Dermatitis is often called eczema, and the difference between those terms is not standardized.
The exact cause of the condition is often unclear.[2] Cases may involve a combination of allergy and poor venous return.[1] The type of dermatitis is generally determined by the person's history and the location of the rash.[1] For example, irritant dermatitis often occurs on the hands of those who frequently get them wet.[1] Allergic contact dermatitis occurs upon exposure to an allergen, causing a hypersensitivity reaction in the skin.[1]
Prevention of atopic dermatitis is typically with essential fatty acids,[4] and may be treated with moisturizers and steroid creams.[5] The steroid creams should generally be of mid- to high strength and used for less than two weeks at a time, as side effects can occur.[7] Antibiotics may be required if there are signs of skin infection.[2] Contact dermatitis is typically treated by avoiding the allergen or irritant.[8][9] Antihistamines may help with sleep and decrease nighttime scratching.[2]
Dermatitis was estimated to affect 245 million people globally in 2015,[6] or 3.34% of the world population. Atopic dermatitis is the most common type and generally starts in childhood.[1][2] In the United States, it affects about 10-30% of people.[2] Contact dermatitis is twice as common in females as males.[10] Allergic contact dermatitis affects about 7% of people at some point in their lives.[11] Irritant contact dermatitis is common, especially among people with certain occupations; exact rates are unclear.[12]
Terminology
Many authors use the terms dermatitis and eczema synonymously,[1] and various dictionaries that treat the terms as differentiable nonetheless do not provide explicit criteria for differentiating them, as the aspects of inflammation, pruritus, and either exogenous or endogenous provoking agent all can apply to either term, and thus autoimmune components are not excluded from either.
Others use the term eczema to specifically mean atopic dermatitis.[13][14][15] Atopic dermatitis is also known as atopic eczema.[5] In some languages, dermatitis and eczema mean the same thing, while in other languages dermatitis implies an acute condition and eczema a chronic one.[16]
Signs and symptoms
Dermatitis of the hand
There are several types of dermatitis including atopic dermatitis, contact dermatitis, stasis dermatitis and seborrhoeic dermatitis.[2] Dermatitis symptoms vary with all different forms of the condition. Although every type of dermatitis has different symptoms, there are certain signs that are common for all of them, including redness of the skin, swelling, itching and skin lesions with sometimes oozing and scarring. Also, the area of the skin on which the symptoms appear tends to be different with every type of dermatitis, whether on the neck, wrist, forearm, thigh or ankle. Although the location may vary, the primary symptom of this condition is itchy skin. More rarely, it may appear on the genital area, such as the vulva or scrotum.[17][18] Symptoms of this type of dermatitis may be very intense and may come and go. Irritant contact dermatitis is usually more painful than itchy.
Although the symptoms of atopic dermatitis vary from person to person, the most common symptoms are dry, itchy, red skin. Typical affected skin areas include the folds of the arms, the back of the knees, wrists, face and hands. Perioral dermatitis refers to a red bumpy rash around the mouth.[19]
Dermatitis herpetiformis symptoms include itching, stinging and a burning sensation. Papules and vesicles are commonly present.[20] The small red bumps experienced in this type of dermatitis are usually about 1 cm in size, red in color and may be found symmetrically grouped or distributed on the upper or lower back, buttocks, elbows, knees, neck, shoulders and scalp.
The symptoms of seborrhoeic dermatitis, on the other hand, tend to appear gradually, from dry or greasy scaling of the scalp (dandruff) to scaling of facial areas, sometimes with itching, but without hair loss.[21] In newborns, the condition causes a thick and yellowish scalp rash, often accompanied by a diaper rash. In severe cases, symptoms may appear along the hairline, behind the ears, on the eyebrows, on the bridge of the nose, around the nose, on the chest, and on the upper back.[22]

Eat only veggies, apples and wild game meat then add a food and see what happens. Tomatoes are another problem food too. Most foods have garbage in it and stress is a major factor. Does sweat make you itch? Most soaps and shampoo have perfumes and caustic crap. Limit showers to 2 a week and short ones with a little Dove soap. Figure what is good bacteria for a body and what food has it. Rashes etc usually occur instantly so you will know what not to eat again.

Chronic hand eczema over here. I learned that I have a sensitivity to alcohol and once I begrudgingly gave up my favourite vice, the intense itching started to fade. I still have times in the summer and winter where the dry air is a majoy set back (aka hands constantly peeling with no relief from over the counter moisturizes and such), but the ban on booze was an incredible discovery for my health.

