Máiréad Nesbitt (pronounced "mah-raid") (born in Loughmore, Ireland) is a Classical and Celtic music performer, most notably as a fiddler and violinist. She is currently the fiddler for the group Celtic Woman.
In 2004, Máiréad was invited to play violin for a performance at the Helix Theatre in Dublin, called Celtic Woman. The popularity of this and subsequent performances on television and live albums has led to five tours across the United States.
Celtic Woman has released a total of five albums to date: Celtic Woman, Celtic Woman: A Christmas Celebration, Celtic Woman: A New Journey, Celtic Woman: The Greatest Journey, and Celtic Woman: Songs from the Heart.

yes - she is a fairey - truly. I`d wanted her as "the little fairey" playing the tin whistle opening this magnificient dance show. But that remains a wish - or? Please.

yes the way she would bounce around playing the fiddle, almost step dancing, even more then lindsey sterling the one they call the hip hop violenest, i would sware she was a mythical creature but that bump of a hairdo at the back of her head, its very much her signature and the huge cheekbones that irish people seem to have. but she does look pretty in the dresses she wears when performing and that blond hair and cute dancing around as she plays, such high energy

Michael Flatley knew how to spot incredible talent! I was first made aware of her, as 1 of 2 fiddlers in Lord of the Dance and Feet of Flames Hyde Park. Those shows were so spectacular because of the incredible talent on stage at one time. Michael may be retired now, but I'm praying that people like her and the dancers from LoTD, mentor and school up and comers, so we can keep on living the magic and beauty that is Ireland and it's rich heritage.❤❤

@RichardAlanKosar - It's probably "Granuaile's Dance" - but I'd have to play the DVD to verify that. Here are the tunes she plays: Mairead plays "Granuaile's Dance" and "Shenandoah: The Pacific Slope". Hayley sings "Scarborough Fair" by herself and duets with Mairead (Handel's "Lascia Ch'io Pianga") and Meav ("The Last Rose of Summer"). The DVD is: Celtic Woman: A New Journey.

I've played piano since I was 4, as well as independently studied a variety of music types, and I feel the sting of those words too. I've always wanted to play violin, and it's always inspiring yet disheartening watching these interviews. It seems like they've been "born with it", but we should respect them for what they have, and use them for our inspiration. =)

She is a really good musician...and beautiful. Funny how only the musicians that are beautiful are any good, eh? Er, well, there are some others...:-) Anyone who is interested in fiddlers who are not necessarily fantastic to look at should check out Tommy Peoples, or the Kane Sisters (who are also beautiful), and if you want to be totally blown away, check out the late Johnny Cunningham playing fiddle with his brother Phil. On the Scottish side of things, Alasdair Fraser is not to be missed. Cheers.

When I had a teacher, I mentioned Mairead to her and she said," of course you realize that she is pretending to play when shes dancing around like that". I adore Mairead,(after seeing her play,I got back into fiddle playing) but, it did get me wondering how anyone can dance around and not miss a stroke or worry about the bow bouncing.

She actually plays while she dances, I fear that teacher was wrong, mairead being doing this for years, her family is heavily involved in traditional music, it took her years of practice to get to where she is, sad to think people really fail to give her credit, I think the teacher when teaching was probably in a small room or house setting, this style would be completely alien to her, the teacher was from the more traditional stand in one place when performing,
