Originally, this very same car probably sold for under $6,000. The broadcast sheet and the original window sticker would prove it. Now it goes for 3.5 M? That is absolutely insane.

No more than $150,000 if your car is in excellent condition. Too many factors met this Hemi-Cuda. Perhaps on 2019 you could get more money for your Firebird, but it is very hard to predict. At this moment $100,000 is a very good money for your car. Again, if your car is very well conserved.

I saw about 8 months ago a guy driving one of these going over the Brooklyn Bridge. I was able to get next to him and said, I cannot believe you are driving this thing around!!! He told me, hey, what's the point of having it, if you can't show it off on occasion! Much respect to that guy, and that sentiment !

There was only 2 of these sold in North America, this is one of them, the other one is in a car museum. It was definitely a clone. I've seen many very nice hemi cuda clones through the years, I actually own one myself. They are nearly identical to this car, just not real hemi cars from the factory. No big deal, they're still awesome and still very valuable. I couldn't imagine driving a $3.5 million car, but my $95k clone? Yup, she's getting driven all summer long.

You're buying a memory here. This is a car that belongs in a museum as an icon of a decadent era, where working men (most of the guys who bought these were just working dudes) went to the drag strip on the weekend, or tore up the main street of their home town in stoplight races. These days the working man can't afford the new muscle cars, and they can't afford to lose their car, license and insurance for drag racing. Truly a time gone forever, and that car is a little piece of the great memories of a carefree time. BTW, as the 60s and 70s generation grows older and since the new muscle cars eclipse their ancestors, you can expect the value of these to actually drop over the next few decades. Newer generations don't have the same fondness for them that the older generation does.

Solamente 11 1971 Plymouth Cuda 426 HEMI CONVERTIBLES fueron fabricados. De los 11 carros, 7 quedaron en los EEUU y los otros 4 se fueron para otros paices. Este modelo tiene la transmicion de 4 velocidades del HURST. Solo 2 fueron fabricados con esta transmissicion y el 426. El carro esta meticulosamente preservado. Casi nunca se ven estos carros al publico. Y ademas, no se sabe quien son los duenyos de los 11. Los del anyo anterior 1970 son muy pocos tambien. Jose, carros convertibles valen mas que los hard tops. El Plymouth y el Dodge son de la compania del Chrysler.

Ya the car we had in the 60s and 70s as teens and 20s yrs olds if we had only would have had crystal ball. Didn't had the crystal ball but did have lot's of fun and good times . wouldn't trade that part of my life for what the same age group had in the 80s 90s or 2000s but I do love my new hell cat no more 150+ on the street now day .I go to the track more fun than jail

I almost bought a 71 Cuda 340 when I was 20 back in the 80's. He wanted 2900(2 thousand 900). Super clean car too. RED with black interior and A/C too. It's like the girl you wanted to marry but she said no. C'est la vie.

I would honestly live in it. That is a car that dreams are made in. Every young kid that gets to have a ride in it will fall in love with muscle cars. Even in 2022 the Hemi is still leading pack.

There was something in the face of the man who sold the car that spoke of regret. For most of these guys it's owning that something special that somehow reclaims a part of their youth, makes them relevant again. They already have money so it becomes more about regaining something they feel is slipping away from them as they grow old. They're like big kids with the coolest bike in the neighborhood that all the other kids want. Part of him died inside when he sold it that the money could never possibly replace.

Likely many of these were driven in rust belt winters and succumbed to structural damage. Leaf springs popping through the trunk floor, torsion bar mounts breaking off and letting the front end crash to the bump stops. Chrysler cars of that era rusted very quickly.

My first car back in 1978 was a 1968 Barracuda. I babysat my nephew's and niece multiple times and my brother gave it to me when I was 15. On my 16th birthday I was driving legally. Not many kids in Detroit were driving their own car at 16. The fun I had in that fastback with my girlfriend. Great memories!

