Doolin - Designated Tourism Destination of Excellence by Fáilte Ireland in 2019
Doolin, one of Ireland’s most loved visitor destinations, which is widely regarded as ‘the home of Irish music’, has become the first Irish village to be awarded Fáilte Ireland’s Destination Award for Excellence in Customer Service. To achieve the Award, tourism businesses in Doolin undertook Fáilte Ireland’s Accredited Service Excellence Programme with nearly 120 local tourism frontline staff across 41 local businesses completing a dedicated course of customer care training. ‘Meet the Locals’ captures the very essence of why these local family-run businesses are gaining recognition for their customer service and warm, and welcoming nature.
About Doolin:
Located on the edge of the historic Burren in northwest County Clare, along Ireland’s Wild Atlantic Way, and within easy reach of the majestic Cliffs of Moher and the glorious Aran Islands, Doolin’s dramatic landscape and unrivalled scenery are what you might expect to see in an epic Hollywood movie. Luckily enough, Doolin is as real as it gets. As well as a great base for exploring the region, Doolin is widely regarded as the home of traditional Irish music, with plenty of music and events to experience every night in the local pubs and venues throughout the village - ‘craic agus ceol’ is aplenty in this Irish coastal village. Take a clifftop walk, breathing in the crisp, salty Atlantic air while appreciating the beautiful wildflowers, explore the rugged landscape where land and sea collide, or embark on an Atlantic cruise to appreciate the unique coastline from a different perspective.
The village itself is a vibrant place full of characters, stories and experiences, and is home to some of the region’s best accommodation, eateries, activities, local craft shops, and of course, warm welcomes.

I’m posting this comment from Nova Scotia, Canada and want to comment of all the places I’ve travelled to Doolin is where my heart has stayed. It is so very special from the scenery to the music to the people. I’ve been 6 times always staying with Mary Fitzgerald at Riverdale Farmhouse. Only place in the world I’ve hitchhiked, danced at 11:00 in the morning, listened to poetry at 3:30 in the morning. I had another return trip booked for September 2020 but we all know what happened. As the Irish would say, please God, I’ll be back again. Love to Doolin and all of Ireland.

Beautiful area and fantastic scenery but for reasons that shall soon be clear, I've not had the courage to view this until recently or to go there myself. If you go walking along the cove and cliffs near Doolin, please, please, please be careful and do heed all of the warnings in and around these parts (there are literally hundreds of signs and fences). I lost a very close family member in 1983 and (a few days later) several people from the Lisdoonvarna festival were also lost (and there are many other instances besides), hence the coast guard part. The seas and cliffs can be treacherous and must be respected. If you are concerned, then a guide such as the one in this video is a good solution and will keep you from wandering in unsafe paths. I don't care if there are some nay sayers responding to me but if I could save only one life, then this post will have been worth it. My brother loved Ireland and I think he loves it still from wherever he is now.

Doolin is a beautiful town, ferry over to the Aran Islands, surf the crystal clear peeling right off Crab Island, tap your toes with the amazing musicians, savor the pints and bathe in the beaming smiles. Some time take the time… to travel down that coast road… it’s place that changes you.

My great grandmother was from Teergueneen not sure I spelled it correctly. My mother addressed the envelopes to family when she was a child. She is 80 now. I'd love to bring her to Doolin. It looks beautiful. My great grandmother was afraid of the ocean and the cliffs. Her name was Susan Glynn. She came to the United States in 1906 or so. I don't know if and relatives remain.
