Medical Update: Lobular Breast Cancer

Invasive lobular breast cancer (ILC) accounts for 10-15% of all breast cancers, with thousands of new diagnoses each year in the US. ILC looks and behaves differently than more common ductal cancers, is under-studied, and requires more clinical research. This session focuses on current standard treatments for ILC, what past research has shown works effectively for it, the research questions that remain, and ways to get involved in advancing understanding by taking part in clinical trials and research studies. Hosted in partnership with the Lobular Breast Cancer Alliance (LBCA).

I feel like the year 2016 keeps coming back in ILC diagnosis 🤔

I was diagnosed in 1998 with IDC and then in 2014 with ILC. Have had double mastectomies and chemo radiotherapy hormone treatment for both. Also had entire nodes removed on both sides due to spread. Is it common to get both types is each breast

What about ILC that are both estrogen and progesteron positive?

What about ILC in premenopausal women? Is removing the ovaries in order to be able to get the benefits of an AI earlier suggested?

I had a lumpectomy for LCIS. Can that morph into invasive

Yes I was diagnosed in 2016 with ILC . Stage2-3. Given chemo 1st to shrink the tumor because of size was told 7 cm.included the circumference around.. Chemo was effective Decreased the mass. 1st surgery checked sentinel nodes neg. But the cells between the stainless marker tested pos. lobular ca..then I chose to have bilateral mastectomy because 2011 right breast LCIS insitu & had surgery for.. 2015 mammogram didn't show anything either breast. . Previous mammogram showed calcification. My ? is that with dense breast tissue does calcification & LCIS risks factors & precursor for ILC. Which I had been diagnosed in 2016.
