Dealing with death can be challenging for people providing palliative care. But these volunteers and healthcare workers tell CNA why it is a fulfilling job, what inspired them and how they cope with sadness. “It is a privilege to be able to be there during someone’s final moments ensuring that they are comfortable and not in distress,” said a nurse at Alexandra Hospital. Wonderful people are doing wonderful work. I am a full time care giver myself. it's really not easy to keep a sober mind and not be emotional to witness the passing of patients. Very laudable effort indeed. Thank you very much for all the hard work.

Actually. I feel like this is just a very small representation of palliative care. Assisi’s charges are only for those who can afford a very high luxury cost. The beds and rooms are very limited and my experience of it with my dad was very much that they just went through the motions of their job. They were tired and emotionless. Maybe this wasn’t everybody’s experience, but it was our family’s. The counselor was amazing. And a few people here and there. But more has to be done in the offering of affordable palliative care. There is so little choice and the cost can be delibitating. Some patients have no choice because their pain cannot be managed at home and mobility is a huge factor. So many cases fall through the cracks. Home nurse support and visitations are also in the thousands a month. Also not practical for the normal Singaporean. I applaud these people who willingly enter this part of nursing care and aide from the bottom of my heart. It is truly not easy

Death is the easiest part something less than the whole (soul, spirit and body). But dying is the hardest where your soul and spirit enters into another realm. Nevertheless, death is only the beginning of life in eternity. On the contrary it is honorable to serve and care for those living their last moment on earth something not everyone will willing to sacrifice their time to undertake. Myself was one of those but the real argument is...? Are we promoting the ones who are serving or are we suppose to give the dying true salvation after death...? It is without question that there is abounding compassionate individuals who can unconditionally care for others before their last breath. But are they prepared to lead the dying the next breath for eternity after its last on earth...? Death is coming for all of us but are you ready for the next life where death cannot hurt you. In other words, no one dies in the other realm be it the lake of fire where you will be constantly in sufferings or the place where the children of God dwell. To care for your well being before death and to care where you'd be going after death are two different argument.

The pay of all these occupation is unable to cope with the cost of living now Not only that, the PAP sets SPass and EP salary at way too low a min for all these foreigners to come in to grab the jobs from locals. Boss do not need to even pay these kind of FT workers CPF. And for EP there is no levy or quota.

isn’t the root cause of the problem the low pay of nurses, contrary to what Mr Louis Ng is suggesting? Nurses are crucial frontline workers who work tirelessly to care for patients, and they should be adequately compensated for their hard work and dedication. When nurses are overworked and underpaid, they may become demotivated and eventually leave the profession. This would only exacerbate the problem of understaffing and lead to a vicious cycle of overworked nurses and a shortage of manpower. To attract and retain nurses, it is essential to offer them fair compensation and benefits. The phased increases of 5% to 14% in nurse’s base salaries over 2021 and 2022 announced by the government is a step in the right direction. However, more needs to be done to ensure that nurses are adequately compensated.
