The whole reason Regina thinks Janis is a "lesbian" comes from her misunderstanding Janis being "Lebanese" which is revealed at the end of the original movie.

@@MiguellaGorilla Except yes? That's why Regina thought she was a lesbian. Janis literally has a boyfriend at the end of the movie, which you claim to have seen despite clearly not knowing anything about it. And people that call others "butt hurt" are the ones sounding like douche canoes.

@@englishatheart well you definitely are acting as though you have a hurt but your overall commentary that Regina George confused lesbian with Lebanese is easily disproven by the part in the movie where Regina is relaying to Cady herb interpretation of the falling out that she had with Janice and it was literally there are going to be girls there in their swimsuits and Janice is a lesbian and it wouldn't be appropriate I mean this is literally in the movie about a halfway through so I'm really at a loss for what kind of argument you're trying to make here I can't advise you it isn't a good one. Janice not being a lesbain in the orignal is important coz its shows that regina is so vain that she thinks that everyone is in love with her literally, which then extends to Caddy. One of Janice's lines is "you think everyone loves you when really everyone hates you". If she's a lesbian it raises the idea that she actualy does love Regina rather than Regina just being so full of herself she thinks people love her all the time. It gives it plausibility which ruins the idea

I think changing things is good when you're making a remake if they offer a new take on things. Tomboys being called gay is a real thing but if we're changing it up; Gay people do actually have this experience growing up, all your friends suddenly think you might like them and get awkward around you. It can be very isolating so it felt realistic in the movie. Also Janice and Damien hanging out felt realistic because they wouldn't have that tension between them, they could find that comfort in each other as outcasts.
@piratesswoop725
@piratesswoop725 6 ай бұрын
Just because Janis is a lesbian doesn’t mean she’s in love with Regina lmao gay people don’t just automatically fall in love with every single person of the same gender any more than straight people do for every person of the opposite sex. Like, Janis and Cady were friends and Janis never hit on her so clearly it didn’t have to mean she was in love with Regina either.
@rhysdavis5761
@rhysdavis5761 6 ай бұрын
@@piratesswoop725 obviously. I'm not saying she is in love with Regina. Even if she is a lesbian it's still unlikely she's in love with Regina. I'm saying in Regina's eyes it gives it more plausibility. It's worked in the original coz it was completely ridiculous, so much so that Janice would have to be a lesbian specifically for her which showed the height of Regina's delusion and self obsession. In the new one it could be possible. It's very unlikely but it could be . The original it was impossible so it was more ridiculous when Regina said it. I agree it's unlikely and Janice doesn't live Regina but Regina thinks otherwise and has some avenue of justification when she had none before, so it loses some comedic value. It's not about what the audience thinks is the likely scenario. It isn't likely , we know that. It's about what Regina thinks, and the more likely the situation that Janice could love her, the less funny the joke

I agree completely! Also - in the original, it shows how quickly a totally fabricated or exaggerated RUMOR can ruin someone’s high school life and how impossible it can be to squash it or change people’s perception bc high schoolers often PREFER to believe whichever narrative is more dramatic and salacious. If you hold a lot of power in your high school - you can almost get away with sabotaging anyone you want with an untrue story because everyone will want to jump on board with you. So I felt it was an important element to Janice’s story that the rumor be completely UNTRUE because it added a whole other layer to the experience of being ostracized for something you aren’t in the first place. If she’s ACTUALLY a lesbian (like she is in the new version) - then she’s still being unfairly ostracized or judged…but at least it’s for something that she actually IS…at least she’s able to be authentically herself. She’s not masking herself or leaning into a narrative about her that isn’t actually who she is (like she did in the original as a form of self-defense). So yeah - making the rumor true in the new film took away a lot layers to Janice’s experience that made her situation more complicated and relatable IMO. Being the victim of 100% fabricated rumor in high school is the absolute worst and it happens to so many of us.

I actually don't like that they made Janis a lesbian. I don't like this because it plays off the stereotype that because you're a tomboy, you must be attracted to women. In reality, some girls are just more masculine and still straight. That's also one of the beauties of the OG. Janis has that rumor because of how she is.

When the remake of this movie was announced, I was genuinely afraid that they were going to make Janice an actual lesbian. Something that I loved about the original film is that it covered how people within schools get bullied and called gay whenever they’re not as a form to belittle and mentally destroy someone. For me, I always found Janice to be my favorite character because she was very relatable. Whenever I was in school, people constantly called me gay to bully me and start false rumors. even though I was NOT!, It tore me down and caused me to develop a lot of suicidal issues; as no one wanted to be my friend for fear that I may spread the false homosexual mindset to them. It truly hurts me to know that the new film doesn’t cover this real world issue, and instead decides to repaint a different image, so that it is able to support the woke ideals.

The problem with remakes (or the writing for movies in geeral nowadays) is that it claims to be for the younger generation yet they basically sit down to think about to include everything, everyone and remove anything that could be offensive to someone and then they write their script around it. But I feel like if you'd genuinely try to write something that addresses issues teenagers face these days it would work 100 % times better. And you could still include some of these iconic lines (if timed correctly). And I really like your idea about including social media. These are my general thoughts (because I haven't watched the movie yet and I'm not eager to tbh). Also the scene you showed in the beginning feels wrong... I'm not sure but watching it out of context makes it seem like they want to encourage dressing up like this when the point of the original was entirely different.

