That title goes to Knight Man Stage, Yamato Man Stage, Wily Machine 6 or Mr. X Stage for me personally. 6's soundtrack as a whole is really great.

While I may crack jokes on MM6 for it being super easy among the rest of the NES era games, it's actually really underrated, especially the soundtrack.

Maverick: Flame Aardvark Weapon: Flame thrower, slash Stage: Gas refinery Description: Flame Aardvark is an aardvark-based reploid of the Maverick Hunters’ 4th Land Unit. He is depicted as being polite and friendly to everyone including X and Zero. Despite his polite ways, Aardvark lacks common sense such as using aggressive tactics when dealing with tough situations or disregarding his commander’s orders and neglecting his assigned duties. During the maverick insurrection, Aardvark was tasked in investigating Sigma’s whereabouts. Only to be approached by Sigma who offered him to join his rebellion. Thinking that he can infiltrate among Sigma’s ranks as a double agent for the hunters, he reluctantly joins. He finds himself guarding the gas refinery that Sigma plans to use as a valuable resource, only to wander off unsupervised. (Boss encounter) X: Flame Aardvark?! What are you doing here? Flame Aardvark: Oh, hi X. Anyways, how are you doing? X: How am I doing? Look around, Aardvark. The mavericks have taken over this refinery! Flame Aardvark: I know, X. I will use force if you keep agitating me with your questions…! X: Flame Aardvark! Flame Aardvark: Just stop it, X! Stop making me nervous! I’m equipped with a flamethrower, you know! Just, don’t…!
