As part of her summer trip to various Bundeswehr locations, Defense Minister Annegret Kramp-Karrenbauer #AKK visited Medical Regiment 1 in Weißenfels on August 10, 2021. The video shows the arrival of the minister, a short teaching unit via video conference, static displays with Unimog, Dingo, Liebherr mountain crane, emergency room and shock tent, transport vehicles and Crayler as well as the complete final statement and answers to questions about the Afghanistan mission. These statements from August 10, 2021 on the Afghanistan mission are interesting because they address the joint (!) Responsibility of the Afghan authorities, the Ministry of the Interior and the Foreign Office.

Ja, die Mailadresse halte ich auch für kritisch und habe den Sanitätsdienst schon angeschrieben, dass das Mädel die Adresse ändert. Denn selbst wenn das hier aus dem Video verpixelt wird, gibt es viele weitere Aufnahmen des Screens mit den Namen. Aber ich kann mal schauen, wie man das nachträglich verpixelt. Dafür soll es hier wohl eine Funktion geben.

Habe die Pixelfunktion gefunden und lasse das Video jetzt nachverarbeiten. Es gibt sogar eine Tracking-Option für bewegliche Bildbereiche.

Herr Liebherr-Krans ist Oberstleutnant. Er hat leider die Meldung vermasselt und wurde im Nachhinein vom General zusammengefaltet.

Beim nochmaligen Ansehen bestätigt sich der erste Eindruck: Vor dem Aussteigen von AKK aus ihrem Panzer steht die Personenschützerin da, als wollte sie zum GenArzt sagen: „ Zieh !“

Zu meiner Zeit beim Bund gab es die 2to gl KrKW auch schon. Da lag Weißenfels aber noch in der Ostzone. AUSSCHEIDER NL -11553 P.S. Nächstes Mal statt Truppenbesuch vielleicht lieber um Ortskräfte kümmern ?!?

From AKK's answers to a couple questions, I get the impression that Germany is in more or less the same position as the U.S. regarding the situation in Afghanistan. The decision of whether or not to send troops back, coupled with the challenge of getting those Afghans out who have worked to help the U.S. and its allies over the last 20 years. President Biden said yesterday that he wasn't in favor of risking American lives in a fight that Afghan forces aren't willing to/can't fight themselves. I'm wondering what Frau Merkel's thoughts on the situation are. Can't be something she thought she'd have to deal with so close to leaving office.

In my perception, AKK is the political person in Berlin who is most authentically affected by the situation. According to the British Chilcot report on the Iraq war, the effectiveness of cooperation with the so-called Afghan security forces should have been better assessed. Helping people to help themselves does not seem to have any effect in such countries - including Mali.

@@BTBconcept In my opinion it would have taken at least 20 more years of building up infrastructure, educational system, good health care etc for the forces, public officials and also the people to get attached enough to their "new country" to do everything to keep it... It was just too soon to put it all on them. Kids were just starting to go to school... Having several generations of students run through full education is the most important thing for changes in a society, security and safety aside... Germany is a prime example. If the allied forces would have left end of the 50s I´m not too sure if Germany had developed the way it did... Lots of "old guard" in official positions and population, coupled with just a starting change of public mentality...

@@BTBconcept True. One of the....I don't want to call it a mistake, exactly, but the idea of building a functioning democracy in Afghanistan back at the start of the conflict was doomed to fail. Afghanistan has never been a unified country as we in the West understand it. It's always been a patchwork of tribes and clans with differing viewpoints, etc. That kind of disunity made it very easy for the Taliban to come to power in the first place. Where we are with Afghanistan now was inevitable, really. The West was a stabilizing influence. Take that away and it's back to square one. The Afghan security forces have unfortunately always been inept and just not equal to the task of stepping up and taking over. I hope I'm wrong, but I have a feeling Afghanistan is going to end up another theocracy and hotbed for terrorist cells.
