I have been taking beta blockers for my entire adult life (48 years), and I am quite convinced that if it were not for this medication, I would not be around today. I am 68 now, BP is normal to (sometimes) high normal. I take 5mg of Bilocor (Biprosolol) daily. My pulse is around 55-60.

I’ve been on metoprolol for many years and I feel that it has ruined my digestive track. It also causes me to have heart palpitations and headaches. I’ve asked my doctor many times to ween me off of the beta blocker. She always puts that in my patient notes, then mentions that I must control my weight, which is impossible for me on the beta blocker. 🙁 Thank you for the informative videos Dr Moran.

I’m sorry that your mother is going through this. I’m also fatigued since starting a beta blocker last year. Also, I’ve been having brain fog & short-term memory issues and my cardiologist suggested it may be the beta blocker and told me to stop for a week and see if that improves. I looked into it and found that it cannot be stopped abruptly, so I’m taking full dose/half dose on alternating days to see if it helps my brain fog. I use a pill cutter to cut it at the score line.

My concern is that I’m on low dose prednisone daily (7.5mg) that suppresses the adrenal glands. I have so many questions but my doctors are not willing to answer them, and they become angry as if I don’t have a right to ask. I’m on these meds without proper Informed Consent.

Thank you for commenting, Maria.Beta blockers are good for different types of "palpitations" which I was referring to when I talked about heart rhythm problems. They can help with anxiety although we have better medications for anxiety. Beta blockers in some people slow the heart rate down too much which can lead to anxiety. I am glad they have been helpful for you. Best regards to you Maria.
