Mega Man X4 100% (Zero) Speed Run in

This is a Real Time Attack (RTA) speed run of Mega Man X4 with a time of 43:07, the category being 100% with Zero (all heart tanks, ex tank,e-tanks). Timing begins upon selecting Zero in the character select, and ends upon loss of character control (in this case, right when I move Zero to the right ledge before the final conversation with the General). This is on the gamecube X collection version.
This run was very good for me. I can get sub-43 though, and I'm probably done with this category.

Remeber 10 years ago, I played this game almost everyday on my PC... I could kill the Peacock boss without using Fire blade. But it was quite hard to do that.

On Storm Owl's miniboss, are the spiral aerial attacks faster than Ryuenjin? Because I seem to remember Ryuenjin doing an incredibly large amount of damage incredibly quickly (it has been awhile though).

Hi Kirby Mastah, I love your speedrun. I'm trying to learn Zero's speed run 100% and I almost have the hyper dash down. I know I have the speed, but idk if I'm pressing one button too fast because I don't seem to be dealing as much damage as you that quickly. Any tips?

it's a rhythm thing. You need to have the saber out long enough so it hits, before canceling it with the dash. Cancel the dash as early as possible with the saber. It takes a chunk of time to figure out the rhythm.

I remember this game from 6th grade. I brought the instruction manual to read during SSR (sustained silent reading)... I never could beat it with zero, even as I got older. Did you spam the shit out of your sabre? I had no idea zero did so much damage..

Saber Dash Cancelling (SDC) The first slash of the saber doesn't trigger any invincibility on the boss, so, by cancelling the entire animation using the dash and attacking again (preferably before you start moving with the dash) you can do CRAZY AMOUNTS OF DAMAGE on a short period of time Hope this answers your question if no one ever responded to you, wherever you're Peace!

Good job mate, I have a question to ask here, did you use the turbo pad to play this game? I ask this because it seems your dash cancelling slash has been done rediculously fast!

turbo controllers are generally banned, and if i did use one, I'd be clear that I used one in the info. Turbo controls wouldn't help anyways since SDCing requires rhythmically alternating between slash and dashing.

Ah cool enough. I have done some practice after having watched your video. I can now do the dash cancelling after either the first an the second slash although not as fast as you did. I have no idea which one is better because I havent had much chance to try them out against the bosses.

anmol monde zero combo has 3 hit Second and third hit will put boss into But first one doesn't So if you use dash and attack and spam it The result will be the same

I play X collection on ps2 when getting the heart in magma dragoon stage I play it safe and iceless jump to get the heart instead of going for the pixel perfect backwards jump after dodging the mech suits slash. He always seems to attack me when I go for that strategy which I've NEVER gotten btw because when you miss the jump and go to try again, molten fire balls rain from the sky! Making the rest of the stage quite impossible to continue running..

...The backwards jump isn't anywhere near pixel perfect lol, the iceless wall jump is a lot harder but technically faster. There's a reason I didn't do the "iceless" jump.

+Kirby Mastah I've seen multuple tas runs doing either or. I recall sneaks doing the "iceless" jump at an sgdq although it still took him 3 to 4 trys to get the jump, now that I think about it I've seen him do both. So hey about how long did it take you to get good at running X4? (: I've had this game since I was 7 and I'm 24 now but only started running it seriously about a month ago. My best time is a very sloppy 55:43! Granted I still die about five times throughout the game

There's no auto trigger for this man, he just taps dash (or forward twice) and attacks really fast, if you wanna have a proof of that just see caleb hart doing it, it's possible

In the final Sigma fight, do you just hope for good RNG that the ugly head blows air instead of sucks stones? Or is there some trigger you can do to make him always blow air instead?

I can't say this for sure, but I think it depends on your position. If you're closer to him, he'll generally suck stones, if you're closer to the wall, he'll blow air.

+NetBattles MexiKen The first slash does damage for every frame it's in general, so you want to leave the first slash out, wait a bit to not trigger the second, then repeat

i know this is old, but after doing one slash, quickly do a dash and repeat. do this quickly and repeat tons of times and you can do fast slashes

What's the benefit of doing Peacock's level before Mushroom? In my experience, Peacock's level is MUCH faster after you get the power to jumpslash those yellow bulbs.

Jehsee Andorfsen It's not much faster. Also your default air slash does 3 damage on cyber peacock. After you get it "upgarded" from split mushroom, it does 2 damage on cyber peacock, so cyber peacock's fight is significantly slower.

Furudo Erika I took damage from a nearby robot and still have invincibility the very top tip of the wall with spikes does NOT have any spikes either so I can touch that top tip after the invincibility wears off.

SDC (saber dash cancel) u just have to press attk and dash multiple times... its easy to do and hard to master... don't press the buttons at the same time

Black Zero is a purely cosmetic change (e.g. doesn't change anything in gameplay) and is only accessible through a code in the title screen so it's unobtainable. It would be included in the 100% definition of MMX5 though.

Black Zero has no gameplay differences in X4. You're mixing it up with black Zero in X5 and X6 where there are actualy gameplay differences.
