Fixed. Mechanical ✅Durability. ✅Long Range ✅Edge Retention ✅Initial Sharpness

I like your take on the cost over multiple seasons. In states like GA where you can take 12 deer a year not counting bonus bucks you could easily spend more in 1 season on mechanicals than a good fixed blade.

As an elk guide, I've seen more animals lost to mechanical broadheads. Therefore, fixed all the way. My preferred fixed is the Muzzy Trocar. Good all the way to 80 yards. Complete pass through on my bull elk at that distance. Great video!

Great video. I bought my brother a set of Iron Will broadheads for being a good brother and had them engraved with his nickname (DeerPig). They are a marvel of engineering but I use the QAD Exodus. Glad I found your channel - you are just what archery needs: young, smart advocates who can communicate the witchery of archery to other young people. Just from my personal experience, I have harvested 11 white tails since 2015, first 8 with ocd fixed Broadhead, 90% full pass through and recovered arrow. This season I used rear deploying mechanical broadheads and not full pass throughs on all 3. Which 2 arrows broke out of 3 when recovered deer. All shots under 20yards. Also I noticed myself that I was more hesitant to retrieve a backup arrow and took more time to get it out of quiver worrying that it would snap the rubber washer and didn’t like that. I think I will stay fixed. But did look at 1 3/4” fixed heads but would not fit but a few in quiver(Mathew’s quiver) only sideways. Just a note for you wanting to go really wide on fixed. Make sure they will fit in quiver. Nice video makes since.

Like someone else pointed out its nice to see and hear a young man like yourself preaching facts that make sense. I have killed my share of deer and antelope with mechanicals and didn't have any issues, but my bows were always tuned ! I also practiced constantly with them. I feel 90% of rage/ mechanical hunters use then because they don't have well tuned setups and hence the failure rates. I killed my first deer with a Puckett bloodtrailer a piston style mechanical! I also loved the muzzy 90 grain 4 blade and killed many with them. I was a rocket broadheads guy and probably killed the most deer with them and never did they fail me. I still have a soft spot for them. Now I shoot ramcats and some single bevels also there are many great heads out there and John Lusk tests them better then anyone! Keep up the great job you are doing!

Fixed broadheads are the natural evolution of the original hunters and their arrowheads. Because they don't need to open there's no risk of mechanical failure. And from some of the footage I've seen they have much better pass through than most mechanicals. Sometimes mechanicals open up in flight or don't open up all the way. Fixed broadheads for the win!

Completely agreed with your video. However, i had to move to a crossbow and due to some clearance issues i have stepped away from the Iron Will wide heads. I love them but found them extremely difficult to tune. I have started shooting the Sevr Robusto. So far i have found them to be very durable. Honestly i would rather shoot the Iron Will's but cannot trust them to fly accurate. Also before someone blames the bow i can spend a lot of time tinkering and shoot Magnus Black Hornet Serazor accurate to 100 yards but it is a lot of tinkering to get 2 arrows to fly the same.

Even with the cheapest of broad heads, if you do your part and make a good shot, they will work just fine. I am a mechanical shooter personally, but I definitely don’t knock a good fixed blade. I’ve ran the rage trypan, the slick trick raptor trick, and this season I’m running the SEVR 1.75. Whenever I put my arrow where it needs to be, it’s always a short recovery. I feel like consistent practice and shot placement is the key to success more so than what head is attached to your arrow. If you can’t constantly hit your target, then what’s it matter what head is attached..

I feel that both are good, a great mechanical is just as good as a great fixed they will both have their strong suits it’s just about having the confidence in your gear but no argument on the durability of a good fixed it will out last a mechanical 9 times out of 10 but if you’re hitting your target properly the mechanical shouldn’t give you issues
@PrivilegedBowhunter
@PrivilegedBowhunter Жыл бұрын
Can’t always hit your target properly is the problem. Something that will help when you mess up may come in handy. Even the best archers in the world don’t always hit where they’re aiming. Plus the animal will move, it’s only a matter of time before you have bad shot placement.

Both have their place. Definitely choose a high quality product in either case. I shot turkeys and deer with several fixed heads with good results, and I shot a deer with a Grim Reaper mechanical this year with good results and an amazing blood trail. I really like the forgiveness of the mechanicals, but I always broadhead tune with a big fixed blade.

New follower. I shoot mechanicals but have only shot grim reapers and it will be the only mechanicals I will ever shoot. They are the only heads I have found that when you blow through a deer the blades will still be sharp as long as it doesn’t burry into the sand. Their fixed blades can shave out of the box and their mechanicals can get a hair out two. I have some I have used for 3 years and still easily resharpen and just re-stretch the springs out and I’m good to go.

I’ve used both and have tested both a ton in the last 6 plus years. They both will kill. I like fixed too, but I prefer my megameats or sevr’s. Never any issues. And have used them on multiple deer with zero problems. You can’t just assume fixed heads are better because some cost more. To each is own, but I know from my personal testing what has lasted and what hasn’t. Iron will’s are great heads too. But again, lots of great heads out there that will get the job done.
@PrivilegedBowhunter
@PrivilegedBowhunter Жыл бұрын
Blade durability, sharpness out of the package, edge retention, flight characteristics and reuse ability are what formed my opinion. I didn’t “assume fixed heads are better because some cost more.” I do agree that many heads will get the job done, but it’s a fact that A2 tool steel is better quality material than whatever thin stuff rage and pretty much every other mechanical is made of.
@Foreverbowhunting84
@Foreverbowhunting84 Жыл бұрын
@@PrivilegedBowhunter Yeah I get what you are saying. I just know from testing and experience what will kill, and what will last. I’m not here to argue about Broadhead’s. I just find it funny how a lot of people think if you’re not shooting a 600 grain arrow with an iron will head, or tuff head, they can’t kill deer. That’s definitely not the case. I’ve harvested 5 deer already this season, and all 5 were with a Mechanical head, and not a rage either. And I was able to re sharpen and use that head on another deer afterwards. I also seen that animal go down within 30-50 yards. Blood trail was good too. I guess I just see it as, you build the arrow to whatever your hunting. You don’t need a 600-800 grain arrow to kill a whitetail. But I am pretty sure we all know that. Lol

What I don't understand is people who say they keep both mech and fixed in the quiver. Most people barely have the K.E. to operate a mechanical halfway decent at moderate shot lengths. Since I was 13 years old in 1963 I’ve always used fixed. On everything I shoot. Never saw any reason to even try any mechanical. I tune to 80 but have never shot a meat animal past 33 yards. Most of my hunting rigs over many years has been 55 to 60#’s at 28”. Back in the day I had no idea of tuning or arrow weight and speed. Then along came technology and science. For what it’s worth, I now know all the numbers. Don’t know how relevant they are because I was killing deer before most of you were even born. Fixed blades are the way to go.
