Grand Canyon: Bright Angel to South Kaibab Loop

Ice on the South Rim but hot sand at the bottom. That’s what happens when you drop 5,000 after stepping out of your car at the Grand Canyon. Bright Angel down to the Colorado and then back up the South Kaibab. It’s an awesome 20 mile loop if you can handle the toe jamming descent and calf cramping ascent.

123dwd idk. I see the Dynafit backpack and jacket, but I also Salomon shoes, a la sportiva hat (in a lot of videos). And they have a pattern (go support them). Their view count hovers around 50k, (which isn’t insignificant) and bounces from around 5 or 10 up to 50 or 100+. Granted that’s the count right now, not immediately after upload. But still.

Sup Danny and Co.! I decided to do this trail as my first ever hiking experience. I ran down bright angel and crawled (lol) up south kaibob. Managed to do it in less than 8 hours. I still can't walk properly from how sore I am. But just wanted to thank you danny for motivating me to go out there and start exploring! This hike is something I will NEVER FORGET!

More fun that way I think, I did it in 3 even. If you get a chance, there's a trail from Indian garden out along the middle plateau to the edge of the lower section of the canyon. Highly recommended, it's not too long of a diversion and I think it's the best view of the canyon in that general area.

@@danieljensen2626 I wish. I doubt we have time. I lucked out and got a Phantom Ranch overnight (a cabin even!) so it'll be a short out and back. Not as short as these guys, but elevation and miles are nothing to them.

@@KrazyKrzysztof I guess it's all dependent on your abilities. I could manage 20 FLAT miles, but the elevation gain is daunting to me. These guys are machines. Did this same loop in a day with my Wife a few years back! We went the other direction since the views going down Kaibab are stellar while Bright Angel doesn't have as much to look at going down. Great choice doing this in the winter to avoid the heat. Bring some microspikes/treads next time! It snowed the week before we did our loop and the ice you experienced towards the rim was even worse for us. Spikes are heavy for a 20 miler but better than sliding off that trail... Love the channel - you guys rock, keep up the great work!

Interesting ... we always went down the SK and back up the BA ... and of course, never in just one day. (We customarily spent one night at Phantom, then a second night at Indian Gardens to grab the sunset at Plateau Point.) Very definitely agree that you should plan to experience both trails because they're so different: SK follows a ridgeline with spectacular open views, while BA goes up an enclosed canyon.

I went down South Kaibab and up Bright Angel and used my Strava for proof 😎. I don’t really run but I was definitely jogging down and walking very fast up the never ending switchbacks. I found your channel after I hiked St. Helens. I was already semi-inspired but now I’m looking at hiking and outdoor activities in a different light. I hustle more in the flats and downhill to improve my conditioning. Thank you

My initial thoughts as they ran downhill on ice...yeah...f'n idiots.....this is why people think runners are dumb. It's like the woman on the news running during the blizzard who bites it right after her interview. Not much room for error there. Once they got past it, I found myself sucked in. Loved the filming style and respect the endurance it takes to complete such a task. I might have to tune in to other videos to get a better grasp.
