I work with Bailey. She is a great welder, and a great ironworker. She proves everyone wrong everyday she works

My dad was a welder from age 16-49, he passed away a week before his 49th birthday-- I was 16. I never gave welding much thought, mostly because I know it's a hot environment, mostly men, and I heard that the equipment can be really heavy. I'm 28 now and thinking about going to school for welding, hvac, or both. Wish I would've gave it a more serious thought sooner. This was a good interview 👏🏼

I just went to school a year ago and wish I did it earlier . It’s long hours and hard work , but I love TIG . And it’s good money . Definitely give it a shot ! And RIP to your father

It doesn’t matter how late or soon you do it. Just doing it is the thing that will define you in your own mind. Who cares what others think. If I had listened to the naysayers in my life I wouldn’t have tried anything different. Pushing out of your comfort zones is good for you especially if you fail. 👍👍

I’m 32 and have been a server forever. My marriage just ended after 12 years together, and I’ve enrolled in a welding course. I am so excited to build a better life for myself and my boys. I want to show them it’s never to late to make your dreams come true ❤️

@@charitymiller6151 great!! Finished my course at the end of October, and just finished my second week of work. So glad I took the leap, I have learned so much over the last 6 months ❤️

I’ll tell you some I welded with a lot women in my highschool and they are not scared to get down and dirty and they weld better then most men

@@thecpmr6276 It has so far. Graduated welding school back in May, worked at a fab shop for 3 months until I got laid off due to lack of work, but I just recently started working at Toyota this week.

the only obstacle I see in women is heavy lifting, other than that women can do pretty anything as long they're 100% disciplined 🤷‍♀️

Honestly, it’s not that men just dominate a particular trade, it’s more like most women don’t want to do that kind of work.

If you were brought up being directly or indirectly told you are not capable of that kind of work, or that you'd be treated poorly if you tried, you'd decide to do different work too.

@@TrekkerLLAP agree, we are not brought up to look into these jobs. “Well that’s a man’s job sweetie, how about nursing or teaching” luckily my parents raised me to look into trades and believe that would be a great career area for me. I’m 28 and just signed up for welding school and I am beyond excited.

@@TrekkerLLAPThere's a little bit of truth in this, but ultimately you have to be the change you want to see. Otherwise nothing will get done, and those stigmas will continue to be reinforced by the lack of women in welding, y'know what I mean? Tons of men are brought up to not respect work that isn't traditionally masculine, such as teaching. I see your point, but if women don't step up and prove themselves, prejudice will continue to thrive.
