A social worker appeared at my door one day because 'someone' had accused me of abusing my children. I immediately said, "All of my kids happen to be at home right now. I'll stay where I am while you find them around the house and in the back yard and you can speak with them privately." She wasn't there but a hot minute before she said the 'report of abuse' was obviously bogus. Shortly after that incident, I moved my kids to another state and never spoke to my mother again. Best decision I ever made. I only wish I'd done it sooner.

It's your responsibility as a parent to do what you've got to do for your kids, whether you like it or not. Do I like it that my 9mo son is up sometimes 15 times a night on a bad night and then up at 5am?? Nope!! But that's just the way it is, so it's tough titties, I get up, and we start our day. My mother is exactly like the first mother. The police had been called for so many welfare checks that they would knock, ask how my day was and then as they turned to leave say “see you tomorrow”. This happened every time I had had enough of her being nasty and undermining my parenting and told her I needed to not talk to her. It goes deeper, but it’s been a year since going no contact and I don’t hate her, I am more indifferent to her, but I certainly don’t miss her.

@@aubreymorgan9763 And, to be fair, a young parent could go off to a friends house with a young baby, stay all night, and not be up to anything too terrible. The problem is, she has three other little kids she leaves for her parents to care for. As a mom, it makes me angry because she just isn’t being responsible. The bc failed, you didn’t choose abortion, then if you don’t surrender your kids, you just chose parenting. It ain’t an easy yoke to shoulder, but it’s the path you chose. Don’t like it? It’s no longer your mother and stepdad’s responsibility to fix your life. She suffered all her life from depression and anxiety, but somehow she managed (with her parents help) to pull through and raise us more or less on her own. I still don’t know how she found the courage to do it. She sure didn’t go out all night and lie in bed all day letting someone else do all the work. The daughter needs to cut ties 100% with her mother. It does not matter if it is a coworker, a neighbor, or even a family member if they are not healthy for you to continue a relationship you have the right to cut ties. Boundaries need to be set and when this mother crosses those boundaries the consequences need to be carried through.
