans much larger than his.

@@VoltisArt "What dragon looks like it's more related to insects than bats, birds or lizards?" - You *DO* know that dragons don't actually exist, right? I'm just checking because you seem awfully invested in this argument, based on this and at least one other comment thread. You also DO know that the Earth has existed for billions of years, right? There could have been countless species of all forms that came into being, existed, went extinct, and turned to dust within that time frame. You're trying to make conclusive statements about a mythical animal using (astronomically-speaking) recent history as your only basis.

I always thought Keith was a sexy name. Same with Kevin until someone ruined it (long before recent memetics). I guess for me there's a silver lining in having been teased mercilessly in 3rd and 4th grade for having a name no one else had or knew (after moving thousands of miles). May spare me from ever being unfortunate in the same way a few of the more commonly named (in the USA), have been lately. P.S. Luckily I watched Star Trek as a kid and oddly/erroneously figured out that if I did something seemingly similar to what "Spok" did, I could stop a "bad guy" too. After stealthily getting behind any of the boys that teased me, I could put him on his knees. And keep him there. That slowly put a stop to the teasing. A smaller girl with her hands gripping trapezius muscles of a boy on the playground, with him on his knees whimpering, apparently sends a memorable message. I know I talked about putting boys on their knees with a "Spock grip"? LOL I can recall that, but not anything else I added in this thread. Fifty years ago I wasn't exactly pleased about being teased, but I certainly haven't been bothered about it since. And actually, my name has since then always been spontaneously identified (by people I meet), with something very pleasant and positive - as a trick to remember it. Everyone thinks of the same thing, it's amusing. Idk why, but throwing dirt clods strikes me as a violent a reaction to being teased, whereas what I was doing seemed to me to be a relatively subtle, subdued, and quiet way to make my perspective on the matter clear. 😆😇😂😆🤣 As for my YT moniker, that's not what I was referring to last time. I didn't identify my name, only alluded to it. Not in the habit of sharing that privy info. It's sort of adorable you seem to have thought I meant "sparky".
