MEETING THE LOCALS. Home-stay in Kuang Si - Laos

In this episode we are still around Luang Prabang.
We arrive at the village of Kuang SI, famous for the impresives Kuang Si Waterfalls.
We stay at Fasay Garden, a home-stay, where we live with a local family. We help our host teach English to local kids, we visit the local school, go swimming in the waterfalls, cook rice and more.
We, also, visit the famous Kuang Si waterfalls, the river sources and the Sun Bear sanctuary.
To finish the activity, we visit The Living Land farm to learn the 13 steps of rice cultivation.

Please think about the implications of encouraging physical contact between the Laos kids and westerners. It’s clear you had great intentions but from a safeguarding point of view it’s not a good idea. As an English teacher and trainer I volunteered last year at a school in Luang Prabang and was alarmed at how this seemed to be common although it’s not in their culture and can be open to abuse. A fantastic experience for your kids, lovely to see.

Are you referring as abuse from the westerners? Because after meeting them, they seem to have clear their objectives. These kids parents, grandparents.... Are subsistence farmers. The kids in this village want to learn English to work in the growing tourism industry and have a more stable income stream. This will allow them to give their kids a better life and education. Yes, their culture will change, but they also will have more access to food, health and education.

Those were some wise words, you've said, at the end of your video. You can either keeping going, or you can find excuses, not to. The World doesn't ow you anything. So true. I loved my visits to Laos, and I'm looking forward to bringing my wife and kids there again. Beautiful country, wonderful people.

Thank you! Unfortunately not everyone agrees. Laos was great with the kids, they made friends very easy and we're always playing football (soccer) with them. So truly recommend it