Did you quit dry air? Just bad advice? I have had it for 70 years and no cure. Stop eating typical allergens such as eggs, peanuts, citrus, milk, wheat, shell fish... quit using stinking detergents, dryer sheets, soaps, hot showers, and clean out dust mites from bedding, use bedding impervious to dust mites. Fix water leaks in your home. Did you have rosy red cheeks as a baby? Then you have it for life. Food allergies are causing it. Clean the house. Use cortisone cream. The body sees everything as an invader

I have had bad eczema (had large patches on the back of both lower legs for about 3 years which were very uncomfortable, weepy, hot, itchy. I had to sleep with ice packs on them. I couldn't wear leggings or tights) and was told by the dermatologists I would need to use a strong immuno-suppressant cream to manage it. I tried to find another route and tried various things e.g. homeopathy, and reiki which didn't work for me personally. In the end Traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) helped me. I looked for someone who did it (a Traditional Chinese Medicine doctor / practitioner) and I had a consultation. The Chinese medicine practitioner gave a herb mix to take orally and a powder to mix with cream and rub on externally. It took 2-3 months and cleared up. I was surprised and amazed. Since then acupuncture has also helped my skin clear up during a skin flare up. Am writing this as maybe this can help someone else. I am really grateful there is something that I found that works for my body. Am wishing the same for everyone and send my good wishes to my fellow sufferers - whatever type of eczema you have.

I rub the shaving cream into them until absorbed and rinse off the residue. It doesn’t flare up anymore. I never changed my life style so I’m sure it works. Water dries skin even more. Ice can burn skin. Use cortisone cream. Cream that cause pain is actually indicating your rash is deep into the skin. You have to heal it. Use a little anti bacterial soap, cortisone, keep hands etc dry and possibly wrap in clean gauze before infection gets bad. Maybe a little bleach water and rinse, dry, add cream and wrap it up. Do not use any other lotions except cortisone. In 1971 I enlisted in Army to go to "Nam. When they learned I had eczema I was sent home. Dry skin in wet jungle is recipe for constant rash. Water is not a moisturizer and eczema is I believe is mostly allergic reactions and stress. Avoid foods that are common to allergies and avoid chemicals. Get a dehumidifier and set it to 50%

Guys, never use hormonal ointments. The skin is rapidly getting used to them. In case of cancellation, it will get much worse and you will want to use them again. Change your diet, use moisturizers, get more sleep or even change your job. But do not use corticosteroids (hormonal creams/ointments). I've been through all this more than once.

100%. When you stop using steroid creams you have a reaction called rebound eczema and makes it far worse than what you originally started with. Besides that the cream gets absorbed into your skin and blood stream. I stopped them and my eczema is so much worse. I don't want steroid on or in my body.

Your symptoms could be consistent with a type of eczema known as dyshidrotic eczema. It typically presents with small, painless blisters on the hands and feet, as well as redness and itching. Triggers can vary among individuals, but changes in seasons, certain foods, and allergies may contribute to flare-ups. To get a definitive diagnosis and personalized guidance, it's important to consult a healthcare professional or dermatologist who can provide the most accurate assessment and treatment options.

Eczema typically presents with a red, itchy rash, but the symptoms can vary from person to person. While rashes are a common feature of eczema, not everyone with eczema experiences visible rashes. Deep itching, especially at night, is a known symptom of eczema, and it can sometimes feel like a prickling or pins-and-needles sensation. If you're experiencing these symptoms and suspect you have eczema, it's essential to consult a healthcare professional for a proper diagnosis and appropriate treatment options. They can provide guidance and relief for your specific situation.

You might need to slow your carbs and get into apple cider spray routine rinse routine. Good luck young lady - the cortisone creams could increase the size of the skin issue as well. I did not like when that’s was the only prescribed cream our pediatrician gave us. So I turned to integrative medicine and did L-glutamine to heal the stomach lining and a better balance diet, with minimal sugar and refined carbs.

I'm really sorry to hear that you went through such a difficult time in kindergarten. It's important to remember that children can sometimes lack understanding and empathy, and their behavior doesn't define your worth. Neurodermatitis can be tough, but it doesn't make you a 'freak.' You are unique, and your value goes far beyond your skin. As you grow, you'll find people who appreciate and accept you for who you are. Don't let those early experiences define your self-worth, and focus on the people who love and support you.

Do a 3 day water fast, no food only water. Then slowly add back food but fruits and vegetables and beef and chicken no preservatives or sugars. Then in another 2 weeks do another 3-5 day water fast. After a month your skin will be clearer and you will feel 1000 times better trust me. When you’re fasting and you get hungry drink water and remind yourself that the pain you think is hunger is your body healing itself!
