The blood bag test is basically a comparison between a fresh blood sample and old uninfected blood (blood bag) under the microscope. The alien organism mutates the blood. In the movie this is indicated in the computer scene.

@1:28:10, it was a 3-player contagion check. Both "confirmed humans" took a contagion token from eachother. If you read page 10 of the rulebook in the examples written in blue: (in a 2-player contagion check) one of them is "confirmed human" and they have to draw a contagion token, while the other does not have to (because they would 100%) get a human contagion check token. Since you must make a contagion check when someone is not in the green (confirmed human), in a 3-player contagion check you must take a contagion token from the one player that is not "confirmed human". Someone also commented this on No Rolls Barred's The Thing video. Anyways, I thought this was fantastic and would love to see more! Are you planning to film more of The Thing?

Agreed, however, I kind of wish you hadn't have gave such a monstrously big spoiler in your comment though as it detracts from the intensity of the rest of the video lol. If only there was a way to hide comments with spoilers in them until you've fully watched the video... that would be awesome!!!

I finally got to play the Thing as a four player this weekend. Absolutely loved it and it’s partly down to the excellent rules breakdown you provided along with this playthrough. As somebody who has never enjoyed board games much before this has opened up a whole new hobby now. Its all thanks to your instructional vids as I struggled just with the in game rule book. Many thanks!

I just watched your thorough tutorial and I couldn't be more thankful for that! And of course you have a neat actual playthrough of 7 people, nice! We are about to delve through this beast first hand tomorrow for 8 people and I'm really excited but first I need to really learn the ropes of this game. First off, thanks for doing this play through. It was great fun to watch. The game looks amazing and I think playthroughs really highlight what fun it can be. This is important given the bad press the game got regarding its rule book and the KS exclusives. I can’t wait to play it myself. You may have seen that No Rolls Barred just released a video of a play through of this game also a day or so ago. If you do further play throughs, I’d suggest asking players not to have multiple side conversations at once. It makes it impossible to hear what is happening during those moments. Of course it will happen occasionally when people get excited and everyone is shouting, but during ordinary play it can be discouraged I think for the sake of viewers. And it would be great to see more playthroughs! Glad I discovered your channel and I’ve subscribed. Best of luck to you all!

Thanks again for Filming this. As you may now know, you simultaneously choose tokens always. So, that 3 player contagion check in the middle or so was a bummer thing to happen. This dramatically impacted the game since it happened multiple times.

If there are 3 players doing a contagion check together and two of them know pretty much for sure that the third person is the Thing, does that mean its fair for the those two to just pick each others' contagion tokens, therefore avoiding picking the third persons? I can't work out the way to do that and the FAQ doesn't address that.

@@gamesdog9067 on BGG this has come up in the forum. Without discussion, the 2 could choose each others leaving the third to choose. It happens simultaneously though. Those 2 avoid the 3rds tokens. You just have to look at one and not yours.

Greatest horror film ever made in my opinion, and this boardgame really does it justice as it allows for people to genuinely try and avoid others alone for fear of infection. They did a fantastic job with this game in my opinion, I've bought a copy of it for myself but dont have any friends so will play it solo when i get comfortable with the solo rules. Im thoroughly enjoying this playthrough by you guys and girls. One thing that struck me when i unboxed it was the size of the board and quality of it... id love to have the painted miniatures for this game though. Thank you for this video guys!

I have been very excited for this game since it was announced, and once it arrived I have been very intimidated by the rule book. Thanks for the videos on the game. Very helpful as the rules require a lot of synthesis and appear to have lotta questions about the timing of effects. You did convince me to buy this particular game over outpost 31.

Everyone should have 3 cards as long as there is food available... and the action card should be given to the leader when you choose the room you go to, not before, because no one knows what kind of cards are needed to do the action. But it´s fine as long as you had fun ;-)

I liked the intros. Dominic was great, very understated. David though said it best, he was a human. Important when you are sitting near a thing that has a multi-color mop on its head, and near another thing with a dead yellow/green squirrel on its head.

