I have two pensions. I would much rather have had a Roth 401k throughout my working lifetime. $500/month invested from 25 - 65 at 9% is $2.3mil. I have $100k that i like to invest in a non-retirement account, Where would you invest this as of now?

I would avoid the index funds, mutual funds, or specific stocks for the time being. 5% fixed incomes are the safest bet for now. Save your cash for when the market actually shows signs of recovery.

I'm 54 and my wife and I are VERY worried about our future, gas and food prices rising daily. We have had our savings dwindle with the cost of living into the stratosphere, and we are finding it impossible to replace them. We can get by, but can't seem to get ahead. My condolences to anyone retiring in this crisis, 30 years nonstop just for a crooked system to take all you worked for...

Investing in Roth IRA can be a good choice since they are funded with after tax dollars, your contributions can grow tax-free over time. Becoming a millionaire through a Roth IRA or a 401(k) involves different strategies for maximizing profits. A Roth IRA offers tax-free withdrawals in retirement, which can be advantageous if you expect to be in a higher tax bracket later in life. On the other hand, a 401(k) provides tax-deferred growth and potential employer contributions, boosting your savings. The optimal choice depends on factors like your current and future tax situation, employer match, and investment options. Consulting a financial advisor can help tailor a strategy that aligns with your financial goals and circumstances.
@CindyValenti
@CindyValenti 6 ай бұрын
Prioritizing effective personal finance management holds greater significance than the sheer amount saved, irrespective of income source. Consulting a certified financial advisor can offer tailored strategies to optimize financial results by reducing expenses and enhancing income, regardless of whether it's earned through employment or investments.

I agree, that's the more reason I prefer my day to day investment decisions being guided by a investment-advisor, seeing that their entire skill set is built around going long and short at the same time both employing risk for its asymmetrical upside and laying off risk as a hedge against the inevitable downward turns, coupled with the exclusive information/analysis they have, it's near impossible to not out-perform, been using a investment-coach for over 2 years+ and I've netted over $900K.

Fortunately, I had a college economics teacher that taught me a lesson at 18. That lesson was: for every huge, frivoluos purchase you make, you need to have an investment double it's worth, this doesn't necessarily mean you should always invest when you make a purchase, it simply means living within your means. Varied sources of income is wise and especially like i said, living within your means. Whenever you're about to make a huge, dumb purchase that doesn't add value think about taxes and how you get your income. I made $272k combined net last year and paid no Federal taxes.

We love the Roth IRA! My brother in law who trades equities and options for a living had a sizeable IRA account that he opened up prior to marrying my sister. Back in 2010, Obama allowed ANYONE to do a conversion to a Roth IRA with no limitations, my B in Law did a Roth conversion and paid the max Fed rate at the time (35%) which had to come out of his regular taxable or savings acct and not his retirement acct and it has grown tax free ever since. He is limited to what he can trade inside the Roth when compared to a regular trading account. Although he wasn’t a fan of President Obama, he did praise him for allowing folks in his position to do the conversion. Back door IRA conversion that the OP is referencing is limited to what the contributions are while gains cannot be included in the conversion.

I also had some Pretax IRAs (Pretax means you deducted them on your taxes). Before you do any conversion of your After-Tax IRAs, you need to get rid of your pretax IRAs; otherwise, your Back door Roths will be partially taxable. One way to do this is ask your employer if they allow Rollover contributions to the 401K. I rolled my Pretax IRAs into my 401K, problem solved!

You'd better be making good six-figure money to take advantage of most of this. But max out your company 401k - do it as a Roth if you can - and also make the individual Roth on top of that - $6500 or $7500 depending on your age - and you're accumulating $30k+ per year just doing that. And that ain't beanbag, as Jack would say. It helps if you have extra money lying around. A lot.

When you are middle class, you try to do things on your own to “save money” but at the cost of time. My goal is to buy my time back, which I noticed is a common theme among more finally successful individuals.

It's recommended to save at least 15% of your income in a 401k. You can use online calculators to estimate how much you should save based on your age and income. Saving at least 15% of your income in a 401(k) can help ensure that you have enough money to retire comfortably. By saving this much, you can take advantage of compound interest and potentially grow your retirement savings over time.

For every dollar she saves and invests I'll match her. If she tries, she could get $200k invested before she gets out of college. Then she'll be on her own after that. She could be sitting at close to $1 million invested by her early 30's. Be 10-15 years ahead of me in her wealth building.
