Minister in the Presidency, Khumbudzo Ntshaveni says those responsible for the manipulation of the rand will be brought to book. Ntshaveni addressed journalists following a briefing on the cabinet meetings outcomes for meetings held on the 9th and 16th of November. She says that the manipulation of the currency between 2007 and 2013 forms part of efforts by the private sector to collapse the government. Last week, UK-based Standard Chartered Bank reached a settlement with the Competition Commission for colluding with 27 other banks in this regard and agreed to pay around a R43-million fine to resolve the case.

Compliments to SABC for broadcasting this story. As a business owner it’s infuriating finding this out after having to import for the last 13 years, every month, at a crippling cost to keep our business going. I don’t know how this works and open to advice, but would honestly like to join a class action suit, or know if it’s possible to sue?

This needs to be punished severely seriously! In 2009 I went to Europe and the exchange rate was R10= €1 and the $1 = R7 but today it is crazy and nightmare to go overseas interms of cost.

The audacity of these international banks that operate in our country ,to tell us we dont have the jurisdiction to probe their misconduct is absolutely appalling . For the International regulatory community that had the nerve to downgrade us while their subsequent banking firms are destroying a whole countrys economy . ANC members participated in this . The media should continue to investigate because the rand does not make sense, something bad happens in SA, rand falls, external factors it falls. Why is that happening, why is the rand mostly weak and falling, and we as SA continue to suffer whilst reserve bank looks on. Investigations must continue and exposed

The way the reserve bank is managed is the only reason South Africa still has a shred of credibility. I know this from a very informed high positioned insider from the USA government. They tolerate a lot of the ANC ridiculousness but if the reserve bank goes ANC style thieving and mismanagement , then we are playing with the big boys and they aren’t where they are because they’re stupid. They won’t tolerate the looting and stealing by the ANC elites and their vanity projects pretending
