He had been upgraded to the Trapster after he had joined the Frightful Four. Extraordinary genius inventor and chemical engineer Peter Petruski stopped calling himself Paste Pot Pete after the early 1960s, after he had gotten a new, way better, high-tech armored costume in the mid-1970s. He also improved his glue formula and his advanced glue technology. His advanced glue weaponry actually now rivals Baron Zemo's (both Heinrich's and his son Helmut's). Also, strangely enough, he even developed a superhuman power to "techno-form", instantaneously forming technological traps by somehow shaping metal, plastic and glass into advanced booby traps in seconds. How he is able to suddenly use the same power as Box (Madison Jeffries) or a similar power to Wiz Kid (Takashi "Taki" Matsuya) I have no idea. But whatever the case may be, Dr. Pete Petruski has improved himself as a mad scientist, professional criminal, super-villain and would-be world conqueror ever since the early 1980s.

I remember as a kid buying all the Marvel Encyclopedia issues (the ones with all the characters running from left to right on the front and back covers), which were great because it explained the history off all the heroes in the comics in Alphabetical order in like 20 issues. Most chararacter get one page, a few paragraphs on their origins and their history, with some info about how strong they were, if they had a secret identity, etc.. Well, most except for Rick Jones, his entry was like 3 full pages of text. Even in 2021 he's _probably_ the most intertwined character they've had, right? He was involved with Hulk, Captain America, Captain Marvel, the Avengers and a few more heroes too. The dude was _everywhere_ back then.

Another important thing about Captain America during these early issues is that, when he was re-introduced in The Avengers, he was the only member of the team that didn't have a solo series at the time. He'd get one before long, but the first few issues of that series would be fairly plot-light episodes of Cap beating up a bunch of people, and then it would pretty quickly become a series about Cap's World War II adventures. This meant that the Avengers writers didn't have to worry about keeping the character consistent with another series and could therefore give him development that wasn't possible with the other members. I think that was a key factor in why he rose to prominence so quickly.

It is amazing that when a villain gets stereotyped for a particular power or situation they get 'stuck' with that association until death or beyond. Zemo must have been in his fifties when he re-emerged in the Avenger comics and certainly overdressed for his reign in the tropics. I could only chuckle at how ridiculous some of those villains were for their time.

The Official Handbook to the Marvel Universe, explained that Baron Zemo fed himself intravenously (IV) after the hood got glued on. Peter David, who wrote the Incredible Hulk for 15 years and did a Captain Marvel book(Genis-Vell, son of Mar-Vell) , thought that Rick Jones had seen it all in Marvel and that made it fun for him to write for. I think he would a great subject for future videos.

I love how super weaponized glue is apart of his origin, even when his mask doesn't have nose and mouth holes, so he should be suffocating and dying of hunger, and other conditions, but, he, and his son, are too angry to die. Most likely, the MCU will omit this, like a lot of his origin, or not, meaning it's forever attached to him... Hehe (It's funny, Rick Jones is still prevalent in comics, and has appeared in games and shows occasionally, but besides a mention in text form in The Incredible Hulk and rumors he appearing in She-Hulk, casual fans would be none the wiser to him.)

Also despite two of my favourite fandons it yook until now to realize Aang and Cap have the same backstory.

Those early days of Marvel under Stan Lee were a trip 😀. My main question though is this: when did they run the old Marvel TV cartoon in Canada that someone as young as Sasha knows Cap's theme?

Zemo took to wearing the getup with the purple mask and tiara and fur collar so that people wouldn' know that it was him. I see.

Why is Rick Jones? I mean really, back when I was reading comics (started in 60's), this guy named Rick Jones kept popping up, and I kept asking why? I know he was the kid that Bruce Banner was trying to save, when he was hit with Gamma Rays. (The Incredible Hulk #1 - 1962) And Rick, out of guilt, kept trying to help Hulk/Banner. But then he just kept popping up all over Marvel comics: The Skrull-Kree wars, Swapping places with Captain Mar-Vell, the Runaways, he just keeping popping up. If you want to do a Rick Jones run, be warned it's quite "the Rabbit Hole" and I doubt one video will be sufficient. As always thank you so very much for the video.

I remember re-entering comics circa 2009 after having taken... damn, I'm old...... some 18 or so years off from them and coming on the Thunderbolts Presents- Zemo- Born Better trade. I enjoyed the story and what it did for the character, but it was an especially fitting re-entry, because my very first ever comic was Avengers... #277 With Zemo facing down Cap on the cover.. the final issue after the Masters of Evil invaded Avengers Mansion and beat Hercules into a coma.. Hmm.. Sasha.. maybe a bit about the Masters of Evil invasion of Avengers Mansion.. you already covered that weird story where Moonstone and Blackout teamed up with like.. Rhino... I don't remember.. it's late.. and I'm babbling... cheers

Yay! Second favorite wig today! It's a good cut on you and I love the iridescence! I was just thinking that you should do a Rick Jones retrospective! He has as rich a history as any Marvel superhero, yet he was always the sidekick! I saw the reference to Captain Marvel in the comic panel and thought, "Yeah, how DID he get together with Mar-vell, to kind of parallel the OG Captain Marvel and Billy Batson?" Also glad to see the Twilight Zone theme has held on to its relevance after all these years! 10:13 "...America's most uninhibited, unabashed, unforgettable team...?" What, is this the Playboy editorial staff or the Avengers?! 😉 If you're gonna nail the Jean-Ralphio voice, and I am here for that, ya gotta really belt out "the worst" like the cheesiest lounge singer you've ever heard of. It's before your time, but look up Bill Murray's lounge singer from the OG Saturday Night Live. It's quite epic when he sings his own lyrics to the Star Wars theme! So if we're sharing Baron Zemo stuff, my first encounter was with his son, though I didn't know his name was Helmut at the time. Back in the early '70s, an outfit called Power Records did audio dramas on 45 RPM records that were meant to be listened to while reading an accompanying comic book. I had one that had Cap and the Falcon fighting "The Phoenix!" No, not that one, the first one, where it was a guy and he just had a costume and a ray gun. It was pretty deep in how they dealt with Cap's feelings about the personal toll of World War II, and discovering he was fighting the son of Zemo went part and parcel with that. I still remember the last line: "Say it again, Sam. (!) Say it isn't my fault. Maybe the second time I'll believe it." Heavy-duty stuff for 8 year old me! But I ate it up with a spoon, already being deep into comics at the time.

If they ever get to do DC/Marvel crossovers again, I demand a Rick Jones/Snapper Carr face off.
