On the question of the day, for us, it was a thriving issue. A big box store gave me a baby normal ball python that came in with severe issues and very bad mouth rot. They did everything to treat, but he wouldn't thrive. They were going to have to put him down. They gave him to me to basically pass away comfortably. Well, Sammy is now almost a year old and no signs of issues. It was a long road, but he is now one of our best eating pythons. I took him back to the store 6 months later to show him to the staff...needless to say, it was slippery there due to all the tears. Great video and good luck on your breeding project!!

They’re absolutely gorgeous lizards. I commend you for being patient. That’s much more important than trying to breed them before you feel comfortable 🦎❤️

Hey Dayyan! Hugs 💗🦎 Imo, you did the right thing by measuring the temperatures in the cold room. Better to know than to guess 👍 Besides, our winters (especially where we live), arent as tropical as BC lol Some cold rooms freeze here.

Very jealous at some of the animals you can have mate. I breed fish, mostly catfish. I have had major problems with Brochis. I might have to put them in a bigger tank. On the other hand I saw 26+ dwarf Cories in my quarantine tank, that I had forgotten any were in. Started with 3 just to keep the tank cycled and completely forgot about them.

Awesome video! I struggled with sorta the same thing with my pair of Russian tortoises and finally over wintered them outside here in Virginia this year. I couldn't have been happier when they emerged this spring healthy and active!

Yes, earthworms are very sensitive to things touching their skin. The mucus is supposed to help protect their skin. I may have accidentally killed some during a middle school science fair project by making the soil too acidic- I was testing different foods on their skin color. Food coloring will change their coloration, that was the previous year. “Foods” with strong pigments were used… didn’t realize maple leaves would increase acidity until after they turned white and died. It was a bit traumatic, I was sure they’d be fine after my background research. Decaying leave are able to leach into the soil and diffuse the acidity in nature- the 2-liter microcosm was too small.

Honestly, I’m not sure I’d ever be comfortable putting these beauties through dormancy if I was in your position. Would I do it? Yes, after investing in a temperature regulated dormancy fridge and testing it for several months. And having three backup plans for when something goes wrong. And multiple thermometers that I can check remotely, probably with whatever is necessary to monitor oxygen and humidity and whatever else I can think of. 😂 (I’m not saying you should do these things, just conveying, hopefully somewhat humorously, how much of a nervous wreck I would be.)

Actually the abronia graminea was a species that I wanted to breed. Not so much of having a problem doing so, because I know what temps, baro and humidity they do at, but finding some that are acquirable. Where I'm at they cost 3,500 to 8,000 USD and I just want them to be more prevalent in the trade....being that they are basically extinct in the wild. Which brings me to another thing! Could a new species be introduced in to a different mountain range, where the habitat in plentiful, without experiencing some kind of governmental kickback?! I just want the species preserved for many generations to come because they really are such a wonderful animal.

Not trying to sound like a know it all cuz I’m not even close and I know slim to none about this species but maybe a bigger enclosure that offers more land a long with the water so it can find the dirt with the right humidity. (Bigger wet to dry gradient).

For the question of the day: Hainan Cave geckos (G. hainanensis) because I want to make more! I lost a large, almost breeding ready girl, due to a freak accident involving egg-binding and a heatwave in the winter. I am honestly struggling to keep the happy humidity, along with cool temps for these geckos in Colorado. It's just hard. But I have a girl who might lay some infertile eggs in a few weeks so Im hoping she'll be okay to be paired up next May.

I desperately want to breed my northern blue tongues, but so far, it's year 3 of no luck. I have 1 male and 2 females. I've only gotten to the point where the male grabs a female and then.... nothing he just let's her go lmao. It can be frustrating but when I eventually have a success it's gonna be sweet! 😊

Really, they are much smaller in size compared to what they seem. All those big scales and the large heads make them feel larger on video. You may laugh at me now, but my great difficulty with breeding is with pancake slugs. They are probably illegal in Canada, but they are legal in Europe. Most of the time, I kept failing the eggs and only once I had very few hatchlings, which I also killed them by too much humidity. In contrast, breeding African lamb snails is straightforward.

Question of the day: I really enjoy keeping Asian long-tailed grass lizards (Takydromus sexlineatus), and wish they were more widely kept in the hobby and bred more often in captivity. They are really amazing little lizards! As for which species I would love to breed personally, it's cricket frogs. I keep a trio of Acris crepitans and would love to see them reproduce under my care.

My main struggle right now is simply getting my hands on my first rosy boa, a species which I would love to breed someday to make them available to my fellow Canadians because NOBODY breeds rosy boas here! Other than that, to properly answer your question, I tried introducing a faviites coral to my reef aquarium when my reef was five months old and the coral died within a WEEK. A few months ago, with proper dosing in place and figured out, I was able to acquire a new frag of the same species and I am ridiculously happy to say that my new faviites coral is the prettiest coral in my tank and is healthy!!!❤❤❤🪸🎉
