Maybe it’s just me, but Steve and Ryan seem to have this ultimate brotherhood kinda bond. I’m not a hunter, so maybe it’s a common theme amongst hunters. Seems hunters have this high level of respect for each other. It’s definitely a different kind of friendship.

Oh wow, thanks for bringing that to my attention. Callaghan is packing a recurve. I didn't realise he was going to shoot mutton😅 with it. It's an unreasonable call. Anything that's not lamb is pretty much considered mutton, which is mature sheep meat. Any meat you'll buy from a sheep is labelled lamb these days, because nobody buys mutton, and it has a reputation of coming from old sheep. It's kind of untrue and unfair. But the label has stuck. I'm in Australia, where lamb is fairly often consumed. Less so nowadays, given the current expense, but people really like it. Grilled lamb chops or oven cooked lamb roast were frequent delights when I was a growing up.

The polynesian brought their pigs about 1000 years ago but interestingly the early written accounts from naturalists (1779 onwards) in hawaii described forests without any 4 legged animals. About 40 years later in 1820 is the first mention of there being wild pigs and even then they are mentioned as being limited in localities. By the mid 1800s, most the main islands had expanding populations of feral pigs. New genetic evidence is coming out on the breed admixture present.

Loved the episode. Would be nice of yall to shine on some of the issues on hunting in Hawaii. Little to no game management on public lands. The hunting looks incredible on some very exclusive private properties. But for those without that luxury, its almost like the wild west with not much hunting opportunities left in the very near future.

The diversity you see in Hawaii in regard to the feral species is the same here in Australia. Any domestic animal you can imagine is now wild and thriving here, destroying our native flora and fauna. You should come film a short series here I reckon. Down south you can hunt the elusive sambar deer, Hog Deer on Snake Island, the big reds and fallow as you move up the coast, scrub bulls and banteng, Sika and Rusa up the tip of Queensland and camels in the red centre. The pigs, goats, sheep and rabbits, not to mention foxes, wild cats and wild dogs are found absolutely everywhere. Potentially if you're lucky, you may get to help take out a problem moster salty croc. The Aussie hunting community would absolutely love to host you. Hope this comment somehow makes it to you, Steve. Cheers fellas. M
@mkwa8870
@mkwa8870 7 ай бұрын
I forgot to mention... all those animals I listed were introduced by humans! Either escapees from agriculture, released to the wild for people to hunt, or released just for the 'fun' of it. There's not a single hooved species native to Australia. On that note, we also have a massive number of feral horses, or 'brumbies' as we call them. They cause severe environmental issues, but people still fight for their 'safety'. Theres been a few larger scale culls the last few years. For any hunter, its open season on literally everything but ducks (and you gotta draw a ballot for Hog Deer down south)

I went on a family vacation years ago to Hawaii. One of the last days we were there we went hiking to various waterfalls. My uncle and i found what we thought were macadamia nuts along the way so we started cracking them open and eating them. I had about a dozen. Turns out they were in fact not macadamia nuts, but we’re Kukui nuts…. Long story short, i shit my brains out twice at ever airport all the way back from Hawaii to Georgia.