Fun video. Several rules violations though. Biggest infraction is telling people what card you have turned in before character actions have been completed. This is a no no. Weapons and items are also secret (except for the flamethrower) until played.

It's kind of weird that the humans win as long as they escape if you think about it. In the movie, the alien was building a spaceship out of spare parts from the tractor and helicopter. The characters had to blow it up along with the rest of the station. In the board game, couldn't the alien/aliens just build that spaceship again as soon as the humans leave? I'm definetly going to buy this game because it looks like a lot of fun, thats just something weird to me. I also wish there was some way for alien players to know who other aliens are, but that would probably be impossible to implement. Thanks for the video Edit: the aliens could technically just repair the helicopter or tractor too after the humans leave. It would be interesting to see something like: the humans must use the dynamite or flamethrower to destroy any escape route they don't use

I suppose it’s possible the humans escape and then call an air strike or something on the base in order to destroy the alien before it has time to build a ship or escape itself. As for aliens knowing other aliens, during contagion encounters the alien player puts down their two tokens and can see which is picked. So they should know if the other player chooses their alien token, if they’re paying attention. I don’t know for sure though because I don’t have the game yet. I’ve just watched two playthroughs.

It was good but people on the green don t have to do the test( because they are both human for sure and not on the suspious part) but have to take one then they move on the suspicion ^^ I ll hoped to see an alien play :( it s the part that i understand less. It was really good to see you play ! Really nice vibe but i still don t understand how you spotted the two alien xD Need to see a game with how to play the alien part !! And sorry for the bad english i m french and i can t speack english very well ( obviously !! )

If a player enters a room with a dog and another player or just another player and they decide to burn that room how does the contagion check take place, or does it?

At 7:02 the player that rested gave a card to the leader. From looking at the rules and faq, resting players do not give a card to the leader. This is not the same as the special action or rush as one aid puts it.

You can have people choose or do it randomly. In this case, we did it randomly.

I think you were playing this wrong after the generator room was totally damaged, as you all looked at your choice cards after the person to the left picked a card for you (use, repair, sabotage). The game rules say that if the generator goes out then there is darkness and players must randomly choose a card to place as their selection without looking at the card. I would have played it totally without looking at the cards.

The one guy cheated, I seen him on the camera get an alien token and yet at the end he made himself human. It was the guy next to the left of the Girl. Its caught on camera you can see his token was red early on in the game.

@@dilatedbeholder3865 I would have to watch it again to find it. I never expected him to say he was human so I never marked it. I believe it about halfway through before the 1 hour mark. Just watch him when he gets the token, you can clearly see its red. I even paused it to look to see if I happen to see who got infected. Then you can see he behavior changes and he starts wanting to pair up with people, but at the end he pulls out a human card. I think a couple of the players were cheating on the other players. After all its an honor system, no one can prove who is infected or not. Just happens the camera caught someone. If I can find the Time stamp I will post it.

31:05 but the token isn't red because it's an alien token, the token is red because it is the red players token. All three tokens coorespond to the color of the player they are owned by regardless of being human or alien.

What did the guy at 6:45 do with the deck? Did he shuffled them face-up? Or did he just put cards he needed to the top?

His character goes in the Dormitory : it lays down, the player replace his hand by cards of his choice and give one to the leader. EDIT: It was a mistake, since the character rests but at 7:00 the leader realize it (off camera) by pointing the character laid down saying "no.. not with this".

They don’t give a card to the leader, that is not in the rules.

Boys......please....please do a playthrough of the Norwegian Expansion of The Thing the Board Game...... you'll be the first trust me all there is is a Spanish playthrough and a French playthrough and I don't speak either........I cannot believe no one has done an English playthrough yet.......is it that 💩y of an Expansion?

I tried several times to watch this playthrough of one of my favorite games in the past few years, but Stephen's non-stop domination of the gameplay is every board gamer's nightmare, and made this video unwatchable.

That's been noted before, lol. I think until you watch yourself in a recorded playthrough, you don't realize what "kind" of player you can be in general.
