Michael A. Cummings is considered America’s leading African American male quilter, with an ever-expanding influence on the current generation of quilt artists. Micheal began experimenting with collage construction in 1973 and soon moved on to fabric collage compositions, using appliqué techniques. He devotes his time to research in African American culture and quilt making, translating this history into narratives within quilts. Filmed at the Festival of Quilts 2022.

i really, really love watching your videos. you ask the BEST questions, and always seem to capture what the artists are passionate about. so many programs that do highlight artists seem to always leave you wishing for a better view of their artworks, or more info about the person or their methods- but in your short time with them, you manage to present a perfect blend of all of it.. and include so much extra info in the descriptions for us to continue the adventure! for those of us who can't get out to see and meet, you are an absolute treasure. thank you so, so much!