BH23 only you have the rest of the VIN. I had one as a hand me down. Folks bought it new in 1968 for 3 grand. Car came from Hamtramck. Beautiful car with a vinyl top and floor shifter. Took lots of photos before I sold it.

I sold a restored nbrs matching 1970 FY1 lemon twist with black interior, original pistol grip 4 speed, rim blow, rubber bumper 'Cuda convertible (1 of 63) with all documents including build sheet and original Shaker added back in 2012 for 60k which I bought for 8K in 1990. I loved the car for all those years and drove it to shows having a blast top down cruising. Not a trailer queen but extremely clean and presentable. Nash bridges tv series brought back the notoriety of the Cuda. Before then not many people were aware of this beautiful and rare Muscle car.

Well, I was about to spew shit about muscle cars being over the hill, but apparently another 4sp Hemi 'Cuda ordered new by a Frenchman got up to 4.8 mil but the buyer wanted 6. -_- These old 13 second cars are not worth this money for performance by a long shot. They have looks and if you grew up with old V8s then they have sound, but I get the feeling that these billionaires are only chasing clout. Another trading card to add to their deck. For 3.5 million dollars, you could buy multiple cars, make all of them cooler, AND build a shelter for them.

We used to go to NY State drinking when we were 16. Yeah I know, in the little town of Ripley Any there was a Plymouth dealership that somehow managed to get 3 or 4 Plymouth Superbirds for sale new. I never did stop and look but those things sat on that lot for a couple years before they finally sold them. Why wasn't I paying attention.

My brother bought a '70 BARRACUDA Gran Coupe new..only 334 units made. The "luxury" cuda with leather int and chrome bumpers (not those body color plastic pos) They came with either a 335hp 383 4bbl or a 390h.p. 440 with either a 4bbl or 6pak. His had the 383 with the Hurst pistol grip. Paid $2,700.00 NEW. I learned to drive stick on that car :-) Wish I had it today

I knew someone that had one. Guy in Oregon where I used to live. I don't think it was one from this year, but it was a convertible Cuda. It was a basket case, didn't run, was rusted pretty bad all over, interior was toast, looked like it had been pulled right out of a junk yard. In that condition he paid about 80k for it. After spending all that money he couldn't pay for his house, and it was either the car or the house so he sold it for a little more than what he paid for it since he had started working on it. He had about 8 other cars, original 1st model Dart that had the fins, 2 Chargers, a challenger, and I forget what else...

My wife and I stayed at a Motel 6 in the Seattle area back in about 1987 and we saw this car in the parking lot and I took a picture of it that I still have. The license plate read "HEMI RAG" Who knew back then. I have always been a car guy and I kinda knew how rare it was but I never could have dreamed that it would fetch this kinda $$$$

I'm a mechanic and I have a wealthy client that owns a Mecum rebuilt muscle car purchased at a well know auction site. He was having some problems with the car soon after purchase, within approximately 1000 miles, and it fell to me to repair the vehicle. It was supposedly totally restored and gone through by Mecum. During my work I found numerous short cuts and half-assed rinky-dink bs repairs made throughout the vehicle. Both the owner and I were surprised. I advise you to have a competent inspection by a third party before buying one of these cars.

I make my living fixing and finishing restorations. There is a lot of nice looking junk out there, mostly coming from auctions. There is a museum near me that sells "restored" cars. I dont want to say the name but they are located in Volo Illinois. Ive made a lot of money fixing perfectly restoredcars that came from there

I had the job at 18 working in a Chrysler Plymouth dealership in Kansas city,i was told by the boss to roadtest every vehicle prior to the sale,this was a very good job for me,there were many of these that went thru the dealership,the cudas sold like lce on a hot day,most of our customers wanted the 440 6 pack,but a few doctors and lawyers bought the hemi,there will not be anymore of these made or reproduced,if it were so ,where are they,i read where a dentist paid almost 4.3 million for the very first hemi challenger off the line,it was the 16th car constructed,value is in the eye of the beholder,paper money for a rare car,its only money,buy what makes you happy,same as the summer of 1969,the sound of those cars in the shop idling,PRICELESS

i remember going to car cruises in rochester ny in the 80s. A plum crazy auto. Hemi Cuda convert. owned by Drake Automotive s to show up once in a while. It was 1 of 7. beautiful car. there was also a hemi Roadrunner in the same family that would show with it.

