Seems like my story in Portugal. Bought the mega drive and the first 3 games i had were thunderforce 3, golden axe and insector x...and not too long after i rented GnG. I assume at many places in 91 or 1992 those were the most available titles

But's suffer from slowdowns and less enemies on Screen. The major chalenge was jump on platforms. It lacked the action from Ghouls And Ghosts.

Agreed. Supergrafx might've had the better presentation, but I think the Genesis version is still the best version (not including the arcade original)

If you take another weapon on that second loop, you are forced to do the second to last level over and over till you acquire it again.

The NES game was a port of the arcade game of the same name, and the NES version was made by a third-rate developer that made shitty ports. Of course this is better than the NES game

And that made this game the easiest in the series, a series not known for being friendly to unskilled players.

Lay off the crackpipe, the X68000 version is basically arcade code, as arcades at the time operated off the same guts found in the X68K version. The X68K version stood at the top of the mountain for home consoles, the rest were way down the mountain, staring in awe at the X68K version's triumph.

+daminmancejin It was to give the game some length, otherwise the experience may have been over too fast with just one loop. Every game in this series, made you play through twice to beat it.

Super Ghoul's 'n Ghosts is a different game and I agree it's easier.

In my opinion Super Ghouls'n Ghosts is slightly harder.

+Schwarzer Ritter This game is considered the easiest in the series. First game is the hardest, SNES version is second hardest. Gokumakaimura Kai on the PSP (aka revision 2 of Ultimate GnG, without all the fetch quest stuff, plays like a traditional GnG title) is pretty stiff in difficulty as well, especially loop 2. Goku Kai really has frustrated me the times I've played it on my PSP.

You do realize that this is a 1989 game ? It is one of the earliest MegaDrive title. This game was a great port back then. Altered Beast and Golden Axe were also very early games. Of course, they cannot compare with the games that came in 1991 and afterwards on the same console.

Each of those early ports were created in month or less so, with very small teams and budget. As result all of them are not only far from arcade perfect, but also looks and sounds weak even compare to some average titles on the system, let alone latest ones. Note that I've already wrote that I do not consider them bad or mediocre. But great? Yeah, no - none of them are great, sorry. Barely "ok', maybe. Both Sega and Capcom could have do a better job back then, it's a fact. It would have cost them more, of course it would! Yes, they would have to delay them, maybe more than on year or two in order to utilize bigger roms and then produce a bigger cartridges with cheaper prices(compare to those in 89). Yeah. So what? Was it possible? Yes, it was. But they've decided to make a quick buck instead. And I don't like the results.

Dastan Bastan I only have one disagreement with what you've said. Capcom actually did not make the Mega Driver version. On the title screen, it says the game was reprogrammed by Sega, so Sega made this version. I'm sure if Capcom made it themselves, it would have been even better

Damn it, thanks for the correction, I've totally miss it. But I'm not sure that even they would do it justice. Remember, Capcom(and all others devs, honestly) obviously didn't had that much of experience with the Genesis hardware back then and there were still a cartridge size issue, so I dunno, man. For them it would be too expensive to develop this close to arcade port so early in the Genesis lifespan and for us it would be way too expensive to buy it, lol. Maybe if they delayed the production to 1992 or 1993? But It's all a wishful thinking, really. The point is, that because of their decision to cheap out on us, we've never got a truly definitive versions of those games that I've mentioned. I guess you could still argue, that Genesis version simply can't have so many colors compare to arcade originals and also would be limited in the number of sprites which could be rendered on the screen in the same time, yes. Hell, even additional loading times might be necessary, who knows. But other than that, at least Golden Axe 1, Altered Beast, Captain America, this game and other similar true 16 arcade projects actually could have be very close to arcade originals, a lot closer than they did in reality. Now, the gigantic 32 bit monsters like WWF WrestleMania: The Arcade Game is a completely different story. Those types of arcade game is just doomed to be butchered...and well, they were, kind of.

Yeah mid range 16 bit arcade systems could get good ports on the Genesis. However, the mid high to high end 16 bit arcade systems ( like Namco System 2, Sega X Board) as well as 32 bit boards from the 90's usually got ports that could be ok to being very compromised like the Outrunners port. It's too bad that some of the arcade stuff of the early 90's never got any accurate home ports. Part of the problem is time and money, since these ports got thrown out within a year of arcade release, and part of it is that Genesis doesn't have the hardware ability to recreate certain aspects of the arcade game ( especially if there's any sprite scaling involved).
