Media Literacy for Kids - Who to trust

This is a special video for parents about 'real' vs 'fake' videos on the internet. It deals with the first principle of media literacy (digital literacy): "Check the source".
Some places on the internet are reliable sources of information, others are not. In order to find out which is which we have to change how we trust.
Trusting with your heart is what people have done since we were cavemen. But that is a disastrous idea on the internet (as the news constantly shows us).
So how do we know what to trust? We have to trust with our MINDS, not our HEARTS. Take the information presented from any source and check it. Find out if information from THAT source is worthy of your trust. The process of teaching your kids to do this (or doing it for themselves until they are old enough) will not only give them 'safe' places on the internet but will teach them the important Media Literacy skills that will help them what is 'real' and what is 'fake'.
Finding out who to trust is only the first step in a much longer journey, that all kids need to take as they grow up to be adults in the age of not only misinformation but DISinformation.

Hey! Comments! Woo-hoo! Normally, I can't have comments because all my videos are marked 'for kids'. So yay! We can talk to each other.

Thank you so much for making this video and for all of your videos. My son started showing an interest in science since before he could walk. He rarely liked shows for little kids, like Sesame Street or Peppa Pig or anything like that. Desperately needing a break, I turned to KZfaq one day and searched "science for kids" and after wading through so much science entertainment that was too loud and fast (and not very informative) we found Science Max. Nearly 2 years later and we watch Science Max or your new videos everyday. We have done probably 75% of the experiments multiple times. He yells "Science!" when he figures something out and can recite Newton's 3rd Law. I'm not exaggerating when I say that you are basically bigger than Elmo or Princess Elsa in our house! I really want to express my gratitude because trying to find good, safe, trustworthy content has been daunting. Unfortunately my science education was lacking growing up and sometimes I feel ill equipped to keep up with my own kid. Your videos, and a handful of others I have found, have been great about explaining the science in a way that engages him while making it easy for me to build on his knowledge through play and experiments. I really don't know what I'd do without these videos! Thank you again for all the work you do, not only in trying to educate children in an entertaining way, but also helping kids become better thinkers. I always say I'm not just raising a kid, I'm raising a brain. Thank you (and other people like you) for helping me in that endeavor. It's a big job!
