Amber is the second single taken off my PARTICLES EP project on VISION, and it marks the first release of Ash and I as a team. Its minimal, yet maximal approach translates into a spacious, but at the same time, very dense collaboration. Sharing studiotime with a friend is always a pleasure!- Martin

Your music mixing/mastering is beyond human. What's on master, how do you compress saws/wobbles or eq, what plugins do u use? Thats what the most curious questions for me. Your music sometimes has just kick, snare and bass, nothing more, but it sounds so fat and complete, what is the secret? Compression? Drones? However, thank you so much for sharing your expirience with us! Hope to see more videos from you Martin. Can you give us a few free samples in Serum, or just "Mefjus tutorial on Serum"? ;)

So what I guess he said is that he is basically layering the basses so that it sounds more fuller and fatter if that makes sense?

Thank you so much for doing this! These videos are very helpful and inspiring :D I have one workflow tipp for you in return: You can trigger up to 5 instruments from one midi track (not from an instrument track!) in Cubase by using the "midi sends". That way you can layer sounds using up to 5 synths without copying midi events ;)

How do you deal with the lack of phase reset on serum’s sub oscillator?
@Hopkins132

Hey man I don't really understand at 3:25, you're showing OSC A and B in Serum which are both Sine waves but what's actually playing sounds layered with a real drum? Could you explain how you do your kicks there?
@John-yv2xh
@John-yv2xh 4 жыл бұрын
The sine waves are being controlled by envelopes. One OSC has a fast envelope to make the transient, the other has a slower envelope to make the body of the kick. If you're interested, look up drum synthesis. The synthesized sound is layered with a sample to add a more natural sound. Hope this helps :)
@Hopkins132
@Hopkins132 4 жыл бұрын
@@John-yv2xh thanks but i dont think that's what it is though. I know pitching a sine wave down really fast makes a kick and you can mess with the envelope, pitch, adsr, etc., to make a different sounding kick. However it literally sounds like a real drum being layered. I think he didnt solo the serum in those parts because you cant get a sound like that with only a sine wave.
@John-yv2xh
@John-yv2xh 4 жыл бұрын
@@Hopkins132 Yeah, he didn't solo the serum patch. He's layering it with a real kick to give the real kick more punch.

Your voice was WAY too loud in comparison to the track, and over-compressed at that. I could barely hear the track, and when I could, I was constantly distracted by your voice constantly hissing
@Mefjus
@Mefjus 4 жыл бұрын
Thx for your comment! I have to add tho, that this studio insights are made under the assumption that the listener has checked out the music beforehand. Hence we made the conscious decision to not have the music in the foreground, but the voice over. If you want to listen to the track without me rambling on pls follow the links in the description. And a minor addition to your comment about the quality of the voice recording: Yes, the vocal is well over compressed. I was aiming for quite the presence - radio-esque-compression, again to make it quite understandable. I did check the quality of the vocal, with quite the focus on de-essing and EQing on my studio speakers, and a MacBook Pro, where it sounded nice. If you've listened to this on your phone maybe try and check it out on actual speakers. Some phones tend to be not quite beneficial to audio quality on high volumes :) Big up, Martin
