What I find interesting here is that the main cast is not themed after circus performers but different forms of entertainment. Ragatha is a rag doll. Jax is a cartoon character. Gangle is a theater mask. Kinger is a chess piece. Zooble is a scramble figure. And Bubble is a, well, a bubble. The only two that are clearly based on actual circus performers are Caine (a ringmaster), and Pomni (a jester).

I'm sure the idea is that they're all toys and knickknacks (Caine is based on those wind-up chattering teeth). Glitch and Goose say the look was inspired by I, Spy and Toy Story.

Fun fact: at one point, Glitch had 3 shows running at once, Murder Drones released its pilot, Sunset Paradise was in the middle of its life, and Metarunner was in the middle of season 2. Glitch can have multiple shows running at once

"Headset" So the way Pomni and the others have been trapped inside the Digital Circus might've been by cluelessly trying a game. How she exactly found the game well have to wait an see. Yet if it's truly a game, what is Caine? A spirit or malicious entity possessing the game or an AI that somehow gained awareness? The second option seems more likely, as Caine is inspired by AM. This whole story could be a reimagination of I Have No Mouth And I Must Scream, with Caine using their fears and past against them...only not as torture, but as some weird and alien form of entertainment. Indistinguishable from torture.

Very big fan of the way these characters move. It's like I'm peering into an alternate universe where bones don't exist, and instead everyone is free to stretch into the exact shape of whatever emotion they happen to be feeling.

I instantly recognized the inspiration for Zooble! I'm willing to bet the character design was based off the Zolo toys from the 90's. It was like a Mr. Potato Head with weird, interchangeable shapes. The wing, the body, the patterns, the "antenna" are very similar to real pieces. So nostalgic, and one of my favorite toys when I was a kid!

Cain, bubble, and kinger's introductions happening at the same time (and interacting!) feels really significant. Jax interacts with most others, but Cain, bubble, AND kinger are all off limits. We know Cain and bubble are super powerful given they're the AI in charge of the circus, but that also hints that Kinger is... More significant than we realise. I don't think Jax realises Kinger is so significant, but Kinger is also one of the only characters Jax doesn't torment in the pilot

Caine is based off chattering teeth Pomni is based off clown plushes/puppets Ragatha is based off rag dolls Jax is based off stretch/rubber toys Gangle is based off dancing ribbons on sticks and panto masks Bubble is based off big bubbles from bubble toys Kinger is based off chess pieces, mostly the king piece and Zooble is based off mix-and-match toys
