If you core the cabbages and freeze the entire head for 5 hours or so, you can take them out of freezer, thaw them and then peel off the leaves. You won’t need to precook them and they will peel,off and be flexible, saving you a step. 💕

Please explain a little further. Why would freezing them and thawing them back to room temp make them more flexible than if you didn’t freeze them? Does the freezing process do some thing?

I was taught in Home Ec to always crack my eggs into a dish before putting it in my recipe. Of course my Home Ec days were over 50 years ago and I would guess even the store bought eggs could have been questionable 😂😂😂😂. I still do it to this day. Old habits are hard to break
@virginiamesko6369
@virginiamesko6369 Жыл бұрын
The reasons for not cracking an egg directly into what you are cooking, is so you can catch any bits of shell or blood spots that might be in the eggs. If you have added a blooded egg into a cake mix, for instance, you will have ruined the entire mix. If you check it on the side you can just pitch the egg out and your mix is still usable.

My Italian grandma taught me how to make almost all the Italian recipes i know….instead of meat sauce she would use a marinara sauce and make teeny tiny meatballs to layer in the lasagna…. She would get all the small kids with their tiny hands to make tons for the lasagna and that’s how I still do it today!

In my experience not cooking the lasagna noodles first works even better when you make a freezer meal. The noodles get to spend more time with the sauce. Meld and get friendly. So yummy. My mother and I have been making our lasagnas like that - without cooking the noodles first since she started cooking for her new husband in the '70s - it has always worked fine. Merry Christmas!!

This will go down extremely well with my family and in the not too distant future my husband and I are going to stay a few days with my son and ‘bonus daughter’. My big 48yr old, Padre RAF, has recently been diagnosed as gluten intolerant so when I’m being Mama in his house I’m goin to do that cabbage lasagna. My son is a good cook, makes his own gluten free bread and he will enjoy a bit of cooking with me:). He can steer me in the right direction re his gluten free journey. Thanks for another interesting Mega Mama cooking extravaganza 🎉🥰.

I was nervous trying the dry noodles but it works great. I make little individual freezer meals to have for grab and go nights or if I'm away my partner has easy meals. I don't buy the oven ready ones either. Just regular noodles, layer them up and freeze them until it's time to use. They work out great and it's one less step.

I love the ricotta cheese, mushrooms or spinach variety. Mom made the cottage cheese with mushrooms and spinach variety. I learned to make the spaghetti squash variety too instead of noodles I layer it with spaghetti squash the same as top. Merry Christmas to you and your family.

Hello and thank you for all the mega cooking. I make egg plant noodles. It's by slicing egg plant super thin. Adding olive oil and salt to them and then using them as noodles. None of my 6 kids even knew they were eating them. 12 years ago I had a friend gift us 2 cases of egg plant. And what a blessing. I made it with regular sauce, cheese and meat and I had no left overs. Now it's a traditional Christmas eve favorite. Maybe slice and dehydrate them... that sounds amazing!