Honestly, the Janice gay rumor storyline wouldn’t make sense in 2024. It’s cool to be gay now so it makes sense to me that they changed that. But They should have totally changed it. Either made Janice gay and made Ragina’s betrayal unrelated to her sexuality, OR have Janice be straight and have the betrayal unrelated to her sexuality. in the end, changing Janice’s sexuality didn’t actually solve the issue. It just made the betrayal seem sorta dumb

I think the real problem that continues to go over people's heads is the fact that the musical is NOT supposed to mirror the og to a full 100% since this IS a BROADWAY VERSION of what was done on stage. But I won't hit hard, since not every movie is made for everyone.

It comes down to Broadway musicals are very different from movies. The style is different, the visual cues are different and the audience with their suspension of disbelief are different. So adapting the musical to the screen was going to be an uphill battle unless you had a visionary director . I'm not surprised it's not very good.

When you focus only on the colour of the skin and making straight characters gay (which not only took away a character’s entire history but the entire plot of the first movie) and worrying only about how many times you can fit gay and lesbian scenes into the movie, it really ruins it. Changing Karen’s race didn’t bother me as much as how pathetic and stupid the actress was. It was like watching a dumb person imitate an even dumber person. Too hard to watch.

One of the main reasons to hit a drive through as a parent is because you need to feed a hungry child and fast food is the quickest way to do that. You can tell the employee is just on a power trip because the solution he suggests would not in any way help the situation. Bringing the child inside would just bother the rest of the guests. What if the mom chose the drive through because she knew her child was disregulated and she didn’t want to cause a scene? I looooveee the original-I still wear pink on Wednesdays. I saw this with my friend on Wednesday…in our pink…and we really liked it and laughed pretty consistently throughout. It is its own thing and is allowed to be…there are things that work better in this movie than the original and I actually see this version of the various dynamics at play making more sense (less made for movie) than the original. Aaron’s interest in Cady is more fleshed out…and so is Regina’s reaction. Her taking him because she’s jealous makes more sense. The use of social media made absolute sense…it wasn’t people filming themselves “because TikTok”…Regina’s fall from the pedestal and Cady’s rise is the result of the Christmas show situation going viral! The responses from classmates and actual TikTok’ers using the lingo is timely (and will date this in the same way as the 3 way call does the original)…not to mention Regina’s mom gives her Insta handle (and slides in the Halloween screen gallery). Is it the instant classic the original was? No. Is it going to be a cult classic? Doubt it. But it wasn’t trash…it’s like a nice companion piece. And Renee Rapp was BRILLIANT

But ya I'm just not seeing it with these "New Mean Girls" that are made up of a gigantor, people that would be the victim of the real cool mean girls, and the chub playing Regina. If mean girls was too edgy for the generation now then I’m convinced that this generation is super soft and never really got bullied it’s giving 13 reasons why when Hannah got “bullied” for being double cheeked up and cried then again I went to a hood highschool where the nerds were cool w the gangsters and as long as you had pitch for weed nobody cared about your social status 😂 and the cheerleaders were cholas if you were caught picking on someone the popular girls would definitely drag you for it or teach the girl how to fight 😂 and there wasn’t a school shooter because every guy w a Nike tracksuit and air forces carried something else in that book bag rather than books 😂

Funny thing is, zoomers like the original a lot. the oldest ones (who were born 4 years prior to its release) and the younger/core ones (born on the same year as the movie or after it) still obsess over it. So it's another case of hollywood pulling a real life version of the steve buscemi "how do you do, fellow kids" meme

@@Crawlingdreams418 This wasnt hollywood. This was Tina Fey. She wrote the original, then decided to adapt the musical version of it into a movie and wrote the script for the new one. Both of movies are fire af and this one definitely does the original justice.

@@NinteddyRose Buddha or Jesus himself could write it, I don't care. What I do care about is that writers and multi billion dollar companies giving minorities like myself hand me downs and expect us to act like a neglected dog, standing on its hind legs and begging for a piece of meat, only to be given leftovers. Janis is not real representation, it's a hand-me-down. But nowadays authors know they can just make a random character gay (bonus points if it's a side character so that they could be edited out in releases for homophobic countries and lives up to some stereotypes) instead of writing an original one and get away with it. Because the stans will run to the writers' defense and call the naysayers homophobic and gaslight minorities like myself who didn't ask for it. All while the writers don't care about representation or all this stuff they love to virtue signal about, they care about their wallets. I never asked for this, I wanted an original character. But in an environment like this, as the saying goes, "if you want something done, do it yourself", which is what I'll do.

I just saw this movie. Its alright, if you are into this style of movies. The original movie was fantastic! This one was 100% not what i was expecting. I had no idea it was a musical. I dont think any of the actresses had the caliber of looks or character of the origonal. I am glad the teachers are the same people though! I kept thinking, they look familiar! I didnt figure it out till later 😅