I own a '73 Cuda with a well balanced, purpose-built 383. A drag car before I owned it. It's my first Mopar, and I can honestly say I'm addicted to the big block power! The 340 is an awesome powerplant. They can be built any way you like. For this guy? I gotta have the neck snapping torque of a big block! It's how I always envisioned the muscle car era. Stoplight, to stoplight.

one thing that has always intrigued me about the Mopar musclecars is, unlike most GM and Ford musclecars, you see most of the Mopar ones with plain painted wheels and law car hubcaps..I wonder why? You'd have thought they would have come up with some trick-looking chromed steel styled wheels...

The factory only made 14 of these as I recall. You could have a very convincing clone built for 1/20 of the price, or buy the parts and do it yourself for 1/50 the price. Worth it for an original? If someone pays it, it's worth it, at least to them.

Just 11 Hemi Cuda convertibles were built for the 71 with only 2 of them being delivered in the US with the pistol grip 4 speed manual. This is the only one in existence that is a numbers matching. The other is still in existence but with a period correct 426 hemi and not the original

My wife's uncle, in his 80s now, was an electrical engineer for Chrysler. As an employee he could buy a new car direct from Chrysler for cost. He still has the last car he bought as an employee. He was featured on a tv show along with two young guys about 10 years ago. The show got the two guys to get down and smoke the tires, do some donuts, have a good time. When they got back to uncle they asked him to do the same. His response? "You don't have enough money". His car? A 1970, dodge charger, dukes of hazard orange. Black bucket seats, 4 speed, 440, all factory original, matching numbers, no scratches, factory wheels. Less than 40k documented miles. Then another one of her uncles just sold his car to a collector in dallas. The collector sent a crew of 4 to retrieve the car. A 1960 all original 'vette convertible.

If I remember right, 71-4spd. New wife, kid on the way, part time job, I couldn't buy it. I KNEW at that moment was mistake to say no. We rode in it to lunch, we talked much later after, he'd sold the car. Later I was driving 66 Hemi charger, & 67 Hemi GTX. Being broke sucks, sold em both. Never saw my buddy again, suicide. I'd bet one of those million dollar cars was our lunch car...... I looked at production #'s only 5 made of his

The reason that it sold for so much is because of the "numbers matching" engine and 4 speed transmission. Most of the hemi 'cuda's were blown up or cut up and raced heavily. This car is the pinnacle of muscle cars, nothing could beat it. Those of us who tried to race it would see nothing but tail lights:)

Most Hemi cars are rare because of the engine being nearly 1/4 cost of most Mopar cars available with the Hemi as an option. The 440 V-8 was only about 8% of car cost as an option in comparison. The purchase price could backfire on it's new owners down the line if they bought it to flip it and that's a shame if they bought it just to flip it.

boer harms agree. Over 75 mph the hemi was king. The 440 was just a good for the street to a certain point. Much easier to maintain. Guys with hemis weren't doing the required maintenance. ..426 hemis were solid lifter engines from 1966-1968 . Then they went to hydraulic and it made it much easier....

Maybe it was before 71? I would know a picture of it if I saw it. I had just turned 16 and it was my first car, but it was a lemon, so I traded it in for a 71 Duster. Now that I think about it, I think maybe it was a 67 Cuda? I've never seen a pushbutton auto since. The Cuda was white and pretty plain - wasn't flashy, but I souped up the Duster and dragged it on the 1/4 mile strip. Good ole days...
