Story Time: I RISKED Failing My Med School Exam to go to the Annual Medical Education Conference (AMEC) in Atlanta, GA. Although it was the weekend before my first MAJOR cardiology exam I really wanted to attend the conference. See how things turned out!

I'm a premed student at the University of Akron in Ohio and this video literally gave me chills. The inspiration you gave in this video is definitely going to resonate with me for the rest of my summer semester classes! I'm in a BS/MD program so I'm already provisionally accepted to med school so I also love hearing your stories about med school life because I will be in that position in a few short years.

Advice, how you got those positions, what responsibilities come with them etc. I've been president of associations in high school and I love being involved so I know this is something I'll want to do in college ( I'm a rising HS senior right now) but it just seems so much more daunting in college

I am 27 lol you can totally do it. One motivation for me was a professor from a community college who continuously said you can be in your late 60s and still go to medical school. It's a calling and it doesn't matter when you come. The plus side is that you are more mature than other students and probably gotten more outside experience, which many lack when go to professional schools. All they have known, in most cases, is school. So, if this is your calling, go for it. I document mine on Instagram and you can check it out. My account is Instagram.com/medschoolprep
@justamberreading
@justamberreading 7 жыл бұрын
I am 27 as well and that was a discouragement for me in the beginning but I soon found out I wasn't alone. When I went back to get a second BA, I found that there were a lot more students who were my age and coming back to school as well or started school later for financial reasons or obligations. But even before I started school again, I reminded myself that age doesn't matter. It doesn't! What matters is your determination and motivation to get where you want to go. I've met students who are well in their forties and came back to school and it's so inspiring. They took a break to raise families, work, or for other personal reasons, but the bottom line is, they came back. Since going back, the most challenging thing I've faced so far has been some of my courses that I haven't taken since high school...almost ten years ago lol. So I have to study a little bit more and get extra tutoring just to make sure I am understanding the material. What's great about this is that I met some friends who are willing to join me during my study sessions. One thing about me is that you will always find me in a library when I have the time. I also work two jobs and go to school full-time. As Brittny mentioned, time management is essential to your education and success throughout school, throughout life. Some sacrifices had to be made, like going out every weekend and some family events. It's important to stress to your friends and family about your careers choice because it becomes stressful when they guilt-trip you. But if you explain your schedule and the obstacles you face, they become more understanding. My best advice for you is not to look at your age. You are really young still. I've met older premed and medical students who are way older and they never let it stop them. There isn't an age cap on medical school or any professional schools in general so don't let it get you down. Don't let age be your deciding factor because it will become discouraging and your personal wall. If this is where you are suppose to be and what you really want, kick butt all the way ^_^. I document my journey via Instagram so fill free to hop on and check out my posts. Instagram.com/medschoolprep

amber charles so glad I saw this post!! I'm 26 years old & will have to do a year of post bachelor to finish my prerequisite for medical school. I just graduated in May 2017 & feel so bad for finally feeling that I could possibly handle med school. However, a lot of outsiders say don't do it, it's not worth the time & I will be old when I finish (mid 30s). Everyone (besides my dad & brother) constantly tells me to go to PA school (physician assistant) or become a NP (nurse practitioner). I'm so confused with what path to go! Just going to continue to pray about it! & good luck to everyone with your journey to med school!
@justamberreading
@justamberreading 7 жыл бұрын
Congratulations on graduating!!!! I am happy you are pursuing your passion, no matter what stage of life you are in. Many freak out about their age but I am encouraging them not to. Sometimes we get our calling later on in life and guess what? It is absolutely fine. I was told to consider PA school and nursing as well, most recently but I shut everyone down. It's hard for many to understand why you would want to chose a path that with me lengthy and expensive, however most times it's out of love. They want to make sure you are then care of and will survive and thrive. But if you feel that becoming a doctor is right for you, go for it. I have been in prayer and asking for direction. Faith plays a huge roll in staying focused for me. I would encourage you to sit down one day, or a few, look over your interests, do some research and if you can, get in contact with some people who can be insightful of what it means to go through the journey to doctor. Pray on it and ask God what he has in store for you and to be as clear as day. Don't let others easily influence you. This is your life at the end of the day but also remember they are just concerned as well. Have a plan and pray over it and work on it. You got this! let me know how this goes! ^_^

Hey, Brittny! Thank you for sharing your story with us. I have a hard time finding balance sometimes, but I know to never deprive myself. I would rather, just as you explained, try and have a win-win situation. Even if it means working my booty off to do everything I want to do. Thank you for providing all of us study groupies a perfect example of how we can work hard, and still find balance in life to do the things we enjoy! I am really glad it worked for you, that you believed in yourself, and came out on top! Congrats girl!! That must've felt AWESOME! Would you ever consider doing a "Study with Me" video? I love those videos, and I know I would be really motivated if I had a video like that of you to do my studying to! We would all, in our own fun way, feel like we were studying with you! Does your med school help you financially with taking trips like the one discussed in the vid?
