I’ve used 1/4” clear tubing to connect to the nipple on the brake bleeder. It works very well because you can see when it runs dirty dark to clear clean. U can find it at the plumbing section at Home Depot. Also Scotty sounds like he’s about to do the hokey pokey at 2:38 lol

I use the same method with the clear plastic hose but I simply leave the lid a little bit loose on the master cylinder and the brake fluid gravity feeds when the bleed valve is opened. No need for the screw driver or a second person. It pays to keep an eye on the fluid level in the master cylinder as I generally have to fill it more than once to complete the job.

Kevin, the clear tubing is worth the delay before proceeding. I used a clean jar with a hole in the lid, filled with 8oz to pump the brakes alone. Also used similar technique to prime or bleed a new master cylinder installed dry on the firewall, instead of playing with bench bleeding it.

Not true. If all four tires are on, and you have clearance, what's the worst that could happen? The jack falls, but you don't get crushed because it simply falls on the tires. The reason for the jack is just to give you a little more space to work.

Another tip. Avoid over filling. Brake fluid compensates for pad wear. Some people will top off their fluid with half worn pads. When you replace the pads that fluid gets pushed back to the master cylinder causing it to overflow and eat all the paint off your firewall. Unless you have a leak you probably shouldn't be adding fluid between brake jobs as long as it's safely above the minimum level. I worked as a lube and oil guy for a long time and people would routinely complain if their brake fluid wasn't topped to maximum level and I would have to explain this frequently. If you are changing the fluid like this video suggests pay attention to the fluid level beforehand. If you're bleeding your brakes of course you will need to monitor the level during the process.

Make sure that screwdriver is set really tight because when you open the bleeder, the pedal will sink a bit and potentially cause the screwdriver to drop. If the screwdriver drops, the pedal will reset and suck air into the line.

I bleed my system starting from back to front and from right to left. the kit from autozone provides a self bleeding kit for the master cylinder, but you still need to do all your 4 wheels. I even turn my front wheels as you recommended. The only difference from you video is that i use a human screw driver ...LOL.. He just push the pedal and i release the drain plug...until he reach bottom, then i close the drain. Thanks Scotty for you help.

Great, thanks. Wasn't sure if I could bleed my own brakes with ABS on my 1996 Ford Ranger. Might have shown how to do this a LOT easier/quicker/lots less under car, inside, repeat if you can find a friend. Have windows open so you can communicate. Then have them press (not super hard, but firmly) on the brake while you open the bleeder, when to bottom have them shout BOTTOM (and HOLD it there!). Close bleeder and shout RELEASE, THEN PRESS AGAIN. When pressed, they shout "PRESSING" and you open the bleeder again. Repeat. SO much easier with two than one but good to know you can do it by yourself. RichE San Diego, CA

Nice Scotty, and a timely reminder for me and my 12 y.o. Honda CRV .... especially since you're doing it on a Honda too. Many years back I bled brakes on my Sunbeam Alpine, Jag X-KE, several Datsuns, and some older Hondas. Now it is no longer second nature, and some reminding is helpful. I still have an old bleeder helper tool with one-way valve, tubing, and cup. If I can avoid emptying the reservoir (and thus introducing air), it should eliminate 20-some trips to move the big screwdriver, or me yelling at some confused helper that doesn't know up from down pedal. Doing the screwdriver/ seat/ brake pedal dance without missing any steps could be more than I can handle. Getting up and down from under the car that many times at my age might avoid a pro mechanic, but could require emergency medical attention. lol

ahmad mohd yes. The fluid gets dirty over time and the power steering pump can put out over 1500 psi. Any major dirt in the system can slice right through the rubber hoses at that kind of pressure. It doesn’t need to be done all that often. Every 5-7 years probably. Soon it won’t be much an issue though because electric steering is becoming the norm

Mostly it's their way to make money for the dealership and authorized maintenance facilities. Brake system now are almost always from Bosh. Standards on brakes are strict so you can just use the recommendation of Scotty unless you live in very hilly area, so your brake fluid is under a lot of stress. There just a little bit of moisture can be dangerous.

@x x No, more like getting a heart replacement from someone dying of leukemia. Not sure how you can tell akibono pads from others once used, however, and a LOT of work pulling things apart until you find 'em to save not a whole lot but if it works for David, great. When I was young, I noticed my brake shoes (yes, shoes) on my 1972 Valiant were worn (had been replaced once). But unlike typical shoes where the pads in front (that stop you going backwards) are smaller, they were the same size as the others and practically new still. So I swapped 'em and drove for another long time for no cost for the shoes. RichE San Diego, CA

Well he was wrong about bleeding--- You always start from the closest first (front left wheel).. and work your way to the furthest.
@calholli
@calholli 4 жыл бұрын
@Agosto Ceilings No... think about it... Say there are bubbles in the lines.... When start from the farthest away, there will always still be bubbles between you and the master --- and when you start bleeding the others, their bubbles can still get pushed back into that furthest brake again.. Where as, when you start from the closer brake--- you will then have a perfectly clean line between the master and that first wheel-- then when you move to the second wheel-- there are no more bubbles ahead of you... and you just keep progressing that clean, undivided flow further and further away, until your last bubbles are pushed out of the furthest point away, from beginning to end.
@lar7905
