My favorite one is 75% layout :D. Good enough for both working and gaming, also lighter and more convenience for travelling or sitting on a small table with narrow space just enough to fit a laptop and the keyboard. From my personal opinion and experience :D

Very nice rundown of keyboard sizes and layouts. I have loved using 60% boards, but I'm moving up to 65%. I really need dedicated arrow and delete keys. For me, 65% is the sweet spot. No matter what keyboard I do most of my typing on, I always have a Keychron K4 right under my. iMac screen. It's the mothership with all the keys.

thanks for the description video. i just learned there's more out there then a "standard" keyboard. and with having short fingers for one i've always had to reach for keys like the F row and its not really comfortable when trying to reach the ctrl key so im looking at trying to find either a smaller kb or find a ergo type keyboard as i feel like that might be better.

@gca_22
@gca_22 8 ай бұрын
My first mk was a cheap TKL. I thought I'd miss the numpad, but seeing as my work laptop didn't have one as well I got used to it fairly quickly. Now that said TKL started to fail (problems with the board) I bought a higher quality 75%. It's the sweet spot for me, i couldn't go any smaller. It's fairly compact and works perfectly for my needs.

I find that I very rarely use the number keypad, and the F# keys. The "function" keys were introduced by IBM in the models F and M for the PC, the intent was to provide dedicated hot keys that could be assigned by application software for fast access to menu items. These keys are also used by the OS (usually with the CTL or ALT keys, leaving the unshifted and shifted function keys to the user application). I could adjust to having to press the Fn key along with a top row number key to access the function keys for the few times I need to use them. However, I DO use the arrow keys often. So I like the 65% layout that moves the arrow cluster into the main key mass with the insert though page down (6 keys) on the right side vertically. Perhaps squeeze the delete key next to the back space, or even shift the delete function onto a lower layer of the backspace. THAT would be my ideal layout. For now, I'm using an old IBM TKL model M, but it's almost as large or larger than some mechanical full size keyboards (such as the Corsair K70, and I have a used one of those on order from ebay with Cherry Blues). A "compressed" TKL would also be a good compromise, just enough space on my desktop for something that large if necessary.
