MEDICAL EMERGENCY - Flight Attendant Collapses Before Takeoff

While preparing to push for a short 30-minute hop aboard American Airlines flight 4272 from Charlotte (CLT) to Hilton Head Island (HHH), the rear flight attendant suffered an apparent stroke or seizure. It is almost unprecedented for medical emergencies to take place at all, let alone on the ground with a member of the flight crew. Watch the video to see how things unfold.

About a year and a half ago on a VivaAerobus Airbus A320neo flight from Guadalajara, Mexico to Monterrey, Mexico we were taxiing to the runway for takeoff when on the PA a flight attendant asked if there was a doctor/nurse on-board. A lady three rows ahead of me was a nurse so she got up and headed to the back to attend the passenger. Eventually we had to taxi back to a remote stand, medics came on-board, and the passenger deplaned. We then left and continued with a minor delay (which in those situations people should not complain since it’s someone’s health that is compromised). Great video!

To be fair I assume the marshalers had no idea what was going on until the pilot told the pushback leader what happened, and then he probably waved the marshaler back over.

Saw the title and thought we may have been in the same airport yesterday. There was an incident with my Southwest flight at BWI (they broke the towbar somehow, on a 1/2 full 737), when checking LiveATC for any audio of it I heard a call for rescue headed for a gate. Glad the FA got the medical care he needed and hope he makes a full recovery.

I experienced a similar incident at Kos in 2006 on my return flight to the UK. A passenger suffered a panic attack as the aircraft pushed back, after the captain had done his PA and explained the longer flight time back home was due to us "battling ferocious headwinds." Which I guess for a nervous flyer sounds pretty bad. Plane was on the taxiway with engines running at this point, of course we had to taxi back onto stand and shut down, then it turned out the airport had no medical staff on sight! Nearest doctor around 30 minutes away and just to make it worse for the passenger, this was the last charter flight of the season for that airport, which meant taking 3 connections home. Nightmare

Yes I was on a flight that had a medical emergency on the ground. This was at Newark Airport in NJ about 9 years ago. This was as we were taxiing to the runway. I noticed we seemed to turn around and head back to the gate. At the gate the passenger (who appeared to be in first class) was attended to and removed from the plane. I think we were delayed as it was before the emergency. Once we did get underway, they said they’d make DirecTV on the flight free for everyone.

Probably all that stress with the possible layoffs coming to aa if you watch any flight attendant vlogs on here they’re all very nervous about what’s coming especially since they merged with US air and pushed a lot of senior crew down the pole
