Dexter the dog was badly injured when he was hit by a car years ago. He used a wheelchair to get around for a while, until he started walking like a human. Steve Hartman shares more in "On the Road."

As a survivor from being beat up on a daily basis in school years ago, I can tell you this. Life is ups and downs and I think I feel bad for those that never experience challenges. I hope you're in an up now!😃

Dogs live in the present, so they dont have a defeatist mindset and give up living because of their setback. They just move on and do their best living and surviving. That's my take on this.

My take is the dog injured himself as a puppy, so really adapted easier than an old dog. I think it's harder to teach an old dog new tricks.

@@stephendacey8761 Dexter taught himself. "Can't teach an old dog new tricks" is an unproven and exclusively human-relevant theory. Animals are resilient to a degree that only the very best of us can approach. Although highly intelligent and a fully qualified nurse, my mother took a very uncomplicated, almost anti-intellectual, approach to her enforced new life when she became seriously handicapped at the age of 56. Diagnosed as needing constant total assistance, she took care of her own food, her hygiene, and her leisure. Before that we "smart kids" found her simplistic answer to every problem infuriating. Mother changed our minds. A living being like Dexter could have inspired the song that says "No matter what they take from me, They can't take away my dignity". Dexter even enhanced his dignity, don't you think?

This is kinda harmful tho since dogs are not evolved to walk bipedal, it could be injured since they don’t have the right bone structure to support the weight

This brings a lump to my throat, tears welling, not from sadness but because of beauty. In a world full of woes, a sweet dog, a DOG is teaching us! I love dogs, and have thought for a long time that they know things, and they do understand more than we ever thought possible.

I believe too because of Dexter and his walking that the world can come together and end the war in Ukraine, if Putin saw this video and followed Dexter on Instagram then he would say sorry and stop the war. I believe that to be the hope and possibility that this dog offers the people of Earth!

I love all of Steve Hartman's uplifting stories and this is one of his best. With bad news available 24/7 we definitely need more like this. Dexter and his owner are winners in my book. Would've been so easy to just have him put to sleep. Now look at all the people he's inspiring.❤

That’s the 2nd one I’ve seen walking like that . The other one didn’t have a disability just taught himself to walk like a human. Never underestimate what an animal can learn what to do. I imagine he turns many heads. Wonderful

It makes sense when they adopt the behaviour due to disability, a fully able dog would never do this out of choice, be carefull what you cheer for as there are many documentaries of dogs being abused in order to get them to walk on two legs.

Oh, thank you for this inspiration. At 80 yo, 3 busted disks, and going through divorce, Dexter taught me the lesson I needed to learn. Blessed pup, blessed owner and blessed my friend who sent me the link 🙏🙏🙏

This was awesome. And I’m so glad that they didn’t give up on him and worked so hard to get him back to health. Animals are really good at adapting. Anytime any of my girls get sick or injured I take them to the vet and do everything possible to keep them comfortable and I will spend what I have to to get them healthy again. All 4 of my girls are cats. All rescue. 1 black cat and 3 triplet Russian Blue sisters.

I'm watching a dog that adapted to walk on two legs while on another segment they show how a group of villagers adapted to walk on all fours. We sometimes forget just how incredible life is and how its full of surprises.

That is one awesome dog! Pets are so wonderful and bring great joy into their owners' lives. And then, occasionally one demonstrates some unique and amazing ability that just brings a special joy to everyone's life.
