Been worried since last night about not understanding how the arrows in the FBD corresponds to if we are taking (x1-x2) or (x2-x1). I finally understood. Thank you so much!! This made me so happy :D

I don't get the reaction forces in M2 especially the LHS of M2. Edit - Always use the reaction force when trying to establish the equation hence the equation for the second mass is wrong. It 's opposite.

Thanks for this nice video. A question: If you have assumed that the mass M2 does not move (2:55), then why We should have Fs3 and Fd3? the spring 3 should be in rest (neither compressed nor elongated), unless it was already preloaded.

Great question. I think he said it to make understanding better, but it is not exactly correct, actually we assume that x1>x2, therefore spring is in compression. Also x1_dot > x2_dot is the assumption for damper eqns.

Do you have MATLAB code to solve this?

How are the forces on left side for mass 2 acting towards the mass? Shouldn't it be the other way?

Is it because when M1 moves to the right, it compresses the k2 and d2, which causes the spring and damper to exert a force on both the sides, ie force on the left and right?

Right??? Thats what makes sense to me.

Sir why the fs2 and fd2 has positive direction?
