Just a few tips: For every 3 inches of shell, you need 10 gallons of water, because you have 2 you'll also have to double that size! You need a filter, they are VERY messy animals, getting a filter that filters 2x as much water as your tank size will help keep the ammonia down! At least 75% of the tank should be filled with water. You DO need water conditioner! Also keep any eye on aggression towards each other, males can be aggressive when trying to mate! Also make sure you have a Uvb bulb or see if the your basking bulb also produces that:) There is a controversy about water heaters but I'd recommend one just incase the water does get too cold! Don't get me wrong turtles, are amazing but they're a lot of work. And they are nothing like dogs and cats, they are reptiles!!! Congrats on your new turtles!!!❤️❤️

Hey Liza! Congrats on your new shell babies! I'm so excited for you! I am aware that you mentioned you are getting a larger tank, but here are a few suggestions :) First, I didn't see a filter when you were showing the tank. I highly recommend investing in one, because turtles are SUPER messy and poop a lot, ect, and a filter will save you a butt-load of time from doing water changes to keep the water clean and the turtles healthy. Second, your turtles are red eared slider turtles, which are very good swimmers, so you don't have to fill their temporary tank only halfway up. In fact, they'd probably appreciate more room to swim around, so fill 'er up! (and also, with more water volume, the more waste can be diluted, so by filling the tank all the way up, you're making it easier on you and the turts ;) Third, because you got two turtles (opposite genders, nonetheless) please, please, PLEASE, keep an eye on them for aggression. If the male wants to mate with a female, but she's not interested, the male could cause some serious damage. I'm talking bitten feet and tails, necks, and all kinds of bad things. If the female retaliates, it can be an all out bloodbath so please be careful! Also keep in mind that the more space they can have to themselves (i.e. a bigger tank), the less likely aggression will occur, so the sooner you get a bigger tank, the better :) Lastly, not sure if that bulb over the basking area produces heat AND UVB light. BOTH are essential to turtle shell health and growth! Have a turtley awesome day!

Not trying to be that person and don't worry ur not 'mistreating' those turtles at all, and ik that ur getting a bigger tank, but just in case, make sure u have small rocks on the bottom of ur tank (gravel) but avoid plastic ones for obvious reasons. Another tip, keep the tank as natural as possible eg. Not plastic stuff, search up what their natural environment would look like. Don't keep their water too clean and if u r using tap water make sure to add water condition so the chlorine doesn't burn their skin. Love u lots Liza and u r gonna do a great job!

Oh my god, turtles are so much work!! I love mine, and I'd never give him up, but lol I don't think I'd ever recommend an aquatic turtle as a pet. And you better hope that other one isn't a female because they get almost twice as big as males. Side note, I heard you got a bigger tank, but make sure you also get a water heater. If the water is too cold, or their basking spot isn't warm enough for them to dry out, they can get a respiratory infection and shell rot. Hope you love your pair!

I'm glad you mentioned they're getting a new tank! Please do your own research Liza 😀 You're gonna need filters, a heater, and 2 different lights (uvb and heat, don't get the combos. They break really easily). taco is a red eared slider and the other one looks like it too, so they will get about a foot long each. Your honestly going to need at least a 150 gallon tank. Just a couple tips because the employees at Petco aren't going to tell you that up front. they want you to buy a whole smaller set up now, just so you have to come back and get a bigger one later. Learn from Jenna and her fish debacle!

just to make sure you’re safe with turtles if the petco staff didn’t let you know you should always wash your hands after handling the turtles because you at risk of salmonella with turtles also washing there tank is kinda hassle but i recommend to put your turtles in a small fish container or that tank in the vid temporarily and then put them back in after also make sure to put purification drops in before putting back in there home having turtles are very fun but i want to make sure you and the new members are safe! i only know this from previous ownership of a turtle and i also had to replace the water filter thing quite a bit some were bigger and smaller it all really depends you can also look up what type of filters others recommend for you turtles in particular
