There are often parked cars or other obstructions in a drivers way when driving in urban areas - and these are usually fairly easy to deal with.
However you will occasionally find streets with cars parked on both sides - only leaving enough space for 1 car in the centre of the road.
Unless you are in a 1-way street, you may find yourself meeting oncoming traffic in the middle of the road with no room to squeeze past each other - this video will show you how to handle this situation.

I was in a street like this yesterday and let me tell you, one of the worse driving experiences of my life, as there was line of cars in traffic on incoming traffic and I had to weave over 40 cars and wait to have enough room to pass, took me like 20 minutes to get out of there plus the fear of scratching the cars right next to me that were stuck there 😖

I live on a very busy side road in London. Often there are very few or very tight spaces. What do you do if you can't see any appropriate spaces to pull in to?
@AdvanceDrivingSchool

One car will have to reverse back to the nearest passing place. It rarely comes to that though, if you start looking for a place as soon as you see the other vehicle.

If we pull up car to let other car go than do we need check mirror before go further ??
@AdvanceDrivingSchool
@AdvanceDrivingSchool 6 жыл бұрын
Yes - a mirror check whilst we're waiting is a good idea. If anyone behind us misunderstands what we are doing, and thinks we have parked then they might try and drive past us - just as we pull away. Spotting this in our mirrors could prevent an accident!

+end times Then we should pull into a gap instead - even if it means reversing! Most drivers are considerate, and whoever has the best gap usually pulls in to let the other person past.

There’s a number of round abouts in my test area where the left lane on exit is filled with parked cars… I only know this as I’m familiar with the area - on the test day should i stick to approach in left lane or can I go into the right lane (where I usually wouldn’t) to avoid having to stop behind parked cars waiting for someone to let me in right after a round about

If I pull into a gap and am waiting for a car I usually leave right indicator on so cars behind definitely know I'm waiting and will be pulling out (provided no turning to the right which could confuse) . Amount of times people near me will go past and meet the car I was waiting for and have to reverse back behind me is comical. Is this correct practice? I heard from a friend who just took their test that you are not required to signal to pull back out even if there are cars behind?
@AdvanceDrivingSchool
@AdvanceDrivingSchool 6 жыл бұрын
The use of an indicator in this situation is optional, but we would definitely use it if we need to stop and there is following traffic. On the other hand if there is no oncoming traffic and we can keep rolling we wouldn’t indicate usually. Just do it when needed 👍🏼

@@truckermark2946 It sounds like a tricky situation, but without being there it's impossible to say what you should have done. Perhaps the examiner spotted the car before you committed to passing the parked cars and failed you for not stopping? Perhaps he expected you to reverse back to a passing place? Did he explain further at the end of the test?
