This man beat guys like Eddie Alvarez and starched Benson Henderson. He’s been one of the top ten best lightweights in the world for the last several years, but was too busy building the division in Bellator as well as the company itself to have any time trying to prove that he’s the best lightweight in the world in the UFC. He’s 34 though so he doesn’t have too much time in his prime, plus he’s taken a bunch of damage over the many wars he’s been in, on top of having some bullshit or outright weird losses in his career that totally hold him back from being undefeated. If he can get past those barriers, then he will finally have the chance to realize his dream of beating anyone in the top ten which he can do in more than one way for every major opponent. As a longtime fan of this absolutely marketable, charismatic, driven, principled class act, him finally being recognized as the long awaited best lightweight in the world is an absolute long time coming for him. Only people who say he has no shot are people who are uncultured UFC sweaties in the comments.

Nobody ever calls out Tony Ferguson so it's refreshing to hear Chandler do that and not be afraid of the moment. He deserves that fight. If he gets a big win vs a top 5 guy it will be hard for the UFC not to give him a title shot vs Khabib or Justin and he would match up extremely well with both of them.

I love how well spoken he is and how he carries himself , but I don't understand how he would get a title show after beating Ferguson , when Ferguson recently lost too Gaethje , the only way he gets a title shot so quickly if he beats Ferguson within the first 20 seconds of their bout & the likelihood of that happening is slim .

The comments here are super cringe and rude. I really want to see Michael Chandler fight. He is a really aggressive fighter, and doesn't try to win on points. He is a well rounded MMA fighter, with enough wrestling to be in the top 5. This makes the UFC more exciting. After he fights, and knocks out Tony Ferguson, people will suddenly be huge fans.

This Chandler's situation is absolutely ridiculous. I don't know what's UFC thinking. What will happen if Khabib gets injured? Will he lose his belt? Fans will go mad! They're still salty Ferguson lost his belt over a 4 months injury, they really think fans will accept someone like Khabib lose his crown over an injury? Cuz, if he's not gonna lose his belt why on earth Justin would want to even fight? And the idea itself is a big disrespect to Tony and Dustin who've gone through hell to get to the top in this division. Even Gaethje who was the champion from another organization, an undefeated champion actually unlike Chandler, first needed to fight the gate keeper and then fight the absolute beasts to get near the belt. Why is Chandler given this opportunity?

Im excited to see Chandler in the UFC, but paying him more than Ferguson or Porier is kind of a low blow, but lets be honest if he did it for any cheaper people would call him a "scab" and be upset about the opposite. People are mad that its not Tony who is the backup, but he would not answer his phone when the UFC was trying to contact him "I dont pick up phonecalls from Dana White, and I dont do Joe Rogan Podcasts Ariel." In Tonys own words... He gave this opportunity up and Chandler jumped on it when Porier and McGregor were distracting eachother with all their nonsense... either way though Im excited to see what "Iron" Michael can do for the UFC, and what they can do for him!
