That first year was "rough" at first, because i was trying to figure everything out and UNDERSTAND rather than memorize. I still go for understanding now, but now i know what stuff is esoteric research junk and what's board relevant. That's why i studied so much. (to answer the question as to why major in something other than "sciences" if going to med school... i didn't decide to go to med school until after graduating.) Thanks for the comment!

I really enjoyed this video. It's always great when medical schools make videos documenting the first year of medical school. Some schools never have videos like this. Fantastic job Minnesota! :D

Keep doing good in high school. But remember that in the United States, you can apply to med school only after you have taken your MCAT's and have received a Bachelor's degree. You want to maintain a 3.4-4.0 GPA in college. The higher the GPA , the better your chances are of being accepted. Same goes for MCAT scores. The higher the better. But you want to aim for something between 29-45 on the MCAt's. Talk to a counselor. Some degrees really prepare you for MCAT. I"m a physics major.

I'm applying towards med school next year! My friend is in medical school, and I'm scared of all the courses. I'm taking fairly difficult classes with a rigorous schedule to prepare for medical school. I'm in a premedical enrichment program right now. I hope everyone works hard like me.

if you're really motivated and raise your gpa and do really well on the mcat as well as do some extra curriculars and most likely get a masters and clinical experience then you might be able to

If you get a 40 on your MCATS then, maybe do an extra year getting your masters in Biomedical Science. If no US medical school will take you, try a medical school in the Caribbean's that's accredited by the US medical boards. Then you can later apply for residency in the US by taking the USMLE and scoring really high, and be at the top of your US med class.

Yeah I heard that a lot "since I was 5 I wanted to be a doctor" that pharase is very common now in our days, but by working hard and studying hard its not always like that. Every person who applies to medical school they all have a great GPA, but they dont have a good MCAT scores and interview scores which that is where most students dont do well on that portion.

The best place to start is to visit the Medical School Admissions website and review some of the information there. You can find that website in the video description. Medically related and human experience is essential when applying to Medical School. Thanks for your inquiry.

I'm going to be a Bio-premed freshman myself. You have an excellent GPA, just keep doing what you're doing and don't give up. I volunteered at a hospital for about 7 months. If you look around for application forms at volunteer departments at hospitals nearby, just fill them out and they'll most likely interview you for a position. I'm sure you could also look for them online for a specific hospital as well. I hope that helps. =)

@aaahhhhaaaahhhh You'll also be paid significantly less than US graduates if you stay in Mexico, and if you decide to come to the United States the only two residencies you have a shot at would be Internal and Family Practice. If that's where your future is, best of luck. If you're looking for anything else, you're at a disadvantage.

@thegarbageman21~I know how U feel. A lots changed since '83 when I graduated med school but I know even then there was much talk of change due 2 the stress which begins when U walk in as a 1st yr & thru UR 2nd yr which in my day was study, study, study 9 to 5? I've got 2 admit that made my eyebrows crawl down my back! Clinical time began w/3rd yr when yr 1 & 2 had weeded-out weaker students. Sleep? 4 the next 10 yrs (8yrs in the US) 4get it, or I should say in your dreams? On graduation con't

hmmm so she is learning how to suture dummies / give exams in year 1 of med school... I don't buy it. Im a 2nd year med student and all we do is study study study study study poop and then study some more. And for all the pre-meds out there who think med school is so "hard." Dont worry! Studying isn't hard. You get used to it and even start to enjoy it. The hard part is the stress. The time restraints and the seemingly constant overload of things to do. The stress of impending tests / etc.

2/Internship meant cheap labor, no sleep & constant stress. July, '83 Lord help U if U'd an ER visit since U wouldn't B seeing a Dr, U'd B seeing ME! We all felt this way & it was sink or swim then. U didn't get thru w/o hearing of the suicide of at least 2 or 3 of UR grad class. Residency meant a bit more free time but still not much & life was medicine. Lot of marriages, most didn't make it thru residency. Yeah, there R 007 Dr.'s but the majority were & still R good people who DO care. con't

LOL do you have hard core documents to support your opinion? I am not going around giving terrible advice, I am giving an suggestion which should be lead by their own personal research. A lot of people don't know alternative options, and this person may look into it and deiced it the best or worst option for them. If you disagree with my suggestion then feel free to answer that person directly with your ideal option. Just saying smh
